Greetings from Brazil, today after I lowered the top of my VW EOS, to remove the seats for cleaning, I disconnected the negative cable from the battery, so the airbags wouldn't explode, after I carried out the service, I connected the battery and the top didn't go up Furthermore, the yellow light on the dashboard came on without further explanation, however, I watched your video and I am more relieved with the possibility of lifting it manually. Thank you very much for this valuable video, big hug!
If the battery has been disconnected longer than about an hour, then the computer will lose its memory of the window position and it needs to be re-taught. You know that the windows are properly indexed if they drop about a centimeter (1/2") when you open the doors. To index the windows, raise them with the regular window buttons and keep the buttons pushed UP a few more seconds.
@@TopHydraulics Thank you, for your prompt response, I finished cleaning the seats and reinstalled them, I reconnected the battery cables again, yes they were disconnected for more than an hour, after everything was connected, I was unsuccessful, the hood won't go up. I had already seen another video on TH-cam, where using a scanner it takes seven steps to reprogram the hood's functions, both for raising and lowering. The fuses are OK, but the pump motor makes no sound. Here in Brazil only 116 units of the VW EOS arrived in 2009 and 2010. I will have a huge problem finding someone to carry out this task. I don't think even Volkswagen technicians can do it. Sorry for my bad English. I am tremendously grateful for all your attention. Thank you very much!
Today, after 5 days of disconnecting the battery, after reconnecting the cables, the hood no longer went up. I left the key in the ignition and... by a divine miracle the top started working again and I was able to close the vehicle.
This video was a lifesaver. Thank you so much for creating and posting. Managed to get my EoS top closed on my own without a trip to the dealer in-time for kido daycare pickup!
Thank you for your video. Ive just bought a EOS that was not working on the roof. The locks for the roof that you showed us, especialy in side, are spot on. I would not know what to do to open the roof manualy. My car works electrical/hydrolic now, but i know how to close to roof manual if i have more trouble. Thank you very much
Excellent illustration! I am looking to purchase an EOS, but am concerned about the convertible top. Thanks to you, I feel much better about getting it!
When putting the convertible top back in normal made and out of manual, is there any type of reset procedure I need to do with the windows or the rolling up and down stuff? The computer? Anything?
How do you go about unlocking the forward frame locks at about 17:20? On my eos, I had a or problem the lock closing before the rear glad was in Place. This happens when I was applying krytox to the seals with the roof partially open and the roof stated closing. Thanks,
Hi Klaus. Thank you for this video! I have managed to do every step except one side of the roof is not closing/locking into the back of the car because the lock/latch is locked already so it will not let me close it. It will not unlock no matter what i do. Any ideas please?
This is a gem Klaus knows his stuff - explained in simple terms - Tools that are easily obtained and visual views so clear Well done Klaus Where is your company located I am in Florida
I do this but the car still showing me that the roof is being moved (signal in the front panel) how can I get rid of that signal, it blocks my trunk to be open and sometimes the windows
What would a shop charge to replace the pump and how much is just the pump if I decide to do it myself? How hard can it be with the right tools and some mechanical skills. Thanks👍🏼👍🏼
I had to manually close my roof today, without this video I would have been lost. My convertible top icon is flashing and convertible top operation message is on. My sunroof is working but the convertible isn't. I had to manually close because I disconnected the battery and it wouldn't respond after reconnecting. Any idea what I need to check or do? Thanks.
I had similar issues and fixed it all just today. Follow the instructions for the manual roof closing. For me I followed the instructions from minute 13:47 as my roof was near closed position when it malfunctioned in icy weather. I levered the ball joints down into position as in 16:46 and pushed the rams back as you will see at the end. I thought it was all failed until I put the boot compartment piece in place, closed the boot and started the ignition... then pulled the lever to open the roof and it all sprung back into a life of normality. Good luck
Hi Klaus I have a VW Golf 2011 Convertible soft-top roof. Before I take to the dealer I need your advice regarding the open roof. Just when the roof opens a warning light come up in the panel and shows that the roof is not open totally. So I need to push the left inside of the roof just a little bit and the warning light disappears. What can be the problem ??? Cheers from Melbourne/Australia
Thanks for asking. I have not had the opportunity yet to look at a Golf 6 top. It appears to be a simple system. If you get a warning that the roof is not fully open, then some micro switch is not getting triggered that normaly indicates the roof is open. Find out why that switch is not getting triggered...
@@TopHydraulics i'm in algeria is there a video shows me how to do it please ? Or can i contact you in facebook or another thing to show you exactly what's the problem
@@abdouben4387 We did not make any videos on fixing the sunroof, as we are specialized in the hydraulics for the convertible top. If you google the subject, then you will find lots of helpful information about fixing the sunroof on EOS forums.
This is every single mother with a spinal injury's worst nightmare. LOL...I am thinking of buying one of these. How likely am I going to end up in this position?? Is this cars hydraulics reliable?
Hahaha, don't let it stop you from getting the car if you really like it. The top getting stuck in the down position is extremely rare. The hydraulics are very reliable if the pump does not get drowned in water. If the pump drowns due to failing weatherstripping and you parking uphill in the rain, then you will have the top up at that time, anyway. Better yet, you can avoid the problem by drilling a drain hole into the trunk, next to the pump. I have a lot of convertibles, and I do it with all of them.
A PERSON TOLD ME TO REMOVE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY FIRST AND POSTIVE AFTER THAT I TURN IT ON SO THAT IT WILL REMOVE THE STATIC AND IN A MINUTE IT WILL CONNECT AGAIN
This video is excellent. The design of this system is horrible. My Camaro convertible's emergency valve is accessible simply by opening the trunk and can be turned with fingers -- no tools required. Then you can just lift the top and close it.

this is the best instruction I've ever seen for this. Great Job!!

Just can't believe (!), this construction is most likely a masterpiece of a (very) drunk engineer.
Thank you, saved my skin a few hours before rain was forecast!
How do you access pump ? Isn't the top on it ?
@@calvinwilson6351 No, theres enough room to access the pump, remove the cover and release the pressure valve while the top is in the boot.
Very informative and to the point!

If the battery hasn’t been low or disconnected, then there should be no window indexing needed. Close the pressure relief valve on the pump.
Great help just bought one today
Thank you! Great job!!

Thanks for your kind words. We are located in Oregon. We ship to Florida via FedEx 2-Day Service...
Do we need to tighten back down the manual pressure release valve to use the roof-up button as normal?
Indeed.
i did this and i wanna know how did you even open the 2 latches that lock the top in place mine are locked and it wount shut the top down
Same problem here too unfortunately, I don't seem to have the ball joint whatsoever
I do this but the car still showing me that the roof is being moved (signal in the front panel) how can I get rid of that signal, it blocks my trunk to be open and sometimes the windows
Do we retighten the pump pressure relief screw after all is done?
It’s okay to tighten the valve afterwards or to leave it open. Obviously, the pump won’t be able to move the top later if the valve is open.

Why does it seems as if it’s the same process as the opening of the convertible ?
is there a method to open it manually when sunroof cable is stuck
thank you
You will have to fix the sunroof first.

Manually raise the top, as shown in this video...
