No I don’t think so. I have a wife and a15 yr old. I have a 66 which I really like but had 44 for the past 5 yrs and it’s a great family machine. I have an insta gram account called heli.pics if you want to see them. The cabin in the 44 or 66 is definitely family friendly. Fly safe

Worked for Hughes Helicopters,Culver City, early 70s my office/hanger was on the flight line . Robert /Bob Ferry was one of the test pilots there . Had the opportunity to fly with him on test flight. I’m not a pilot , but the experience flying with Bob I’ll always cherish. My job at Hughes,I was part of the team that built the first three prototypes of the AAH 64 Apache. I followed certain parts thru manufacturing, there at the plant and the contractors around Los Angeles .

Thanks for showing up how to start that engine, making sure that we don't over keep that starting engine switch too long because we may damage the turbine, thanks.

Thanks Micah (and Jack). The Hughes 500 has a special place in my flight memories - as a 14 year old, first flight in any light aircraft fixed or rotary, and first ever aerobatic flight. In 1983, Seismic Survey pilots would take local whose property they crossed on joyrides between lifting jobs and on refuel runs. Just loiter on our farm near their operation till the pilot signaled to get in. First ride sitting in the back loose on top of a pile of geophone cables, and we did a perfect loop - I have a photo somewhere of perfectly inverted horizon. Barrel roll on a later ride. It wasnt a surprise though, as I had watched the aerial loops for weeks from the ground before my ride. Very cool machine!

Not sure if this is the exact helicopter, but during the Norco Shootout of 1980, heavily armed bank robbery suspects shot down a police helicopter during their pursuit from norco, up to the Cajon Pass that belonged to the Costa Mesa Police (code named Eagle), and yes, it was this model Helicopter. A bullet shot out the avionics, causing a fire and forcing the pilots to land. So, there’s a chance this helicopter may have actually been a piece of history!

Love the 500! Been my favourite helicopter since I was a kid, of all the versions to date the Hughes 500D has always been the ultimate to me. The D definitely sounds different to the C with it’s 5 blade MR system. Still a lot of original 500Ds being used where I’m from in New Zealand for mountain flying and dropping hunters deep in the bush for multi day hunts. Kinda annoying they replaced the sounds from TC’s D model on Magnum PI with Bell Jetranger sound effects…like, why would you?!.. good video…thanks..

My crystal square says a Hughes 500 is in your future.... No pressure whatsoever..
That guy knows his stuff. Should include him again down the road.
Another thing about that helicopter. Not sure if most people realize but massive amounts of helicopters, jet planes, transports, tanks and boats were left in vietnam and while a lot of it was supplied to the south VN military, a lot was simply abandoned by the US military. The VN military used most of that equipment for many years.
So I think its special to have something like that copter still flying... With steam guages... :)

You can see this is an ex mil bird? Primary controls all for the RH seat! oh and the C with the C20B engine is my favourite version of all the 500's
