This takes place in the George Romero universe. In Night of the Living Dead (The 1968 original) he never used the word zombie, they were ghouls. Zombies, as we know them, don't exist in their horror litterateur. So "rules" like shoot the head, don't get bitten, no one is really dead until you drop them with a headshot, etc have to be learned. Man, just realized that that poor dog is stuck on an island of zombies, poor baby. Good thing it's just a movie. Also, the two main stars at the very beginning, I was watching Friday the 13th: the Series, and I saw both of them on that show. Sarah Polley was a child in the show, a very creepy little girl. And Louis Ferreira, the guy who played her husband, he was also in an episode of that show. Not sure why they called that show that, since it has nothing to do with the Friday the 13th movies. Also, my feed is telling me to watch a video with the title "Why didn't the survivors STAY IN THE MALL?", but I don't think I'd stay. That crowd of zombies was getting bigger and bigger and bigger, it was only a matter of time before they'd get in. And their supplies weren't going to last forever, either. My question is, why didn't some of them stay, and some of them leave? If it was a bad idea to stay, then those people would be goners, and the rest of them would be okay, but if it was a bad idea to go (and the movie shows us it was a bad idea to go), then the people in the mall might have a chance to survive. I think if they left or stayed, either way they'd get zombie-fied. Why are so many zombie movies set in a mall, anyway? I'm sure it's some kind of a commentary on capitalism. Capitalism makes people hoards of zombies. Or something like that. Did you not watch until the end? It was pretty apparent that no one made it once they got to the island.
Good reaction Mary Cherry. Yes, both George A. Romero (the OG zombie film maker) and Kirkman have stated that the characters in most zombie films have never seen a zombie movie in their respective universes. Otherwise the viewer would be denied the fun of seeing them make mistakes.
I understand this isn't an MCU movie. But, on rare occasions credit scenes existed in other films. This is one of those movies that has them. You missed the end of the movie.

Ngl I prefer this over the more in-your-face tones of the original. Night of the Living Dead and it's remake are also my faves. The OG for its tone of zombie films to come (not counting White Zombie as I classify that as a different kind of zombie than the modern one) and the remake for the upgrade on Barbara while not being a massive departure from the OG
When the zombie craze was big this was def my fav up there with Shaun of the Dead. The opening to this movie really stayed with me. Best choice was the Johnny Cash song with the montage of zombie chaos. This movie has a doom vibe throughout the whole thing and it is such a realistic take on people trying their best to survive in this situation. And I love the mall as a location to try to survive. 👍
Santa Clarita Diet is my fav movie or TV show about zombies. It is quite different from any Zombie thing I have ever seen. I just wish Netflix did not canceled it when they did.
@@Richardwho-vv5bh sure but Dawn of the Dead started the whole "fight zombies, secure a location, then some biker assholes come along and ruin it forcing you to leave" trope The Walking Dead did lol
7:10 I thought the very same thought 5 minutes ago and asked chatGPT, here is what it said; Some cast members from *Dawn of the Dead* (2004) had established careers before or continued working in films and TV afterward. Here's a look at some of the main actors and what else they were known for: 1. **Sarah Polley (Ana)** Before *Dawn of the Dead*, Sarah Polley was already known as an actress and director. She starred in films like *The Sweet Hereafter* (1997) and *Go* (1999). After *Dawn of the Dead*, she shifted more into directing, notably with *Away from Her* (2006), which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. 2. **Ving Rhames (Kenneth)** Ving Rhames was well-known before *Dawn of the Dead*, having played Marsellus Wallace in *Pulp Fiction* (1994) and starred in *Mission: Impossible* (1996). After *Dawn of the Dead*, he reprised his role as Luther Stickell in several *Mission: Impossible* sequels, including *Dead Reckoning Part One* (2023). 3. **Jake Weber (Michael)** Jake Weber had a steady career before *Dawn of the Dead*, with roles in films like *Meet Joe Black* (1998) and *U-571* (2000). Afterward, he became known for his role as Joe DuBois on the TV show *Medium* (2005-2011). He has since appeared in various other TV shows and films. 4. **Mekhi Phifer (Andre)** Before *Dawn of the Dead*, Mekhi Phifer was known for his roles in *8 Mile* (2002) and as Dr. Greg Pratt on *ER* (2002-2008). He continued acting in TV and films, including *Divergent* (2014) and its sequels. 5. **Ty Burrell (Steve)** After *Dawn of the Dead*, Ty Burrell became widely recognized for his role as Phil Dunphy on the TV series *Modern Family* (2009-2020), which made him a household name and earned him several Emmy Awards. 6. **Michael Kelly (CJ)** Michael Kelly had various supporting roles before *Dawn of the Dead*, but he gained more recognition afterward, particularly for his role as Doug Stamper in *House of Cards* (2013-2018). He has also appeared in films like *Changeling* (2008) and *Now You See Me* (2013). While some of the cast might not have been as prominent in leading roles before *Dawn of the Dead*, many went on to have significant careers, particularly in television.
