- Welcome back! It was a busy summer of firefighting in Alberta and BC. We're diving back into the heli vlogs with some Heli Logging support work, and a bit of an update on how the summer went, and the work that I was doing. I'm looking forward to sharing more content this winter. Thanks for sticking around.

I just discovered your channel, watched this video and became at nce a fan! Great angles and insight to your job and flying. I am only flying RC helis and started even this a bit ate with 60 years. But my love for helicopters of all sizes and their unique capabilities is deep since I have seen the first helicopter landing and taking of when I was 5 years old! Thanks, I will stay tuned!!

nice to see you back and thanks for your service on the fires. was crazy watching as i've lived in jasper, edson, hinton, drayton valley in my EMS and safety careers... lot of beautiful country lost. i'm just east of YYC and there really is not much precip on the ground.. see what next summer brings.... looking forward to your videos resuming.. 😎👍

(i know video prepping and editing can get a bit cumbersome) This logging one inspired me to recreate a similar landing deck in Microsoft flight sim right there in BC. I'm past my prime for a career like this but my Son has had a love for heli's since he was a 2 year old. We enjoy watching your videos together. Safe flights! 🤘

What an epic place to fly! Jealous
This what makes helicopters so special, despite the poor conditions and limited visibility if done correctly a helicopter can get it done. Where a fixed wing would not be flying there at all and also would need a field to land and take off from. Even if some bush planes take off from a few feet, you gotta be able to get down too. :)
Might one of the more intense flights I've seen on TH-cam with so much cloud coverage and the snow and rain, so cool and also scary!
I only get to fly virtual helicopters my self sadly! But thats fun as well!
This is definitely a helicopter only job! Wait for the winter flights, some of our visibility gets much worse unfortunately

Umm excuse me. I have a serious complaint. With youtube in general not with you, @Eric. The complaint is that you're already up to 2.14k subs, this video in 6 days has 28,000 views. And I am only JUST FINDING OUT ABOUT YOUR CHANNEL and 50% of what I do on youtube is watch helicopter stuff. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This one earned a sub from me. Nice editing work, understated music, multiple cool perspectives. I especially liked that shot from the loggers perspective of you coming off of the pad and rolling off down into the valley, that was some really smooth flying!

No! But it definitely felt like I had. Oh yeah Matt’s days are coming around, we just need the snow here now 🤞🏼 the right skid is always last up on the astar. They naturally sit right skid low. Bell products are left skid low

Magic. You have a task worthy of your skill, that's for certain. That type of flying is as difficult as it is dangerous. You handle both like a boss. The closest I can get to that is flying my helo's in my flight sims. Even then it makes me nervous to go into the mountain valleys. Wind, ice, fog and that old friend VRS all are trying to kill you. And that's just in a sim! You're doing the real deal where there is no "reload" if you screw up. No ALT+CNT+F9 to reset life...

I only have one complaint and that is that there are only 7 videos on this channel. Amazing stuff and can't wait for the next ones.
On a sidenote: I love the tan Glacier Helicopters cap... If you ever want to set up a store with merch I'd be buying for sure.

This is a hell of a channel and job, other than the obvious 65-75k to take a commercial pilot class is there any other difficulties getting into this line of work?
Time. For sure the up front cost is high, but it takes a long time to build the experience to be able to do a lot of these types of job safely. Especially in this part of the world!
when do you began to worry about icing in these conditions?
I’m really interested in how you have your helmet cord secured to your helmet at the 7 o’clock position. I’m constantly pulling my cord out from behind me. Can you show more detail on this please?
It’s just zip tied up and over to the side. I think it would sit behind my back every time I leaned forward and it bothered me, that’s all
you def want the blades touching something to keep her from falling back.
How prone is the A-Star to ground resonance? Can it still happen if the gear system is being maintained properly? Super rare?
I’ve never experienced it, but for sure if you’re landing rough, you could get into it. Good question because sometimes the springs hang off the end of these pads, and so you’re more likely to possibly get it
As it happens I stumbled onto a youtube vid of a Calibri going into incipient GR and the pilot catches it right away and dumps collective and gets on the brake. It appeared that a concrete surface with a depression on one corner, allowing the machine to rock from corner to corner some small amount was enough to allow sufficient undamped lateral movement of the mast. I suppose there are times when it's a good idea when shut down on an uneven surface to go back to the tail and see if you can rock it, and if you can, wedge something under the skid like sticking a matchbook under a table leg. Thanks! Definitely always a concern when the weather is like this, but in this case, nothing was building up on my leading edges. Something to keep an eye on on days like that though

What are they logging that makes using helicopters cost effective?
Long straight trees to turn into phone and hydro poles. High demand at the moment
As a newer helicopter pilot 100 hrs guimbal/robi time visible moisture and freezing temps and reports of freezing rain would scare me 😂 I’m guessing you have anti/ de icing equipment
It's definitely something you have to take really seriously. No anti icing equipment, but in this case there was nothing to worry about. There are ways to tell if you are at risk of accumulating any ice

They were pulling these off to make telephone/hydro poles out of them. A lot of those poles need to be replaced, so the demand (price) is really high. These tree we incredibly straight and tall
