It's a really fun and economical way to preserve extra harvest or great deals you find in the grocery store. Anything high sugar/acid you can do with a hot water bath canner. Think tomatoes, jams and jellies. Any meat, beans or low acid foods like corn, green beans or potatoes you have to upgrade to a pressure canner, which will set you back a bit more. I've picked up two water bath canners at thrift stores for a few buck each. Even new, they only run about $20. You'll also want to invest in the Ball or other brand, canning kit with the jar lifter, funnel, etc... Most grocery and farm stores, even Target and Walmart, carry jars and two part lids (you only use the lid part once, but can use the rings over and over). You can often find canning jars at thrift stores as well, just make sure that they have no chips on the rims or cracks. Also, ask your older relatives and neighbors that lived through the depression and/or the age of Victory Gardens. They'll probably give you a carload of canning jars for free! Have fun! Jams and jellies are always a great place to start your canning adventures. You can do small batches with little time or money invested.
Your recipe is close to my mom's. She was born in 1913 and got the recipe from her mom so its an old one. Using a hand grinder clamped to the kitchen counter, she ground fresh cranberries, oranges skin and all, and apples skin and all. Everything, juice and all fell into a pot. Sweet apples cut way down on the amount of sugar needed. Unlike her mom, she added cherry or raspberry jello mix with sugar - just the mix not the finished product. She did add sugar then heated in briefly before refrigerated. I never knew her to can it. We were a family of seven and ate pretty much everything in sight. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I don’t have my farm any more and seldom can. But since I found your site I am fascinated by how detailed your instructions are and love to watch them.
Next time you open a jar grill some pork chops on the grill and after you turn them put some of your cranberry sauce on top it will make the chops very tender and moist. Thanks for the video.
That’s what I did yesterday with my cranberry pulp. I also added one large gala apple chopped in small pieces and one can of tangerine oranges. I love the combo! You can use cranberry sauce on chicken or pork too. Don’t wait till Thanksgiving guys!
Show us some pictures of your Urban Arizona life back then ? This was a great video. Could you make cranberry bread, how? How did you ever make those jars hot???? Thanks.
I lucked up right after your first video and found cranberries on sale too, wiped out the grocery store ( shoulda seen the looks I got)...I just grinned and danced all the way home...going to put a dent in some berries this weekend. Thank you.
Wonderful eating all year long. So much better than store bought. I use my Berkey filtered water in my canners and everything stays so clean. The vinegar in the water was pitting the inside of my canner.
i don't know how long you have been filming, but you have really come alive. I find that I really enjoy your videos on every subject matter you film. I made cranberry sauce this year but I ran mine through the victorio strainer for smooth sauce. I have about 15 bags in the freezer that was gifted to me and I wasn't sure what to do with it but your video on juice concentrate fit the bill. Thank you so much.
I remember your video when you were canning your orange /tangerine juice. Can't find that video anymore! ;-( That's when I started following you. Thank you for all of your videos! Keep up the great work! All the best! Lori
Hi Sarah...on the morning of game days I put a can of cranberry sauce and a store bought bottle of chili sauce in a crockpot. Then add small meatballs or little smokies. Put them on low and by game time they are swimming in this amazing sauce. Awesome football food.
Thanks Gary good to know i can can w walnuts. Try adding raisins soooo good. I am going to can this year for the first time thanks to Sarah and i am soon to be 70.
One use for the sauce is to make cranberry bread or muffins. Of course with 12 jars you only have one jar a month until time to repeat the process. Love it!
I love these type of videos that doesn't waste anything and shows additional canning products that you can make that you can add to your pantry and tastes delicious.
Thank you Sarah for sharing. I made cranberry, raspberry juice yesterday. And I didn’t want to throw the pulp away. So I used it to make cranberry, raspberry sauce! It came out so good!! Thank you again for sharing!!
Thank you for this video. I LOVED it. My cousins used to live in LaVista Lakes in Gilbert AZ. They loved it so much and I went once there in Jan and I picked oranges. They were so amazing. It's like eating a store bought tomato or a garden tomato....people don't realize the difference! We have a contact here in Idaho where I live who goes down to AZ and brings back a truck load of oranges and we were lucky enough this year to get on the order! Your videos are so inspirational. Thank you very very much! We are so loving watching them. We own a bakery near Yellowstone National Park. If you ever come this way, look me up and we'll feed you!
