This was the first video I've watched here and what a joy. We are actually cranberry farmers and I can honestly say I've never heard anyone who's not a cranberry farmer talk about cranberries as thoroughly and with as much love as you did here. I make my own juice, too and you're right the color and flavor is phenomenal. Thank you so much for supporting the cranberry industry.
Jennifer! I love your channel- A COUNTRY LIFE. I was just there again for your jellied cranberry sauce. I'm getting ready to make it again because it's SOOO GOOD! I've been wanting to try this recipe of Sarah's for some cranberry juice concentrate as well. Here goes!! Thanks for walking us thru the process Sarah. Happy Thanksgiving everybody & God bless 🙏🙏🙏
Sarah, I appreciate you and Kevin and the girls more than words can say, but I wanted to try and say how in just a few ways. I grew up on a homestead for a few years and my mother and grandmother both grew up their whole lives on homesteads, so they taught me a lot. Both of them have passed, but you have, unknowingly, picked up the mantel. I am physically disabled, so haven't been doing a lot of the things I used to, but you have inspired me to do some things and to start a small garden again. You've made a difference in my life and I thank you
My grandmother made grape jelly. She hung the bag of pulp on a broomstick straddles between two kitchen chairs. She would have a second shorter stick in the knot of the bag and would twist and let it set and drain, the twist again. Love your videos.
I make homemade cranberry sherbet every Thanksgiving , a tradition my grandmother started. I wish I’d paid more attention when my mom and grandmother were canning fruits all summer! I love your channel
I love your ideas and got inspired to make this myself. I already make a cranberry tea, so this takes me to the next level! Anyhow, Publix had cranberries 2 for $1, but we were able to negotiate 4 cases for $.25 EACH bag (24 bags in a case). Talk about nerdy math and great savings!!
SARAH, Thank you for teaching safe canning! Been canning for 30+ years and continue Ball's methods to sterilize my jars. Great you continue safe canning as many You Tube Videos TAKE SHORT CUTS..ie Unwashed cranberries, not sterilizing jars and not boiling cranberries in the jars and dump large amts of sugar into jars, etc. Years ago, i admit i watched your videos to critize your methods...I have yet to do so. Now, if i have not done so, i praise you for teaching others SAFE CANNING AND FOOD PRESERVATION!
Sarah, I saw someone use a wooden TV tray, they turned it upside down and used hair ties to hold the four corners to the legs, set a large pot under the cloth and pour in the stuff to drain. I have been using this method since then and I set it on my table and let it drain all night. Works like a charm, I use it for jelly or grape juice.
My 5 year old just watched this video with me and said can we go to her house and try that juice! Lol I guess we will have to make a batch. Great video as always! Yall have a great day!
Cranberry juice is the only one I drink. I usually buy one container a month. (This might be a tmi, but I only use it to help maintain urinary health) I never thought of making my own. Definitely going to scour the grocery stores next time I'm in town lol. Thanks! Happy New Year!
I use a juicer to make a juice for UTI. I put 1 pkg. Of cranberries and a apple and drink it quick. The apple sweetens it without sugar. Its great for UTI. I've had issue with UTI and in 30 min. For me its gone. Just letting anyone that has UTI problems, try this. Thanks Sarah, for showing how to can cranberries!
Another thing to use for UTI or getting sick in general is eating fermented foods such as homemade sauerkraut (fresh not canned). The probiotics in them naturally boost your immune system and within minutes I can feel a difference. If you take a couple of spoonfuls every hour or every few hours you will notice a big difference. If you only have pickle juice you can do the same with that and it also works well. Hopefully this gives you another possibility to help you feel better.
Kefir milk is another one of those fermented foods with lots of probiotics. It looks and tastes like liquid yogurt, but has way more probiotics than a typical yogurt does.
You are one smart gal . I got so much cranberries from CSR and I just froze them and used them for recipes and chutney but didn’t think of Juice or maybe I thought this would be impossible. Your kidneys are thankful for the effort.
Linda Fisher Great idea. I was in a really fancy restaurant and they offered as a nonalcoholic beverage cranberry juice with tonic water it was really nice.
I love the color of cranberry so I took a beautiful white shirt and put it down in the cranberry juice and left it for two or three days and it come out the most prettiest blouse you ever seen
One year we got cranberries on sale and made fruit leather in the dehydrator. So good, and it is surprising how little sugar you need for such a tart fruit. Who wouldn't want to have those gorgeous jars in their pantry?
I may have to check my grocery stores for cranberries and do this! Awesome! Thank you Sarah! P.S. my 4 year old daughter just loves watching you. Out of all the Homesteading TH-camrs I watch, you are her favorite! She loves your braids!

