Feels very weird going through the books just to have the paper type change mod way. The omnibus doesn't have this issue but also is more expensive for the same premium comic size

Fantastic book. This was a blind buy based solely on this video. Otherwise, I went in completely blind having known nothing about the character. Started reading on Sunday night around 11pm and then picked up the next two subsequent evenings before finishing off the final two issues on Wednesday. Very smooth read, continuously engaging. Probably the best since the first Longbow Hunters omni for me. Highly recommended.
One thing I wasn't a big fan of with the first few issues of the run (after the four issue intro storyline) was how some significant things happen to Animal man between Grants issues and we don't see it, instead we have to try and piece it together through dialogue. Im speaking mostly with regards to how he was involved with the invasion tie in issues, and how things happen to him in those issues, but wasn't included in the collected editions due to being written by someone other than Morrison. The big example is (minor spoilers to early part of run) how one issue starts with Animal man having his powers messed up from a Gene Bomb that occured through the invasion series, and we don't see that happen to him. The issue just starts with him saying his powers are messed up. Another is the cliff hanger ending from the issue with the Red Mask villian guy. The issue ends with Animal Man suddenly getting messed up by something at the end of the issue, we don't see the immediate aftermath of that attack. Was that the gene bomb??

Hi Omar, has DC ever announced a vol. 8 of the paperback collections of this volume? I own this omni, plus trades 4-5-6-7. Still eagerly awaiting vol. 8, which would include #80-89.
I'm very happy that they reprinted this finally, when I started collecting omnies in 2019 this book was very rare and expensive and everybody said this is a must have. An then I got the first deluxe edition and had to wait only a years for the second volume but that was a long year :) . I hope DC realised that they had to keep up with Marvel and reprint these amazing books.
I collected the single issues as a kid, and i was equally psyched at the social activism, the Crisis follow-up, and the still-novel meta-commentary. Bought the trades and recently upgraded to 2x Deluxe. I'll stick with those, but those who prefer Omnis should grab this!
I remember when Animal Man was originally coming out, I never had a desire to read it. This was one of the few books in that time that I never picked up nor read a friends copy. Over the years I consistently kept being told it was one of the best runs in comics. I may be slow but I’m finally taking the plunge and ordered a copy of this Omni . Your review also just piqued my interest even more.

Thanks for the video. I'm ready to pick up an Omnibus. I can get the Vertigo one for about $15 less than the 2022 DC one. Do you all think it's worth the savings to get the older copy?

I bought the Jeff Lemire Animal Man Omni, but was advised by my co-worker to wait and read this one first. They both were recommended reads, however I was told that Lemire's is a little different... I have the Morrison one now and can't wait to start!
I got into the hobby in 2020 and we were all making jokes how Omar and David needed to go over to DC to fix their collected editions department. Sadly and ironically, compared to DC, marvel needs to get their stuff together. Sure, DC prints way less books per year, but they are actually producing good quality books that are released on time, not to mention they’re reprinting books the majority of people actually want. Marvel’s 2023 omnibus sales are going to tank. They need to focus on what consumers actually want

This series has a lot of meta-commentary and trippyness to it. Some direct animal rights stuff too that's done quite well. Lemire's book is more action/horror oriented. Very different series- as well as Lemire's tying in directly with Snyder's Swamp Thing
