  • Quick tech tip on what turned out to be the problem with our 2007 VW EOS hardtop, and why it was not retracting. This may not be the exact problem that you are having with yours, but, if it is, it's an easy fix. This should apply to all 2006, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 EOS models. Might also be effective in other makes and models convertibles with a similar problem. Please like, share, and subscribe if you enjoyed this video, and if it helped you out. As always, I love to see comments of whether this helped you out or not, and feel free to give feedback on how I'm doing. Thanks. - Sponge

New switch then. Excellent video, many thanks. That explains why the diagnostics will operate it but not the manual switch👍🏻

That's awesome. Just found this problem in my 2007 EOS this morning. In my case two Australian 10c coins were enough to make the switch work. The weird thing is that in the past, if the cargo cover isn't completely down you try to open the roof and you get a warning message on the dash. But in my case I didn't get the dash warning but the two coins (approx 4mm thickness) was enough to trigger the sensor. Thanks heaps. :)

@@brucemckinnon2624 Hey Bruce. So glad I was able to assist all the way down under. In my case, it just happened to be one of those days when I didn't have 2 Australian 10c coins in my pocket. 😂 Thanks so much for watching. I hope you'll take the time to hit that subscribe button. Enjoy the rest of your morning, tomorrow, from this afternoon, yesterday. 🤔 - Sponge

Also, if you get a message that there is an ‘object in the rear’, the top won’t open. Just means the sensors on the bumper are detecting that there may not be enough room for the trunk deck to swing out far enough.
Just pull forward… or back out of the garage to correct the issue.

I have a 2007 EOS so, of course, I found this interesting even though my top is working. My switches, though, are quite different and mounted more vertically but maybe a different option package is the reason. A couple years ago the top did malfunction which I think was caused by me when I was trying to clear out the rear moon roof drains, putting the top partially up and down multiple times. It appeared to simply get confused! What I did so solve it was to locate the release on the trunk support rails and manually close the lid and when doing so the lid powered down which it hadn't done for a while. Once that was working, the top worked too. Still haven't found the leak, though, which recently during heavy rains filled the spare tire well and put standing water on the driver side front and rear!

Amazing... Worked just fine... Crazy thing though. Somehow the polarity got reversed in a rear window so down is up on one so the windows are going in two directions.

That's an odd one. I've never encountered that. You might want to do a reprogram on the system. I don't believe I have a tech tip on that process unfortunately. I hope my video at least helped repair the convertible top operation. - Sponge

Better yet glue a wooden shim cut to the right width to make sure the sensor switch is in the right position.

Did your dashboard display an error with the cargo cover? Normally it does.

Hi. Unfortunately, due to the amount of time that passed between, recording the video, posting the video, and now, responding, I have to admit, I do not remember. However, I do not think it did. There was no mention of the warning light on the dash, and I would have noticed it right away. Thanks for the question , and thanks for watching. - Sponge

My 2006 Has a "w" shaped metal part that clips to the bottom of the luggage cover leg, that makes up the distance. It will occasionally fall off & I have to go looking for it

Hi Tammi. At this time, I do not have my own shop or business license to do independent work. I am, however, contracted to work through 405 Motors in Woodinville WA. They have a service department that your friend can go through for repairs. Thanks for watching.

A round headed screw would temporarily fix the problem and be removed when new part is obtained.

@@nazardosmukhambetov4685 have you tried shorting out the switch. If works this proves the switch is not functional in-some form. If testing switch and it apparently works then possible problem with wiring. Has the wiring been injured, separated? Fault finding is not always easy but if you go to a circuit and intervene to test at half way you can determine which half the problem is in. Repeat until found. Yes I know it sounds trite but we all learned on simpler circuits than today. As a point of principal it does work but you might have to shuffle distances.