I'm probably the only one that agree with cj as he my most favorite characters out of all of them and he was right the group let the people get bit in, the guy that have a Russian wife he did not tell the group about his wife being bit, the girl was not smart and let the zombie getting in the mall, Steve was never a good person and was going to leave everyone to die also cj is right sooner or later you let the wrong people in and they will take your stuff and let you die or kill you also it hard to trust people for example the walking dead show there is so many characters that will betray your trust and stab you in the back. I will stand by my decision and this is my personal opinion and respect everyone i don't want anyone hating on me just because i said all the facts
9:51 I like to think that this movie and shows like The Walking Dead that don't mention the word "zombie" is a world where that word/concept of zombies doesn't exist
the fast-moving Zombies in this film are scary but the Zombies from WWZ are more crafty when it comes to overcoming certain obstacles that are zombie proof
The word "Zombie" isn't often or ever used in Zombie films (e.g. The Walking Dead TV series, The Resident Evil film series). The idea is that in these film universes, there has never been a Zombie movie culture to learn from. Hence, the main characters are totally unfamiliar with common Zombie tropes or how to deal with them. So the viewers are often smarter than the film characters (e.g. "shoot them in the head!") BTW one of my favorite more recent Zombie series is the 8 episode 2 season, "Black Summer" series. A lot of good running zombie horror action scenes. There's one character whom you right away assume could never survive a Zombie apocalypse. He's the most ill-equipped survivor both physically and mentally that you will ever meet. But the series is mainly about a mother trying to find her young 9yo daughter during this apocalypse.
Standard Rule of the majority of Zombie Movies/shows. Walking Dead for example.. In those universes even though they are otherwise the same as ours the one thing that was never created was.. Zombies/Zombie movies etc.
Exactly what I was going to post. If people knew about zombies and how to deal with them (assuming their zombie movie lore worked in their real world), then it wouldn't be as likely to be such a widespread disaster. Folks would know to "aim for the head" and wipe them out quickly That's where these "fast zombies" become necessary for movies to overcome what would otherwise be a simpler task in clearing out the traditional Romero zombies.
I heard at the beginning that there is a gaming channel. I also took note of the zombies are slow comment. This made me remember a game series i haven't played in years. Its the Left 4 Dead games. They are, of course, zombie games. The reason I thought of them specifically is that the zombies in those games are not slow. They can run, making them more dangerous that your average zombie.
Now watch the even better original "Dawn of the dead" and compare them! And the original and best zombie movie that started it all..."Night of the living dead" 1968.
Great zombie film with Ving Rhames and Sarah Polley, I know her from a show filmed in Canada called Road To Avonlea, really good one from my teenage years in the 90's. Nice reaction Mary. Evil Dead (2013) and Evil Dead Rise (2023) should be on your watch list.
Hey Mary, one thing you did mention a few times was “have these people never seen a zombie movie?” Most zombie movies themselves don’t really contain the idea of “zombie movies” within them. Most likely the world built in these movies wouldn’t have given the characters any context to what a zombie is. So for the most part, this is there first time seeing anything like this, whether on screen or in real life.
I just wanted to say that I live in the United States and things are a little tense right now. Your relentless positivity is super infectious and I really appreciate your work! Thank you!
Modern Family's Ty Burrell played Steve on Dawn of the Dead (2004). Ving Rhames is the black cop. The first movie I remember watching Ving Rhames in 'Pulp Fiction"(1994) a;though he had been acting since 'Go Tell It on the Mountain (1985). Ving, also , starred in the zombie movies "Day of the Dead'(2008) and Zombie Apocalypse (2011). It safe to say Ving like zombie movies.
