Hi Liz, Great tutorial 👍 on making an In-ground compost bin. The only suggestion I have is to mention sanding off any rough edges on either side of the holes so the worms aren't harmed. I'm sure yours is smooth. Happy Labor day weekend 👩🌾👍
Hi Peggy you are so right i should have mentioned that! Mine are smooth but sometimes there are - a few rough edges I have to fix for sure. Thank you so much Peggy i appreciate your comment!!!
Wow Vickie that is a sweetest thing I’ve heard since I started this whole TH-cam journey. I am flattered you watch my videos and I sincerely appreciate your kind words. Thank you so much. 🥰👍❤️
This is great, I saw a demo of this last week but I couldn’t remember the size of the holes. My biggest drill bit is 1/4” but I feel like it’s too small for some worms, especially with the rough edges. I see from yours that I’ll need to borrow a drill from a friend to make wider holes!
Hello there, Miss Jubilee. Thank you for taking the time to visit me. A quarter inch drillbit might be large enough. It’s amazing what worms can squeeze their way into. Just use your best judgment. I’m glad my video was helpful to you. You could also compost in buckets and leave them outside the ground or nursery pots, the nursery pots already have holes in the bottoms so that is all is a good idea too. Thanks again for your comment. I hope you have an amazing day. And good luck to you! ❤️🥰😇Liz
Hi Liz, what a funny video and at the same time so informativ and full of really good Informations, thank you for sharing this video with us, i will definetly try it, thank you! Many blessings from austria 🤗🙏😇❤️

Hello there my lovely!!!! How are you doing today? Its going to be 110 in my area. Ahhhhh going in the house now to cool down. Thank you for your comment.😎👍❤️
Oh yes for sure!!! I love that kind of composting as well…. In fact i think that is the BEST and easiest for sure. ( maybe i will make a video on that next) 👍😎❤️
Very nice video. However, I noticed that you didn't mention turning the material to facilitate breakdown or take a temperature to ensure that it reached the appropriate temp to kill off any unwanted seeds or microorganism. Why don't you do those things or is it not necessary because you place your material in the ground? Thanks.🦋
Good morning Nadine, and thank you for taking the time to reach out. Those are very good questions. Reason I did not mention those is because eat honestly I am not that advanced or knowledgeable with my composting. I’m just a little home gardener learning as I grow. I honestly did not know composting was that technical so I will definitely look into all those questions you have, and perhaps educate myself better. Thank you for taking the time to visit me and comment. I hope you have a beautiful day in your garden too.❤️👍🥰Liz
Such a good idea Liz to have two or three small compost bins in different areas. In a bucket you can take wherever you need it and it's not too heavy. Happy gardening, love from England 🤗
Thank you Penelope. . . yes it's a great idea when one bucket is ready while the other is still cooking. That way I always have available compost when I need it. Thank you for watching I appreciate your comments always!
Hi, thanks so much!! This is a perfect solution for what to do with all those kitchen scraps! Besides that, you'll always have good rich soil on the ready. Yea! :) Is Rosie enjoying her own personal corner (along with the chicks) in the garden?
Hi Karen thank you for your nice comment. I wish I could say that Rosie is being a good girl but I cant! Hahaha But yes she is enjoying her special corner. And the chickens are as well. I hope you are staying cool today… its a hot one!

@@GardenHappy the feelings are mutual Liz! Such amazing energy from you. Out here its a little crazy also. I have annuals that haven't died in three years. I'm really going into overdrive trying to learn as much as I can before going to Ecuador and become a farmer. I've got some land and a house, time to start enjoying it. I might not make it tp retirement age, but its a risk I might just take. Hugs back from Brooklyn, your energy is contagious. Good morning my new friend Inneke K Actually a little water is good for compost! When it is not raining I put water in my compost to help keep it damp. But normally I have a lid on my buckets ( without holes) so I have never had a problem. So my advice is DONT drill holes in the lid. Thank you for stopping by I appreciate you for watching my video! ❤️🥰👍 Liz
If you have a small garden, this is the perfect way to get started with composting! All you need is a 5 gallon bucket and some kitchen scraps. Today I'm going to show you how to make free and organic compost using this method.
Hello there and thank you for taking the time to visit . Trench composting (burying buckets and/ or digging holes and burying food) is an anaerobic process utilizing a different set of microorganisms that are active, even with less than 5% oxygen. The activity of worms and other larger soil Organisms also help breakdown the organic material. It’s no different than if you were to bury a pet or a human body in the Earth. Eventually, it would decompose. I hope I answered your question. ❤️🥰👍Liz
No, you do not have to bury the bucket. In fact, I am doing composting above ground in my bucket now. The only reason why I buried the bucket when I made this video is because I had a big dog that liked to get i to things. Composting is so easy and natural. You could also dig a big hole and put everything directly in the hole without a bucket. And again you could compost above the ground like I am doing now it’s wonderful. Sorry if there was any confusion and I hope my abs helped you. ❤️👍😁Liz
Hi WayneJohn… no not at all, you do not have to bury it. That was just the method I was using at that time when I had a big dog. Now that I do not have a big dog anymore, I compost outside of the ground. ❤️🥰👍 you can pretty much compost using any method that works best for you. Underground, above ground or in tumblers. They all work.👍👍👍Liz
Oh my goodness you are so right!!! This would NOT be a good ideas for bears! You definitely have more challenges than I do. Do you feel that tumbler composted work best for you? ❤️👍🌸
Oh wow, it sounds like you live in the mountains. Perhaps you should do a TH-cam search. “ how to compost when you have bears” hahaha I would love to know how this all turns out for you. Keep me posted.😀😀😀Liz

I hey there New friend thank you for taking the time to chat with me. I was burying mine because I have a big dog, but now that I don’t have my dog anymore I’m not burying it in the dirt. Yeah I found those big giant bins were very hard to mix the contents inside. I guess it doesn’t matter what we use as long as we are composting it’s all good right!? Appreciate you for stopping by have a wonderful week! 😇😇😇 Liz
Yes you are so right!!! i just started composting WITHOUT burying it too, and it does turn out great! I used to bury my compost under ground cause I had a big dog that would get into everything.