@@5points7019 We can for the following year. One year in a jar lets all those spices set in and blend really well. It goes really well with my wife's lechon on New Year's Eve dinner.
Thanks for letting us know about this. I bought 25 bags for 25 cents each!! Now there are lots of concentrate and lots of cranberry orange preserves in our pantry. So good!!!
Fantastic!!! I have a bag of cranberries and I want to make a small batch for this week. But you’re inspired me to want to go out and find some cranberry deals and can!!
Here in Canada you will never see 50 cents a bag, a few years ago I found them for 95 cents, I went crazy, have never seen it again.. what fun at 50 cents a bag :)
Great idea. I used up some cranberries in the fridge and made juice to go with Christmas brunch and my son's girlfriend loved it. He bought me more cranberries and I made two gallons of it for them.
INSPIRED... I found your video at the right time. What a blessing! NW Wis here. I proceeded to get a 24 qt. stock pot. Then Walmart had Cranberries on sale for $1.50 a bag. Inspired by this video, I bought 15 bags of FRESH Wisconsin Cranberries. The results were amazing. I just spent the past two days on this project. 18 Pints of Cranberry Juice Concentrate. 14 Pints of Cranberry Jam/Sauce. [ I could only find Navel Oranges, so i used 2 and added 4 Limes.] Just a note, I bought and used 2 Nut Milk bags--the Nylon ones. They worked SO WELL, especially for twisting and squeezing. Then, they washed out clean. Thank you again. Bless your efforts. Enjoying your other videos.
Loved the canning video. You are a natural in front of the camera. Your voice is pleasant, your presentation is educational and your dimples are to die for!! Keep smiling.
Lol. I saw cranberries on clearance at my store and I thought “ great price but what would folks do with them?” Lol. Now I know!!!!! Thanks. I have learned sooooo much from you over time. You are an inspiration to all of us out here in TH-cam land....keep the wisdom coming! ✌️💕
Always TH-cam everything and someone is doing it. It’s awesome. Sam’s club has the bags for 51 cents right now so I searched to find things to do with them too. Besides smoothies. :)
Yum, lot of work though. I usually make cranberry jam at Thanksgiving or right after, it doesn't last long though. We like the skin and the pulp so I don't strain it. Sometimes I squiz an orange or 2 and zest them as well even lemon zest....really yummy.
Oooooh! Such a great deal! I would save 2 bags to make cranberry-orange-pecan relish. Soooo good! It can be frozen in portions too. Great info on the juice!
Thank you for sharing I am making 10 bags We like the pulp so I mash the berries with a spatula and use large stainless steel strainer then I freeze the juice for later use
I bought a bunch of cranberries when they were $1 a bag and canned cranberry sauce. I wish I would have saved some to make juice! What a great idea! I will definitely have to do that next year.
First time watching your channel. I am very pleased to have found you. Canning is something have wanted to do for a while. I choose who I follow based on subject or course and the voice of the individual. You have a smooth tone and it keeps me engaged . Off to binge watch more videos. Blessings to you and yours.
Dear Sarah, my favourite tipple is cranberry juice with soda water, ice and lemon slices. I’m going to hunt down that book and those bargain frozen cranberries! I adore the tart taste of the berries and lemon, and it is so good for you too. Another excellent video. I now will not be happy until my pantry is full of gleaming jars.....☺️🥰☺️
I love cranberries and like you I grab every bag I can get my hands on. I use them in my baking, making cranberry sauce, and mixing with other fruit to make juice. Love your old fashioned ways of doing things took me back to my mama's.
Good morning Sarah. Yesterday I canned 15 jars of cranberry sauce and jellies . I never once thought about making my own cranberry juice, which I buy from the store. 😔 Thank you for sharing. I'm going to head back to town today and see if I can get another case. Have a wonderful day. 🇨🇦
I'm a huge fan of cranberry sauce. So last year I bought a lot of fresh cranberries and then made cranberry sauce and then canned it. Some I added walnuts to. Amazing. Now I can have homemade cranberry sauce all year long. Thanks for all you do and may our God continue to bless you and your family.
This is such a great idea! Unsweetened and/or low sugar cranberry juice is so expensive by me. This would save so much money. (I drink a lot of cranberry juice. 😂) Thank you!! ❤❤❤
It's never too late to come across your videos. This one will probably start me to get canning. We love cranberry juice and this might be the best thing to do to keep a good supply of concentrate in the pantry. Wish me luck and God bless you.
Do people do the same with oranges? Perhaps also with apples? I guarantee you, there’s nothing better than fresh-made apple juice (although my memory comes from apples being juiced for cider so that could make a difference).