This was Zacks first movie he directed and you didnt watch the end credits there are screnes during the credits that basically show the survivors make it to a island after the boat runs out of gas and as soon as that dock and go on land tbe dead starts coming out from everywhere and basically gives you the feeling they all die
If you're interested in watching more horror/ zombie movies you should check out the original Dawn of the Dead from 1978.🧟♂️ That movie along with Day of the Dead (1985) and The Return of the Living Dead (1985) are the top 3 greatest Zombie movies of all time in my opinion.🧟♀️
Also Mary Cherry, the character who shot Norma was in shock and denial because he had just lost his wife or child. He was possibly temporarily insane due to grief and not necessarily a "bad person."
There's some after credits scene to this movie. I thought the same, i feel like the guy in the gun shop should have cleared the hoard when it was more manageable and transferred the bullets and hardware over and stayed in the mall, but i guess we had to have drama for the movies stakes to be higher.
I hadn't thought about it until now, but in the original film they parked Semi-Trucks with trailers in front of every entrance so they couldn't swarm the safety glass and break in. In this movie that problem would be even worse, these speed freak zombies go full force at all times. They should have an even easier time breaking through safety glass than the original slow shufflers , even without that extra level of protection. Those entrances shouldn't have held at all. Also, if you haven't seen the original it's very worth a watch. Less action-y than the remake, but imo much better protagonists.
Just began watching the react, but at this point, zombies just started and like Walking Dead, the zombie rules etc dont exist yet. Thats why they show the sheriff saying you have to dome them to take them out.
sadly, still the best snyder movie, way before he lost his talent as a decent director and his cult make him believe that he is the greatest of all time.
I must say, I like this version better than the original, way more intense, more action and terror. Because scary movies are out of your comfort zone that's what makes them so good. Your gorgeous Mary,so hot, and you carry it well, you go sister
Yeah they needed to get to Andy and re-up on weaponry and ammo but I would have went back to the mall that seemed like a great place to fortify and survive in

It's about time you've reacted to this. I consider this one of the best zombie movies so far. Absolute classic.
The 1978 original Dawn of the Dead is even better
Speaking of Zombies, I recommend 28 Days Later (Cillian Murphy), 28 Weeks Later (Jeremy Renner) & Zombieland Double Tap 😀.
Definitely, and just in time too for the long awaited 28 Years Later!
The first one, yes, but not the sequel don't torment her
The creatures in 28 days later and it's sequel aren't zombies.
All excellent recommendations!👍👍 I'd also add the Netflix series "Kingdom" and its spinoff "Ashin of the North".
@@jtser8322 definitely Kingdom!
watch Army of the dead,. best Zombie movie
When is Planet of the Dead coming?
say no one ever, not even his brain dead hardcore snyder cultist fans. that movie is a insult to the zombie genre.
If your a regarded incel😂
It's an awful movie. Dawn of the dead stills top.
Dotd Remake Here is 10 times better as Army otD!
You gotta watch the after credits...will blow your mind
Good reaction Mary Cherry. Yes, both George A. Romero (the OG zombie film maker) and Kirkman have stated that the characters in most zombie films have never seen a zombie movie in their respective universes. Otherwise the viewer would be denied the fun of seeing them make mistakes.
"Zombies are so god damn slow!"
Wait until you've seen 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later
She already watched this one.
@@AshrafAnam 28 Days or Weeks?
And World War Z. 😱
@@RyanBromhead503 Those aren't Zombies in 28 series they're alive.
If they run, then they aren't zombie.
The reason this movie is so great is that it's pretty realistic. I can imagine that's exactly how people would react in that scenario.
I understand this isn't an MCU movie. But, on rare occasions credit scenes existed in other films. This is one of those movies that has them. You missed the end of the movie.
double tap is shit
Hey guys!! I’ve seen the mid credit scene now! Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Tbh though I already had a feeling they would have died when Anna said “it won’t be ok” in the end… which I spoke on in my outro. Check 00:32:40 :)
Good to have seen it now though. RIP to the crew.
New subscriber here, and possibly a new patreon member!!!
Dawn of the dead??!!
LEEEETTTTTSSS GOOOOOOOO!!!!
Return of the Living Dead ones are nice too. Dawn of the Dead was a really good pick.
The remake was pretty good but still prefer the original.
