Neat ideas, here's a a couple cards that might be worth looking at Snow deck: Illusionist's Bracers, Crucible of Worlds (There's a Sunstone in the list and land animation, not a bad idea), Arcume's Weathervane if you want to be funny and turn your opponents' basic lands to snow so you can animate them (or get rid of snow if they have that theme) Bird token deck: Soulcatchers' Aerie is an amazing card for birds Counters deck: Power Conduit, Hardened Scales, Spike Weaver, Sylvan Offering
Just want to say, you’re one of my fav TH-cam commander channels. Im building a manifest deck right now with the goal of flipping stupidly big creatures like leveler to avoid their bad etbs because of a video you made a few weeks ago. I appreciate your different ideas and perspective into the game!
5:28 It shines with "Sephara, the Sky's Blade" :D Also, birdos are usually white, that's why it's leaned to white rather than green; usually DInosaurs are more green 12:30 also, "Yisan, the Wanderer Bard" works well with Scholar of new Horizons since re-buying the "tutor onto battlefield" is awesome :D and maybe better than requiring 2 mana to tap "Gilraen" and blink/flicker Yisan
Built a Asmira deck a while ago -- its even better than Norn's Wellspring is Weatherlight Compleated. Get Scry earlier and draw later (and not limited to once per turn as with Norn's Wellspring unless untappers). Also costs just 2!
Roar of Resistance should be in a 10 cards you should add video. You can trigger it every time any of your opponents attack each other. I just saw this and think it would be great in a Mazzy deck due to a quick +4/+0 and Trample combination!
"A lot of commander players were probably not even alive when this card was printed" - suddenly feel super duper old :) Dovescape would be a riot in an Akim deck; so tempted to noodle through this design just to pack a deck that most would assume could not possibly be any good
Not really that old but think one under played commander ppl over look is cormela, trinket thief . I think would like see how you would build her cuz I believe a lot different ways can tackle her
Akim would probably be printed at 3 mana if made today. He’s actually a pretty fun commander and has the wincon printed right on him. He’s definitely overly-balanced as a mythic in my opinion. But there are quite a few ways to create tokens with noncreature spells nowadays, and I found that that is a good way to build him since you’re in Jeskai. Just cast noncreature spells that create tokens and draw cards off of something like Whirlwind of Thought, or create tokens with things that trigger off casting noncreature spells.
Akim is really cool, in the 99 of my Zinnia build that has like three secret commanders lmao really nice tho. And Perplexing Test is soooo good. It's almost Cyclonic Rift for me if I'm the only token player but even if I'm not, I'm so deep in on it that I'm usually better at it. Hour of Reckoning is pretty great with it's convoke as well. Inspiring Leader is a good pick but personally I run Intangible Virtue for +1/+1 and vigilance on tokens instead, between Junk Winder and my big spells being convoke, its really good to be able to swing for damage and keep up creatures for blocking or convoking. I gotta reccomend Protect The Negotiators, 1/Blue with single White kicker cost, counter target spell unless caster pays 1 for each creature you control, kicking it makes a 1/1 soldier. It's much funnier than a generic counter spell to ask if they can pay 10+ for their board wipe that was almost tapped out for. Cheap card thats actually pretty reliable with just 4-5 creatures.
Made an Akim deck a long time ago on a budget and that boy slapped! Every card in the deck had to be under $1. If it wasn’t on a budget it would’ve been too op lol
I have an Asmira deck and sadly I just keep finding it too slow despite getting more support. Tons of +1/+1 support for sure but not a whole lot of support for actually putting them on her to begin with.
Ways I know you may be burned. You looked at a commander like Heidar and thought “Snow deck”? Dude you said it yourself just using snow basics turns it into a great bounce deck. I remember once seeing you plug Than Turbine and it fit into three decks. Heidar, Derrick and Grenzo. But honestly it doesn’t feel like you’re really scratching the creative deck building itch you used to with older videos.
so this series isn't about making super unique builds. it's more about bringing attention to some of these older underwhelming commanders that have gotten better because of the cards we've gotten recently.
You’d be surprised. I play exclusively old border and there’s some real heat out there. For reference I play Multani, Phelddagrif, Selenia, and Dakkon. You just have to bake the power into the strategies you choose instead of into the command zone.
I think "Old Dogs, New Tricks" would be a good name for this series
This ^^^ do this. Yes. Make this a series and call it this ^^^
Might I propose “Old Decks, New Techs”?
As a magic boomer who rolls with all old border commanders, I appreciate this series.
I love mono blue snow. I am currently running a list with jace vryns Prodigy at the helm. My playgroup has named "ice cold jace"
Lovely!
Here in Italy, I would make an "icecream-based" pun: "Jace-lato"
("gelato" == "icecream"; which has a similar pronunciation.)
Anything older than 8 years is old by this point imo. More than half of all commanders ever have been printed in only the last few years.
For real huh? That's crazy if you think about it