I love making cranberry lemon chicken, it's so yummy. They caramelize on top and at the bottom of the baking pan oh yes so yummy. I sliced lemons and use dried cranberries.
Now I loved this video and idea! Super great idea and HUGE money savings!!! One thing I do to save even more money and time in instaces like this when taking things from the freezer to either cook for a meal or can like this is I take them out of the freezer usually the night before so they have time to naturally get to room temperature then start the cooking process. Doing that saves me time cooking them on the stove and money spent on gas. Also another way to easier ladle things into my jars I use a glass measuring cup with a handle so in one motion I can see that I have enough amount in the measuring cup and there is a pour spout on the cup. Well Sara I am going to make sure I check out the freezer section of the grocery store this weekend to do this! Such a great idea that I have never thought of nor did I even know how to do! Thanks!!!
I do add grated orange peel and the orange juice, plus cinnamon stick and nutmeg. I just kept my comment short. It is fabulous. I need to go look for cranberries today.
I'm catching up on older videos. I love canning, saving money, myo, & just trying to have a better pantry. Thanks for all y'all share. I may not comment often but I love y'all channel.
Never thought of doing this. And I love cranberries at Christmas! Will absolutely try this. Cant wait to see what you do with the pulp. I was thinking to give to the chickens but apparently you have something else in mind.
I found cranberries for .68/bag and bought 10 bags. I followed your directions and ended up with 17 pints of concentrate! I tried it mixed with some seltzer water without sweetener and I loved it. I enjoy a tart beverage. Tomorrow I will make your cranberry relish Thanks!!!!!
I think I would have let them cook in a slow cooker overnight (so you don't have to stand there) and then once cooled put them through a blender to make more juice. I think it would be easier to strain that way too. Love the idea though! I think I will be looking for cranberries on sale now :)
I do a similar process, not to make juice for drinking but for the first step for making cranberry and port jelly ( in England we use it for an accompaniment to roast poultry eg, chicken, turkey, duck even roast pork) The pulp that’s left is then made into Christmas chutney which is fantastic with cheese or gammon ham (cold cut)
Cherrie Mckinstry No the jelly is a clear deep purple set jelly. I include some freshly pulped and juiced Bramley Apple juice with the sugar in the final jelly process so there’s a lot of pectin - no gelatine is used and there’s a good set. The port is added near the end before putting it in the jars. Unlike the USA, the British jam making process does not include a bottling water bath in the process for jam or jelly making. The chutney recipe I use is one from Mary Berry the British cooking doyenne.
@@elizabethprior4968 that is good to know as I know people used to do it w/o a canning bath though some items that don't have sugar, acidic, or salt are not as stable with out a canning bath.
I just made my first batch of cranberry juice and I am in love! I don’t even know why I am canning it, it will. Not last the week. 8 pints. Thank you for the inspiration.
Sarah, you are amazing! How lucky for us that you share your talents and in such a simple way! Because of recently being diagnosed with some health issues I have changed my diet to as all natural as possible and have cut as much sugar from my diet as possible. I have stayed away from store juices because of the sugar, so this is perfect! I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to share this process.... it will bless my life. Thank you, sweet lady 😊
Wonder if I could do half cranberry and half black cherry. May have to try this and see how it comes out. Cut back on how much my husband spends on juice. Thank you.
I love how they sound like popcorn when boiling. I made my own cranberry sauce the other day. I love cranberries. Great video Sarah. Lots of good info.
I love this! I am the only one in my house who eats cranberries but they all love cranberry juice. Now I have a great way to use up all the cranberries I bought for the holidays. Thank you!
Thanks for the video! You inspire me to do so many new things. My husband and I are close to retirement (17 months to go, but who's counting!) We plan on moving and having a little homestead of our own. I think I'll call us the over the hill homesteaders! Lol Until then I'll keep learning new things through you and Kevin!
One of my favorite jellies for gifting is jalapeño cranberry. Everyone thinks I am gourmet, but I'm really just frugal. Just follow your favorite cranberry jelly recipe measurements, first having simmered 10 jalapeños in the cranberry juice. Most recipes suggest removing seeds and inner membranes, but not enough heat for us that way so I remove stems and just slice in half lengthwise. Of course you strain before canning. Makes a lovely, deceptive pink jelly that packs a punch!
