  • The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE 350 4Matic is a sleek and spacious EV sedan with a clean design and a long wheelbase, nearly 123 inches. It has all-wheel drive, two electric motors, and 288 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque. It's incredibly luxurious and even seems to overdeliver on range estimates. So what gives? Is there anything NOT to like?

    Just a little quibble I have with this great review: You mentioned that sometimes simpler is better regarding opening the hood for wiper fluid refills rather than having the extra side panel door. Well, from where I sit, it seemed to be super simple accessing and closing that wiper fluid reservoir on the side. Why have to deal with a large, heavy front end hood to simply add wiper fluid? I think Mercedes chose the smart route here.

    The EQE and EQS as well as the SUV variants are great Model S and Model X competition.
    Superior to the Model S and X even.
    But as long as those prices exceed $100,000-$140,000, THEY CAN FORGET ABOUT SALES.
    Nearby me, these things ARE NOT SELLING.
    Mercedes is desperately offering discounts and markdowns and IT ISN’T HELPING.

      I reside in a private community and the MB EV lineup is slowly replacing Teslas. Also, Polestar and Taycan EVs are doing the same, but MB is now leading.

      For 100k, who will buy a car that has 269 miles of range. At least 400 miles is what should be the standard for that price range.

    My BIL just got one of these and I drove it a short distance. A lot to like in the vehicle, but some things are just impossible to overlook. Visibility is a big deal, and in short supply. The top of the dash is very high, so you can't see the hood at all. The steering wheel is very chunky, I found it hard to hold (I'm 5'7" tall with fairly normal hand size). Plus, with the instrument display selected by my BIL (same as you see in this video) the steering wheel can't be moved lower to a more comfortable position without blocking the digital speed display. So I'd need time to find a display that works with the steering position, but lowering the steering wheel blocks a significant portion of the display.
    This is also a very wide vehicle, so in the garage positioning it perfectly is important if you want to get out! I found the rear steering useful, very nice turning radius especially when considering the wheelbase, that 123" makes the ride much more supple, I only know of a couple of cars that long, the Citroën D model and the Citroën CX Prestige/Limousine. Of course Maybach and RR are longer, but also in a different class!
    I came away with the impression that MB is simply trying too hard. I was not impressed by the interior although the seats are comfortable and the material does feel good. But let us open the damn hood for heaven's sake! What they've done by bolting it down is simply make service more difficult. Not as much luggage room as one should get with that length of vehicle. The backup camera display is also filled up with lines that, to the uneducated/untrained, just detract from the usefulness.
    As a note, I own a BMW X5 Xdrive35D and love it.

    Isn't this the exact same model what has just spontaneously combusted and destroyed somebody's home?

    • @larryb4392
      @larryb4392 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True but how many Teslas have combusted or had their self driving features malfunction resulting in crashes? What are the statistics with other car failures causing issues at home or on the road, ICE cars included? My point here is that there will always be issues in cars of all types. EVs, being the latest breed, will naturally make news - at least far more than problems with ICE vehicles. And yes, it is up to the manufacturers to work to mitigate these problems from happening in the future, but innovation should not grind to a halt because of them.

      And just exactly what would you or the average consumer need to access under the hood of this electric car? For me, the fewer parts I have to open the better. And I am very happy to not have to go near the hood on my AMG EQS.

  • @whyallthefuss201

    What’s wrong? It’s one of the ugliest Mercedes ever made and it cost 90k to look butt-ugly. They didn’t learn from the hideous R-Series and since they introduced the EQ-series Mercedes, I’ve only seen ONE EQS in the wild.

    • @larryb4392
      @larryb4392 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your count of EQS vehicles must be definitive then. But seriously, the Mercedes EQs are sleek and modern and an excellent direction to go in when dealing with the aerodynamics of electric vehicles. If you want ugly, then all you need to do is to look at BMW EVs where they seem to want to make them look like bricks / boxes.

    How can such an ugly and expensive car with a cumbersome UI, terrible visibility and tacky shiny plastic interior with only mediocre range and charge speed have "nothing to complain about"?? I don't understand how you can say you are exceedingly impressed with such a "meh" car?? You usually aren't willing to hold back on reviews so don't understand why you are giving Mercedes a free-pass with this car.

      Hello! Thanks for watching and commenting on the video! Overall, I ended up enjoying the EQE more than I think this review suggests. Just to address some of your points:
      1. Styling and pricing - The EQE is certainly not my favorite EV design since it looks like a well-used bar of soap - far too rounded - however, I don’t think it’s really *that* bad looking.
      Pricing is, of course, relative and 90 grand is undoubtedly A LOT, but this car DOES feel like it’s worth that much. It’s enjoyable to drive and super refined. Lots of mass-market EVs are super expensive these days, too, so 90 big ones for a Benz isn’t out of the ordinary.
      2. UI and visibility - I don’t recall saying the UI is bad. I actually think MBUX is pretty great, easy to use and very responsive. Outward visibility, though, is NOT GREAT. You need all the parking sensors and cameras, ‘cause you can hardly see anything, LOL.
      3. Plastic dashboard accents - The Anthracite 3D Relief Optic trim does not look great, especially for $540 extra. As mentioned in the video, I’d much, Much, MUCH rather have one of the wood trims Mercedes-Benz offers instead of slabs of shiny plastic. Wood = good, plastic =/= fantastic
      Accuracy is the No. 1 priority, but as you mentioned, I always try to be as forthright as possible in my reviews. If I don’t like something about a vehicle, I try to say so. In this feature, I pointed out several notable flaws with the EQE but overall, I still really liked the car, more than I expected, in fact.
      Anyway, hope that clears things up and THANK YOU for watching and commenting!
      - Craig

      @@craigcole5497 My 2023 AMG EQS has a feature during setup that automatically adjusts the steering wheel and seat to best accommodate me based on my height. After doing so, I have excellent visibility looking both inside and out of the car. I am not sure if the EQE models have the same feature but it is definitely a much better way to adjust your seating position than by manual trial and error.
      My car has carbon fiber trim which I quite like. I find this to be more to my liking than the plastic, piano black trim in my previous Mercedes.