My grandmother lived in Arizona for a long time. And some of my fondest memories of visiting during spring break, was pulling into the city at night and smelling the citrus blossoms. And my grandma had an orange tree, tangelo tree, and grapefruit tree in her back yard. I'd climb the grapefruit tree every morning and pick my breakfast. We might be moving to Arizona this summer for a job tansfer, and I cannot wait to have fresh citrus!
We use jams/jelly/fruit butters/sauses not only as toppings and fillings but we also freeze some for popsicles and add a spoonful to hot water for a nice fruity drink that is if you don't mind the pulp
Mmmmmm, yum. It's nice to see that you enjoy tips from comments. You made the cranberry sauce very much like I do mine at Christmas. I added some cinnamon and a splash of port to a couple of jars and have to say, it was very tasty. I've never 'canned' but grew up with parents who preserved all sorts.... Chutney, pickles, jams galore. Always a Christmas pudding in the larder from the year before. I find the canning videos very interesting but we don't seem to do it as much here.
Yay, I made the concentrate on Monday and have been waiting to see what you did with the pulp. I put mine in a freezer bag to wait for processing. When I mixed up some juice I tried it with sugar first and it was good, but then decided to add a touch of honey to my glass and WOW, it was fantastic! Thanks for sharing this.
Beautifully done. I also add Orange juice to my cranberry sauce recipe and even in my blueberry muffins recipe! Just substitute half the milk for Orange juice! Yum! Thanks for sharing!
I also love to see that you are not wasteful. You are very clean in your preparations, you are cute, your recipes are practical and realistic. Thank you for sharing.
I love this idea. Thank you for sharing. We had a house fire two days before Thanksgiving and lost all of our canned goodies. I'm looking forward to returning home and trying new things.
Oh no, Chrissy! We are so sorry to hear about your house fire! We hope and pray that you have an easy time replacing things that were lost in the fire.
What a great idea! I add orange zest, orange juice, and diced apples to my sauce. I used leftovers in my homemade yogurt. I bought a few bag and froze them as well, but it never occurred to me to just can the stuff! What a huge space saver! Thank you!
I love using cranberry jelly with caramelized onion maple syrup or top of Brie all melted and gooey - yummy! I make this as an appetizer when we have company.
Thank you Sarah. I'm always watching for cranberries and snap them up as soon as they appear here in Puerto Rico. I've wondered how to juice them and now I know. You're the best and my kidneys and bladder are appreciative also.
I love this video. Thanks for sharing. mmmmmmmm New York Bagel Chips, cream cheese, and cranberry sauce. I am drooling right now. I love you guys. Happy New Years.
I was born and raised in Phoenix. We have since moved away from the heat to Montana. We miss the fresh citrus too. I also love my citrus juicer. Works amazingly fast.
Good Morning From Cajun Country!!! What a great video! Thanks so much, I have a waterbath canner and very excited to use it. My son bought me a Pressure Canner for Christmas and I spent all day yesterday canning 14 quarts of pinto beans, it was so much fun! Thank you so much for giving me the courage to use my new Canner, you and Kevin are awesome!! Thanks Again, and have a Blessed Day!!!!oxoxoxoxoxo
Ive made this exact recipe but using low bush cranberries that i harvested. They are much smaller than regular cranberries but taste just as good! I put it on toast with cream cheese, so delicious!
Thank you for the canning tips! You did a great job on the video. Cranberry sauce goes really well with pork. A quick recipe is to S&P a boneless pork loin roast then sear on all sides in a hot pan. Place roast in a slow cooker and pour a jar of cranberry sauce over. Cook on low for 4 hours (or to 145 F).
The cranberry sauce would be good in a crockpot with some BBQ sauce, chopped onions and meatballs. Also use over pork chops or use as a ham or pork roast glaze. YUM!! You have inspired me to make the cranberry concentrate and sauce. Great videos!!!
I’m with Kevin,I love cranberry sauce anytime. I have 3 turkeys in the freezer that we like to eat year round. Sarah, those other ideas sound wonderful too. Thanks for the video. God bless.
Please be sure to rinse your cranberries 2 or 3 times to wash away any contaminats from the bagging and shipping process. Homemade cranberry sauce is the best ever!!