I love making cranberry juice. We get cases of cranberries for under $10 Canadian here ... at discount produce stores. I found if you did a first wire mesh strain... then ran the batch through a cloth it sped up the process. That pulp leftover I used with some sugar and made fruit roll ups. I can't wait to see what you did with your pulp.
cranberries are good for the prostate and rich in vitamin c great to add a few to smoothys although all vitamin content was destroyed in the cooking canning process
So YOU bought them all LOL! We looked for cranberries for a relish recipe at Christmas time. Every store in 4 areas had NONE! Thanks for this video. We will be on alert next year for clearance. We love cranberry juice so we will make some concentrate. We like it mixed with other fruit juice as well.
I made this and its delicious. I heard about it somewhere else and they kept the berries whole. I'm glad I checked here before I made it. Boiling prior and straining now vs later wins.
You are a hard worker Sarah. I am a lazy old gal so I make mine one frozen bag of cranberry at a time. And use the pulp in cranberry bread. All in the same day. So much easier for me. Love all you do.
My mom puts a broom top of 2 chairs (backside facing the other backside and the broom is on top) and she hangs the towel with the pulp on it, the pot is between the two chairs on the floor.
You should check out the Victorio Steamer Juicer. It makes the juicing process so fast and easy! Love your videos. From one Missouri homesteader to another, God bless!
I just commented something similar, I was not familiar with the steamer juicer you used and looked it up. Its exactly like mine called a Mehu Maija. It really makes a difference and, well worth the investment. I wish more home canners were aware of this awesome tool. You can do so much too, I run mine all day and do bushels of fruit! Glad to see someone else uses it.
I was going to comment about a Steam Juicer too. We have 3. I run apples through it to make applesauce and if it's a juicy year, you get juice too, not a juicy year, just add the juice back into the apple sauce after running them through the Squeezo. Our favorite is grape juice. When we lived in MO it was very easy to find all kinds of grapes to juice. Love my steam juicers. Wonder if there are any cranberries left locally to give it a whirl with them.....
@@katelynsteverson6280 I love using it for broth as well. You steam a whole chicken and while it's making chicken broth, you also get a delicious roasted chicken for supper! :)
@@lorindav5549 I agree the best is grapes, we also find wild grapes here in upstate NY. We then make wild grape jelly and anyone who has ever had it says its the best grape jelly they have ever had in their lives.
I just did this juice and the sauce with the pulp. I found cranberries here in Canada for .88 a bag which is unheard of. I bought 30 bags. I have done half and so far have 7 pints of juice and 9 pints of sauce. It is so very pretty and I am so excited. Thank you for the inspiration!!
@Lucille Carpenter - I replied to someone else the other night, saying that all the other stores in the area were out except the local Ingles ($1.49 bag) and I was going to go in the morning. Well, I got there and found 16 bags and they had marked them down to 99c each too! I bought all of them. So now I have about 46 bags in the freezer. I use them in my juicing, so if I use half a bag per week, they'll last me the entire year. : )
I watched this video years ago and I finally was in the store when Aldi had 99 cent fresh cranberries on sale. I got 8 bags and will be looking for more now!😊
I freeze my for a year and cook a half gallon per large bag and use a hand blender to puree them after they've popped open. I use no sugar and add some to water or kombuchi. Great for curing bladder or kidney infection. Love the shows.
Lovely video! Well-explained. You can also make this in an Instant Pot. 8 minutes high pressure, full natural pressure release, although even an 8 qt. wouldn't hold that many cranberries. You'd have to do two batches.
Even when you add in the cost of the lid, it’s still cheaper than a sale, and we all know homemade tastes so much better! Can’t wait to see what you do with that pulp! Preserves maybe? I keep hoping I will come along some on sale, but so far no luck.
It's that way here too. Even old bannanas on sale are hard to find. Then suddenly we find a whole bag of mangos for .99 cents that's ripe and I put them through the food processor. Freeze in thin layers and fresh fruit sherbet. Great alone or a chunk on my yogurt.
I don't make juice but love cranberries all year so buy 2 to 4 bags each time I shop, from time they are first available till end of year. I always have some in my frig.

We like the pulp so I mash the berries with a spatula and use large stainless steel strainer then I freeze the juice for later use
Thank you for sharing. I'm going to head back to town today and see if I can get another case.
Have a wonderful day. 🇨🇦
Isn't it funny the things we don't think of but then the sauce probably has less sugar than the juice. I like having control over my sugar intake.
If you use a big measuring cup a 4 cup measuring cup or even a 2 cup measuring cup with handle the ladeling goes way faster
Ya, I do that sometimes.
I made this yesterday. And will can it later today. It turned out really good. Thank you !!!
Great job! I also do the juices method for grapes as well as cranberries! Great delicious choice of fresh fruit juices! Thanks for sharing!
Grapes? Whoa, never thought of that! Great idea!