Another fantasticly amazing reaction Mary ❤❤😁😁.
28 Days Later is the best zombie movie. it started zombie movies back up.
Watch the original Dawn of the Dead since it started every single zombie trope you see now
actually that was nigth of the living dead by romero in 1968. the first modern zombie movie
@@Richardwho-vv5bh sure but Dawn of the Dead started the whole "fight zombies, secure a location, then some biker assholes come along and ruin it forcing you to leave" trope The Walking Dead did lol
7:10 I thought the very same thought 5 minutes ago and asked chatGPT, here is what it said;
Some cast members from *Dawn of the Dead* (2004) had established careers before or continued working in films and TV afterward. Here's a look at some of the main actors and what else they were known for:
1. **Sarah Polley (Ana)**
Before *Dawn of the Dead*, Sarah Polley was already known as an actress and director. She starred in films like *The Sweet Hereafter* (1997) and *Go* (1999). After *Dawn of the Dead*, she shifted more into directing, notably with *Away from Her* (2006), which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
2. **Ving Rhames (Kenneth)**
Ving Rhames was well-known before *Dawn of the Dead*, having played Marsellus Wallace in *Pulp Fiction* (1994) and starred in *Mission: Impossible* (1996). After *Dawn of the Dead*, he reprised his role as Luther Stickell in several *Mission: Impossible* sequels, including *Dead Reckoning Part One* (2023).
3. **Jake Weber (Michael)**
Jake Weber had a steady career before *Dawn of the Dead*, with roles in films like *Meet Joe Black* (1998) and *U-571* (2000). Afterward, he became known for his role as Joe DuBois on the TV show *Medium* (2005-2011). He has since appeared in various other TV shows and films.
4. **Mekhi Phifer (Andre)**
Before *Dawn of the Dead*, Mekhi Phifer was known for his roles in *8 Mile* (2002) and as Dr. Greg Pratt on *ER* (2002-2008). He continued acting in TV and films, including *Divergent* (2014) and its sequels.
5. **Ty Burrell (Steve)**
After *Dawn of the Dead*, Ty Burrell became widely recognized for his role as Phil Dunphy on the TV series *Modern Family* (2009-2020), which made him a household name and earned him several Emmy Awards.
6. **Michael Kelly (CJ)**
Michael Kelly had various supporting roles before *Dawn of the Dead*, but he gained more recognition afterward, particularly for his role as Doug Stamper in *House of Cards* (2013-2018). He has also appeared in films like *Changeling* (2008) and *Now You See Me* (2013).
While some of the cast might not have been as prominent in leading roles before *Dawn of the Dead*, many went on to have significant careers, particularly in television.
Oh Snap!!!! Mary, you’re a real one. Glad you enjoyed it
You have no doubt heard hundreds of times by now that this is a remake. The original is worth a watch, but this version is my fav!
9:51
I like to think that this movie and shows like The Walking Dead that don't mention the word "zombie" is a world where that word/concept of zombies doesn't exist
This movie is perfect. From start to finish. Best zombie movie hands down.
No it's not the original is superior
the fast-moving Zombies in this film are scary but the Zombies from WWZ are more crafty when it comes to overcoming certain obstacles that are zombie proof
You should watch a Movie Called War Horse
I actually got this movie on my DVD Dawn of the dead 💀 ❤
The word "Zombie" isn't often or ever used in Zombie films (e.g. The Walking Dead TV series, The Resident Evil film series). The idea is that in these film universes, there has never been a Zombie movie culture to learn from. Hence, the main characters are totally unfamiliar with common Zombie tropes or how to deal with them. So the viewers are often smarter than the film characters (e.g. "shoot them in the head!")
BTW one of my favorite more recent Zombie series is the 8 episode 2 season, "Black Summer" series.
Mary, the main actress, Sarah Polley, was in another movie you should check out called, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.
I think this one’s better and liking the original better is a bit of hipsterism. This one has better effects, acting and characters.
Great reaction, Mary! Btw, the cop is Ving Rhames. He was in Pulp Fiction and the Mission Impossible movies.
The Mall Guard leader is my favorite character in this movie, he isn't bad, he was just being logical in the situation.
Dawn of the Dead is a great zombie flick. The Lost Boys (1987) is a great flick as well, and the protagonists may or may not also have a great chance.