I like this series! great nostalgia on older cards, and discovery of some I didnt even know about
I've been running JESKA warrior adept (Judgment) as one of my primary EDH decks for years. Old school is where it's at
great series!! love the old school stuff and you always deliver
5:28 It shines with "Sephara, the Sky's Blade" :D Also, birdos are usually white, that's why it's leaned to white rather than green; usually DInosaurs are more green

excellent content again, thanks Demo!
Dude I wish you’d stop giving away all my commanders 😂 jk I love this series great video fr Akim is one of my favorites super underrated beast!
Thanks, refreshing video after all the recent drama.
great vid, forgot about akim which probably is a good fit for my zinnia deck
Aether Revolt was 2016. Though Oviya Pashiri was printed a set earlier in Kaladesh.
It's insane to me how slept on Scholar is
I would have though Promise of Loyalty and Fumigate would be pretty good fits in Asmira? Perhaps even Ezuri's Predation?
I appreciate these unique takes on these less known Commanders. What tier do you think they'll be (joking 😜)?

I think it would be fun to see a Halloween themed episode. A deck inspired by old creature feature films would rock.
make the scariest theme ever for 2024... politics (using The Valeyard) :P
"A lot of commander players were probably not even alive when this card was printed" - suddenly feel super duper old :) Dovescape would be a riot in an Akim deck; so tempted to noodle through this design just to pack a deck that most would assume could not possibly be any good
I really like the old Tahngarth, I feel that it's also relatively well stood the test of time.
Great video
Not really that old but think one under played commander ppl over look is cormela, trinket thief . I think would like see how you would build her cuz I believe a lot different ways can tackle her
Saw ur videos I thought I had subscribed , this made me subscribe for sure🔥

I do like finding an old commander and using a bunch of new cards!!!!!!
I love your channel
Heidar could be a good include on Isu the Abominable.
Hey Demo what do you thnk about Maraxus of Keld as a commander.
Made an Akim deck a long time ago on a budget and that boy slapped! Every card in the deck had to be under $1. If it wasn’t on a budget it would’ve been too op lol
Was thinking about building Akim since ive been wanting some sort of fliers deck but havent yet cause i have like 4 token decks already...
Asmira is great, i have competitive build that goes fast af
@guim3419 do you mind sharing a link? would love to see what that looks like
Please give marraxxus of keld a look. Fav commander and so strong with all the token generators
Just call this older highlander commander
The only one I’d consider playing is Heidar.
Aether revolt came out in 2017 demo. 2012 was Return to Ravnica. Stuffs old but not THAT old
Altar of bone should be in Asmira deck unless your playgroup doesn’t allow tutor.
I have an Asmira deck and sadly I just keep finding it too slow despite getting more support. Tons of +1/+1 support for sure but not a whole lot of support for actually putting them on her to begin with.
My deck is much the same too. Using the GW creatures that sac themselves for effect. Its tough to keep up, when it worked it worked quite well though
heidar... You said Heidimar 😂
Love this series im a boomer hipster
Asmira ❤
😊

@@edhdeckbuildingcool! Dour-Port Mage has been a great addition to my Heidar Deck!
Aether revolt was 2017
I would love to play older commanders, but the power creep says no.

I don't like that you're categorizing Akim as an "old" commander when it's BARELY 4 years old. :P
it's not really, but 400 commanders a year for the last 3 years makes it seem like it.
@@edhdeckbuilding haha true true, and another 400 scheduled before 2025 :P
Ayyeee. Early for once lol
