    I enjoyed the video, thank you. I've been composting in 5 gallon plastic buckets for about 2 years with no covers and only 1 or 2 holes in the bottom for drainage. Sometimes it gets too wet from hose or rain, in the hot weather it often dries out for a long time, sometimes it seems like a swamp or mucky because I usually put in too many greens (kitchen scraps) and I hardly ever mix it but you know what- it still breaks down into compost no matter what you do so don't get all hung up if you're confused and have questions. Just do it. Even with "mistakes", the end result is compost. In my case I have a pepper plant and a tomato plant that came up from the scraps and have survived into the 2nd season bearing food and also 2 avocado seeds sprouted and are now 6 feet high still living without any help from me except for water.

    The composting information was useful. But here's something I'd like to add - I found the video touching because it also exuded love, gentleness, earnestness, and kindness. Sometimes I feel more than the right mix of soil or the right amount of some or the other ingredients, the grower learns about what's working with their plants quickly if they have these values. I myself started growing plants after my mum left behind a happy rose plant in my house and I didn't have the heart to see it perish. I didn't do anything right in trying to give it care. But it still survived. And I still don't get anything right but my plants survive cos they 'see' me trying.

      @@nishasantmajor5902 possibly means your compost is too wet - maybe add more brown waste? and frequently check if the drain holes are clogged. i had maggots in my compost too and i just let them be. it's rotting organic matter; this is supposed to happen. adding a good layer of dried leaves on top kept maggots to a minimum though.

    A week ago (or so), I started posting a comment on this video about how you inspired me and how I was FINALLY going to start composting. I never posted it. Today though, I am going to post because this past weekend; guess what?! I DID IT! I started my first compost bucket. It was just as easy as you have detailed here and way, way, WAAAAY more fun than I ever imagined! I was like a kid in a candy shop the entire time. A special note though. What felt best was 1) not feeling guilty about how I manage my waste, and 2) the notion of turning plants into deeper forms of energy and allowing them to live on in other perpetual forms of being as they are naturally designed! I am so glad to have met you as you are such a warm soul and pleasant spirit of a Human.

    I don't purposely get big buckets for composting. Rather, i just used whatever plastic tubs that are not so suitable to reuse for other storage. Whenever i have kitchen waste, i just opened whichever that is not full and throw the kitchen scraps in, closed the tub and keep the tubs under my kitchen sink. The scraps will rot and if they have too much compost tea in them, i will bring them out to the garden to pour to the plants that are hungry for their food. Whenever i started a new plant or re-pot, i will bring out any of the tubs that are almost filled up and turning brownish and throw them into the pot after layering the bottom. If you have tubs where you used only lemon peels, they will smell fresh and nice but if mixed with other scraps, sometimes they smelled fartish 😂😂 (nitrate smell). So far, whatever plant that i add them to, the plants survive well although i am probably one of the laziest gardener ever. I don't even bother watering much 😅

    I am doing the bokashi method... But unfortunately finished bokashi is not composted soil, it's a bunch of fermented, bad smelling and wet chunks 😂 So you need to mix the bokashi with soil in order to fully break it down afterwards... which is not ideal for a balcony gardener 🙈 So I think I'll try something similar to what you showed here and mix my bokashi with soil & browns 😊 (the bokashi "tea" is an amazing fertilizer btw)

    • @mayhemschild
      @mayhemschild ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I keep a very large Tupperware container of soil to mix the bokashi into so it can “cure.” That being said. If I’m potting up a new planter. I just slop a layer of bokashi on the bottom. It’ll breakdown no problem. By the time the root system reaches it, it’s pretty decomposed.

    If in a really small space like a deck, you can look into Bakashi bran composting, which breaks down food scraps by fermentation aerobically (without air), so it can be done quickly, in a sealed bucket or ceramic container, with little to no odor (smells vinegar-like inside). It is also a bit less messy and a bit faster (works in like 2 months).

    Wow! I learned a lot today. I love to compost because I hate my kitchen garbage to go to waste, And I can also save money from buying fertilizer. New subscriber here!

    Thank you so much for this video! You answered all my questions, but one is still open:
    Can I continuously throw my kitchen scraps in there? Or does it need some sort of "resting period"? It looks like you start the bucket once and let it rest until it is composted :) Would be amazing if anyone could give me some insights here!

      I have similar question. Like if compost needs 2-5 months, I can imagine a family needs like at least 10 buckets for all the food scraps on the balcony, since it takes so much time for them to become compost

      I feel you should start with the next container once the first one is full.And depending on the amount if waste collected you may keep on adding more containers.After around two months the compost may be ready in first bucket.I do it in small pots,one pot gets filled up in around a week.This video surely is encouraging.Thanks dear

    You really struck such a great balance between making it seem easy and approachable while still adding so much knowledge and information.
    This was just a pleasure to watch, you have such a nice vibe that it felt I was being led by the hand, but not spoken down to.