The Dead Rising series was inspired by this movie. The game took place in a mall infested by the undead
To be specific, it was inspired by the original, not by this one
Every movie and series (the Walking Dead) in the 2000/10s was inspired by dotd! It startet a new Zombie Wave since the 70s
It was inspired by the '78 one but sure
Did you know marry cant show guns :'D
Hey Mary, one thing you did mention a few times was “have these people never seen a zombie movie?” Most zombie movies themselves don’t really contain the idea of “zombie movies” within them. Most likely the world built in these movies wouldn’t have given the characters any context to what a zombie is. So for the most part, this is there first time seeing anything like this, whether on screen or in real life.
I just wanted to say that I live in the United States and things are a little tense right now. Your relentless positivity is super infectious and I really appreciate your work! Thank you!
Fun Fact 3: the mid credits footage was basically a re-shoot 3 weeks later.
Nothing fun about that.
But stalking is?
@@nilesstark Don't flatter yourself.
@@Jutrzen You do that for me.
@@nilesstark Whatever.
I love this movie. The Tucker and CJ coop was super solid!
Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Best Zombie Movie Ever
A good remake of a classic film
8 out of 10 for me
The best zombie movie is from Lucio Fulci 1979. Zombie 2 Flesh Eaters. Thats still the best to this day & freaked me out😮
If you have the time you should check out the extra footage so you can learn more about Andy the gun shop owner and also the news broadcast 🎉
Saw this in the movie theater, the intro sent the place absolutely wild 🙏
CJ redeemed himself CJ IS THE GOAT!!!!! How dare you say he’s your least favorite.
The DVD extras scenes are on TH-cam and they are amazing.
This was Zacks first movie he directed and you didnt watch the end credits there are screnes during the credits that basically show the survivors make it to a island after the boat runs out of gas and as soon as that dock and go on land tbe dead starts coming out from everywhere and basically gives you the feeling they all die
You have to admit though: CJs character development was pretty well done
If you're interested in watching more horror/ zombie movies you should check out the original Dawn of the Dead from 1978.🧟♂️
That movie along with Day of the Dead (1985) and The Return of the Living Dead (1985) are the top 3 greatest Zombie movies of all time in my opinion.🧟♀️
Mary how long are you lasting during a zombie apocalypse?
Great remake
Also Mary Cherry, the character who shot Norma was in shock and denial because he had just lost his wife or child. He was possibly temporarily insane due to grief and not necessarily a "bad person."
Why do your blur the guns?
Because TH-cam doesn't like videos showing guns and will take a video down if they do
There's some after credits scene to this movie. I thought the same, i feel like the guy in the gun shop should have cleared the hoard when it was more manageable and transferred the bullets and hardware over and stayed in the mall, but i guess we had to have drama for the movies stakes to be higher.
Good zombie film Mary!
The song in the end credits is 🔥🔥🔥
I hadn't thought about it until now, but in the original film they parked Semi-Trucks with trailers in front of every entrance so they couldn't swarm the safety glass and break in.
The Officer, Kenneth and The last guy, Michael remind me of Coach and Nick from the "Left 4 Dead 2" X Box 360 game
Cjs character arc is so good love it
Just began watching the react, but at this point, zombies just started and like Walking Dead, the zombie rules etc dont exist yet. Thats why they show the sheriff saying you have to dome them to take them out.
This was Zack Snyder's first movie and James Gunn's second Hollywood produced screenplay. His first being the 2003 Scooby-Doo movie.
sadly, still the best snyder movie, way before he lost his talent as a decent director and his cult make him believe that he is the greatest of all time.
I must say, I like this version better than the original, way more intense, more action and terror. Because scary movies are out of your comfort zone that's what makes them so good. Your gorgeous Mary,so hot, and you carry it well, you go sister
Yeah they needed to get to Andy and re-up on weaponry and ammo but I would have went back to the mall that seemed like a great place to fortify and survive in
You should also watch the FOUND FOOTAGE of the Gun Shop Owner.
I laughed when you said sekki as in short for security, you were either raised in Melbourne or Sydney lol
Good day, you watch this. But every creator that has recently watched this has not watched the original only watch the remake.I highly recommend you watch The original
Everything... is gonna be alright!
I didn't cry, so "Train to Busan" is still best zombi movie ever
Who cries on a zombie movie?