Do people do the same with oranges? Perhaps also with apples? I guarantee you, there’s nothing better than fresh-made apple juice (although my memory comes from apples being juiced for cider so that could make a difference).
I used to can 100+qts of orange juice a year when we lived in AZ. It was wonderful!
Thanks!!!
WHAT so easy I will be adding this to my canning list of things to do. Thanks again Sarah for another great lesson. Much appreciated
I'd add a length of wax paper between the cupboards and the tea towel. But extremely interesting. I've only made the cranberry sauce with sugar.
Good idea
You should try adding a cinnamon stick and orange peel. During cooking then remove before continuing. The added flavor is fabulous.
I do add grated orange peel and the orange juice, plus cinnamon stick and nutmeg. I just kept my comment short. It is fabulous. I need to go look for cranberries today.
Never thought to add orange juice to it I will have to try that but I don’t grate my peel I just add it whole and remove when done cooking .
@@lynnmasoner7627 yeah why waste the orange. I might eat a few sections but the majority gets squeezed in the sauce while preparing.
what a GREAT way to use cranberry and when they are on sale at that price you can't go wrong, will give this a try for sure. thank you for sharing
I think it's always considerate to share a good find, like leaving a few for another person...its fun to score a good find for sure😊
I'm catching up on older videos. I love canning, saving money, myo, & just trying to have a better pantry. Thanks for all y'all share. I may not comment often but I love y'all channel.
What if you ran it threw the thing that you make tomato sauce with then run it threw the strainer then the cloth.
I do plum juice concentrate the same way
Never thought of doing this. And I love cranberries at Christmas! Will absolutely try this. Cant wait to see what you do with the pulp. I was thinking to give to the chickens but apparently you have something else in mind.
muddyacres ....oh that pulp is valuable :))
Excellent and it is healthy and you know what the family is drinking.
I do a similar process, not to make juice for drinking but for the first step for making cranberry and port jelly ( in England we use it for an accompaniment to roast poultry eg, chicken, turkey, duck even roast pork)
The pulp that’s left is then made into Christmas chutney which is fantastic with cheese or gammon ham (cold cut)
We do that in the US also :).
How do you make the cranberry sauce with the chunks in it. I didn't think I'd like it till I tried it and I liked it. Chutney sounds great too.
Cherrie Mckinstry
No the jelly is a clear deep purple set jelly.
Thanks
Thank you for easy instructions. I've been wanting to do this for quite a while!
Wonder if I could do half cranberry and half black cherry. May have to try this and see how it comes out. Cut back on how much my husband spends on juice. Thank you.
Enjoyed it very much. I will scout out my grocery store for fresh cranberries! Thanks!😊
I would love to follow your new adventure! I am similar age and am intrigued with self sufficiency!
Enjoy the retirement! I am a student but looking forward to retire already. Luckily in my country we need to work untill 70 year old :(
Thank you so much, I quit fruit juices from the store, now I can make my own.
Good to mix with apples and grapes as they go on sale fairly often in my parts
Makes me want to start growing cranberries! I know there is bog type and high Bush.
I made this and its delicious. I heard about it somewhere else and they kept the berries whole. I'm glad I checked here before I made it. Boiling prior and straining now vs later wins.
Oh my gracious, what a great idea!!!! I would have never thought of doing that! Thanks!!!
I was going to comment that this is how we used to strain elderberries. I guess a lot of moms have two chairs and a broom. ;)
@@J3rs3yM1k3 Hahaha! Yes! Moms are great at every corner of the world! :D
Thank you! I can't wait to try this. I try to stay away from preservatives and chemicals, etc. that store bought foods and juices have in them.
@@SunsetValleyRanch03 wow! I never knew, that was an eye opener, thank you for the tip!
You could put waxed paper behind the towel to protect the cupboard, if needed.
GKevin Eady , that is exactly what I thought!
OMGoodness I'm going to do this. Thank you Sarah for showing us how to make cranberry concentrate.
I bought 20 bags when they went on sale for .99 ..that was a good deal here.
I never knew you can make it that way.. Thanks for teaching...
Love the shows.
that would be really good with a mixture of apple juice....I love cranapple juice!!!!!! I enjoy all your videos!!!
Clarence Clark what kind of apple juice do you use? Do you make your own?
Made this today for the first time. Thanks for the inspiration.
I wouldve thrown in 4-5 pomagranats! mainly because its my own personal prefference😂👌
I don't make juice but love cranberries all year so buy 2 to 4 bags each time I shop, from time they are first available till end of year. I always have some in my frig.
My Dad would say you were "living high on the Bog!"
Ouch! Lol
@@lindasmith6202 In Texas, it's high on the hog. :)