My hubby loved cranberry sauce. I wish I would have learned to can some before he passed. I am thinking it might be good on some pork loin too! Thanks for your vids!
I love cranberry sauce! Since childhood, and a major surgery at the age of 4 or 5, my left kidney gives me grief from time to time. Eating cranberry sauce and of course drinking cranberry juice gives my kidneys a boost. I’ve never made it in my life, but how cheaply you were able to buy them I bet they’re a lot cheaper than buying juice and sauce at the store! Great video!
I just did the same thing. 18lbs of cranberries. I made the concentrate like you just showed, also. I used some pulp & fresh for cranberry orange zest muffins & the rest of the pulp I did a play on a sweet & sour sauce/jam. I experimented with 1 jar & added a drop of liquid smoke & half a cup of Worcestershire Sauce & turned it into BBQ sauce. Yummo.
Now I definitely want to try making my own cranberry juice and canning cranberry sauce. I heard a lid pop towards the end, that is music to any canner's ears.
I love canning and I do the same recipe of the orange zest/juice/cranberries during the holidays. Now I am going to buy them all up near the end of the holiday season and try this! Love cranberries :)
I bet your sauce is so good. I love to pop some in the fridge to chill and then graze on it, as a dessert, in the evening. Great video. Thanks for sharing!!
I love cranberry orange sauce too. Eat it all year long, like Kevin. I make mine with raw cranberries and whole oranges. Put in food processor. Add sugar and walnuts. Freezes very well. Easy and delicious.
Sarah I just love to hear the popping sound when the jars seal, greatest sound of satisfaction. Your recipe sounds very good. God Bless to you and your family. :-)
You all are amazing! Looks really yummy! My sister adds the whole orange to her cranberry sauce-she segments and removes the pith and the whole fruit gets used.
I place cinnamon sticks, allspice berries and whole cloves in a spice bag and add it to the cranberries while they are cooking.
It's official, I've made up my mind. I'M GOING TO START CANNING!!!! WOOHOO!
It's a really fun and economical way to preserve extra harvest or great deals you find in the grocery store. Anything high sugar/acid you can do with a hot water bath canner. YAY!!
You will be so happy and proud you did.
It's a year later. Did you start to can?
I hope you started canning. It really is fun and is an art.
Your recipe is close to my mom's. She was born in 1913 and got the recipe from her mom so its an old one. Up here we call Cranberry Sauce 'poor person's jam' because it makes an excellent spread over bread with a bit of butter. Excellent stuff!
I don’t have my farm any more and seldom can. But since I found your site I am fascinated by how detailed your instructions are and love to watch them.
I look forward to your videos every morning. My nine year old Grace and I have a "tradition" of watching your videos together. Thank you!
I've read and heard 25+ recipes for homemade cranberry sauce BUT you're the FIRST to use citrus in it, just as I do! That's AWESOME
You and your husband are amazing in all you do, God Bless you
just adore your sweet family...God's best...
Wow! I love cranberries. I am 80 but still want to try this. Thanks for the video.
Next time you open a jar grill some pork chops on the grill and after you turn them put some of your cranberry sauce on top it will make the chops very tender and moist. Thanks for the video.
Man i just love when a recipe fills a dozen jars so perfectly its so satisfying.
That’s what I did yesterday with my cranberry pulp. I also added one large gala apple chopped in small pieces and one can of tangerine oranges. I love the combo!
You can use cranberry sauce on chicken or pork too. Don’t wait till Thanksgiving guys!
This content is why I subscribe to your channel.
Could have made craisens too.....I love all things cranberry!
See, Iknew there was something special about Kevin! I eat cranberry sauce all year too! LOL!

Thank you for showing how it is possible to use every ounce of what you produce, although you may need to get creative to do so. Great tutorial.
Great tip on saving this pulp.
You can also use it on sandwiches with Turkey meat. We call that Thanksgiving sandwich 😊
God bless you 🤗
i don't know how long you have been filming, but you have really come alive. I find that I really enjoy your videos on every subject matter you film. Perfect 👌. The jars being filled and another video to learn by .
Peanut butter and cranberry sauce sandwiches are one of my favorite things! 100% recommend
Mmmm... cranberry orange relish.
Thanks Sarah for once again starting my day with a positive vibe.
