I grew up with the OG disaster films like Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure, etc. yet I feel you may enjoy the more recent '2012' as it's spectacle is on full display. Older films tend to be slower with emphasis on characters within the events.
This movie came out 2 days after my dad had passed away. The whole family decided to go see a movie to try to forget about things for at least a few hours. When Bruce Willis sacrifices himself, and Ben Affleck is screaming "Harry I love you" my entire family broke down in tears I'm sure the whole theater though we were ovarly emotional My dads name was Harry❤ I still miss youx dad❤
"Armageddon" is one of those films that, despite its flaws, connects deeply on an emotional level. It's not just about saving the world; it's about the sacrifices we make for those we love. The father-daughter relationship between Harry and Grace is the heart of the film, bringing a genuine sense of humanity to the larger-than-life story. The film reminds us of the power of love, bravery, and selflessness, even in the face of impossible odds. It's a movie that, while action-packed, also touches the heart, leaving a lasting impression of the bonds that matter most.
@@unlimited971 The film takes significant liberties with science, particularly in its depiction of space travel, the nature of asteroids, and the idea of drilling into one to split it in half. For example, the idea that a group of oil drillers could be trained as astronauts in just a few days is highly implausible. The plot follows a very traditional disaster movie formula, with few surprises along the way. The heroic sacrifices, the countdown to disaster, and the inevitable triumph feel predictable, which might lessen the emotional impact for some viewers. These flaws don't necessarily diminish the film's entertainment value, but they do make it more of a guilty pleasure for those who enjoy its bombastic style. But despite these flaws, it's still an incredible film.
There is nothing plausible in this movie except that we have spacecraft and there are asteroids or comets that could wipe out the Earth. Regardless of time pressures there is no way a orbital space mission can be put together in 15 days from scratch, forget a translunar mission. The physics and science is horrible. That said it is good enough suspension of disbelief and an action packed rollercoaster ride of a popcorn flick. It hits that mark as that, 2 hours of good entertainment, which is what matters in a movie. For a more realistic but similar movie check out Deep Impact. The problem with both movies is I can hardly imagine society holding together in the face of near certain death. I would rather imagine once the knowledge became known to the public you would see law and order entirely break down, all services and utilities stopping, etc. would be the reality.
Those movies are both excellent. Mary, I hope you're reading this and taking note. Almost no one has reacted to these movies. They're very entertaining and lots of fun.
Wilson was also in a 2015 civil disaster thriller film called "No Escape" where his character had to evacuate his family from a civil war torn Asian city.
Harry's care & love for AJ isn't just because he's engaged to his daughter, he's known AJ since he was a kid. It was mentioned earlier in the movie that Harry promised AJ's father that he would take care of him.
Liv's character (when Truman tells her she ought to leave) saying, "I have nowhere else to go." rips my heart out every time. Her entire world is up there! 💔
It's kind of silly though. And Mary saying her whole world/family is up there is too. The fact is if they don't succeed in space everyone on Earth AND space is dead.
If asteroids hitting Earth are your thing, it seems sensible that you should watch Deep Impact as well. The two movies came out at around the same, although I don't remember which was first. Fortunate, they had different stories, which made both films interesting.
There's a film called Volcano, which came out the same year as Dante's Peak. It's a little more outrageous than Dante's Peak, but it's still a good popcorn film.
I'm trying to remember who survives. Bill Fichtner, Ben Affleck, Buscemi & Stormare, Michael Clarke Duncan, the lady astronaut, Will Patton... and the fact I will never remember or care to remember their character's names tells you everything about Armageddon.
@@motorcycleboy9000 all it says is you have a bad memory. As this comment was about the survivors of one shuttle and not the movie, and that tells me your reading comprehension is pretty bad.
Bruce Willis and Michael Clarke Duncan were friends by the time this movie was being made, and Bruce convinced MCD to audition for The Green Mile. Volcano is a pretty solid Disaster movie along with Dante's Peak.

The theater erupted in laughter before the actors said the lines, because they were all reading the subtitles in Chinese.

If you want a disaster show, my favorite is 1994 The Stand, it is a mini series a man-made virus wipes out 99.4 of the population and what the survivors do.
One of the things I loved about that series was in the very beginning when they played "Don't Fear The Reaper" by B.O.C. It was such an appropriate song for the series opener.
Hi Marry, since you were talking about Bruce Willis a movie of his that I think would be a great watch for the channel would be Sixth Sense, which is one of his best acting roles in my opinion.
Thanks for the awesome reaction! Love this movie so much 💗 I’d recommend Deep Impact next. It has Elijah Wood in it and is similar to Armageddon but focuses more on what happens to the people on earth.
It’s an older movie but try On The Beach. Without giving the plot away, Australia is humanity’s last refuge. Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Anthony Perkins.
I read On the Beach many years ago. It was very thorough. The thing that struck me was how logical it was. By that, I mean, the decisions that the general population made, made a lot of sense to me.
The 2013 film, "These Final Hours" has Australia, or more specifically, Perth as Humanity's last refuge. It takes place 10 minutes after an Asteroid hits the Earth creating a huge unstoppable fire storm that slowly encircles the planet. The main plot is about an emotionally broken man trying to help a young girl get back to her father.
This movie is a pinnacle of 90's entertainment, from the cheesy dialogue, to the Michael Bay cliché over the top explosions and while still giving you a tear jerking scene at the end.
Love your reaction to this movie it's one of my favorites. For disaster movies here is a suggestion it's an older one Dante's Peak (1997). I thought it was pretty good I like to see what you think of it.
In the music video for the song for this movie, Aerosmith "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing", they include footage from the film, and they cut out Harry (Bruce Willis) from the shots where Liv Tyler is talking to him on screen and placed shots of her real father, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

Nothing wrong with plot armor when the ever troublesome situations that they escape from are equally impossible. It's almost impossible for characters to survive a certain circumstance. It's even more impossible that they'd face so many impossible situations.

Lots of different emotions in this one. Another disaster flick. If you didn't see it yet. The original Poseidon Adventure. An older film, you might recognize a few actors.
So many moments in this movie got me. Little Richard. The heart-to-heart between Grace and Harry on Pad 34 (if that place could talk...), the Independence going down and Harry's sacrifice, and the score...this movie may be arguably cheesy, but great cheesy.

This was my go to movie to watch on VHS when I was super sick as a kid.
In 1998, there were two disaster movies based on foreign objects on trajectory to earth. Armageddon and Deep Impact.
I saw this movie when it first came out in the theater and it is still one of my favorite movies to date. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride watching this in the theater! It was crazy, exciting and so much fun! I'll need to find time to sit and watch it again.
Lots of different emotions in this one.
Another disaster flick. If you didn't see it yet. The original Poseidon Adventure. An older film, you might recognize a few actors.
Nice reaction vid! You may also enjoy "The Day After Tomorrow"
So many moments in this movie got me. Little Richard. The heart-to-heart between Grace and Harry on Pad 34 (if that place could talk...), the Independence going down and Harry's sacrifice, and the score...this movie may be arguably cheesy, but great cheesy.
