  • HOW TO RE-APPLY SEALANT AROUND YOUR KITCHEN SINK
Water can leak around your kitchen sink and damage the cabinets underneath. This is how to fix it for just MYR30 worth of equipment
You will need: a caulk or sealant gun, waterproof silicone sealant (I used white colour), a pen knife, a spray bottle with soapy water
    - Scrape away the old sealant
    - Make sure the area is clean and dry before applying
    - Cut the applicator spout at 45 deg angle
    - Cut the sealant tube opening
    - Load the caulk gun
    - Press the latch and slide the plunger back
    - Load the sealant tube
    - Apply sealant evenly
    - Spray some soapy water
    - Wipe away extra sealant with an ice-cream stick
    - Leave to cure and dry for up to 24 hours

You shouldn't spray soapy water until after you have used your stick for the 1st time, This is because the soapy water can get behind the silicone ( ie: gaps) and then the silicone will not stick to that part of the worktop. Instead you should try dipping your stick into a solution of soapy water, then tool the sink, and once its had a firm push in around the sink with the stick , then you can use your spray bottle, because now the soapy water cannot go behind the silicone.

Both of you had great ideas, tho personally Ive done both and the only one foolproof way is with putting masking tape first with the edge of the tape ending where you want your start of the sealant bead, then applying the sealant, pulling it with a stick or tool, spraying soap water, then finish with tool stick or finger.

It was suggested to me to have a small container with water and a drop or two is dishsoap. Keep dipping you finger in the water/dishsoap solution as you wipe the silicone after it is applied.
The silicone shouldn't stick to your finger as you wipe and make a mess

I know it is all over TH-cam but using any liquid to smooth sealant is a very bad idea
Every major manufacturer says not to use liquids to tool with if you look at their tech manuals. Here is what DOW ( one of the largest silicone manufacturers in the world ) says: “NOTE: Do not use liquid tooling aids such as water, soap or alcohols. These materials will interfere with cure, adhesion and create aesthetic issues.”

bad video, horrible finish. if you want a clean and smooth finish, get yourself a painter's tool and use that to glide the silicone into the seam, if you end up with extra sealant on your tool, wipe it off with a paper towl. Also don't use white silicone in your kitchen, use clear. white is for the bathroom. Don't mix in water either, at any point when doing caulking. This video is so bad.