God Bless!✌
That would be awesome to use as a cheesecake topping as well. Cranberry Cheesecake is amazing. :)
Or i am thinking a cranberry dump cake, cranberry pancakes
Hawaiin hermit cookies my head is just full of thoughts!
I have never made it with orange zest & juice, but I so want to try it now!!!
We use cranberry sauce when we make chicken sandwiches and on roast beef sandwiches as well. It is awesome added to pumpkin loaf.
SO many great ideas in the comments I had to get pen and paper for them.

Hi Sarah...on the morning of game days I put a can of cranberry sauce and a store bought bottle of chili sauce in a crockpot. Then add small meatballs or little smokies. Put them on low and by game time they are swimming in this amazing sauce. Awesome football food.

You guys are killing me with all these great ideas!
Emma Dalrymple Hello! And I second that, I need to stop reading comments or I’m gonna die of thought starvation! Lol
I love cranberry sauce. I use it as a contaminant with pork and chicken. I can mine with apples and walnuts and its called cranapple.
Love it!
Awesome video, thanks Sarah!
That comes out to be roughly $.30 a pint for the juice concentrate and sauce. How smart is that!
Wonderful video and I will be canning some. I love your cooking videos. They are fun.🌸
I love these type of videos that doesn't waste anything and shows additional canning products that you can make that you can add to your pantry and tastes delicious.
I love hearing the jars ping!!!!

I love this video. Thanks for sharing. mmmmmmmm New York Bagel Chips, cream cheese, and cranberry sauce. I am drooling right now. I love you guys. Happy New Years.
Cranberry sauce is the #1 best spread on turkey or chicken sandwiches. Also good glaze for ham or in scones.
I love cranberry sauce with any fowl. chicken duck or turkey.
its also good with game meat and pork. The only meat that I don't like it with is beef
We love it too and we also pair it with ham. Yum!
I love it with ham. Yummy.
Great idea. So resourceful.
Looks wonderful Sarah ..... those jars of cranberry sauce would make great gifts as well! Take care.
My goal this year is to learn how to finally can. This recipie looks so easy.
Your so joyful! Love it!
I was born and raised in Phoenix. We have since moved away from the heat to Montana. We miss the fresh citrus too. I also love my citrus juicer. Works amazingly fast.

My wife and I just made our own cranberry juice following your video instructions. We used the leftover cranberry mash in pumpkin/cranberry bread.
The cranberry sauce would be good in a crockpot with some BBQ sauce, chopped onions and meatballs. Also use over pork chops or use as a ham or pork roast glaze. YUM!! You have inspired me to make the cranberry concentrate and sauce. Great videos!!!
I bought a bunch of bags of cranberries this Dec for .25 a bag. I now know what I am going to do with them. Ty You guys are wonderful.
And cranberry is excellent for urinary health ♡♡
Well, that’s if you don’t use refined sugar.
Looks wonderful. Glad you didn't throw the pulp away.
This is great! I hate to waste food and this is a great way to use up the entire cranberries and have it for jam, toppings and fillings.
Shara you are a amazing woman. Sometime it would be nice to show everyone where you put all your canning.
I love this idea!! Thank you so much for sharing ❤️
Thank you for being so positive and having such an easy going attitude. Great ideas and knowledge distribution as well.
My hubby loved cranberry sauce. I wish I would have learned to can some before he passed. I am thinking it might be good on some pork loin too! Thanks for your vids!

Now I definitely want to try making my own cranberry juice and canning cranberry sauce. I heard a lid pop towards the end, that is music to any canner's ears.
Thank you to Living Traditions
We love cranberries and I make sauce every fall. Now, I have a new plan! Thank you.
Great video,! The sauce looks so good! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and homesteading skills with us all, Sarah! God bless
I love cranberry orange sauce too. Eat it all year long, like Kevin. I make mine with raw cranberries and whole oranges. Put in food processor. Add sugar and walnuts. Freezes very well. Easy and delicious.
We love that too! 😊
Sarah I just love to hear the popping sound when the jars seal, greatest sound of satisfaction. Your recipe sounds very good. God Bless to you and your family. :-)
I'm glad that I found this following video after you made cranberry concentrate. Love cranberries too!! God Bless.
You all are amazing! Looks really yummy! My sister adds the whole orange to her cranberry sauce-she segments and removes the pith and the whole fruit gets used.
You are so amazing with great ideals like no waste.👍
