    Thanks for the video! I bought my first home in 2023. Whoever did the bathroom in the house used grout in the corners of our shower. The grout has now cracked, so I've taken it out and will be applying silicone. Never done it before, so this was extremely helpful!

    I’ve always used masking tape and my finger haha.
    This was a really clear and detailed commentary on how to use a profile tool so I’m going to try that on my kitchen tiles. I hadn’t realised how long you can leave the silicon bead before profiling it, I always thought it would skin over.

    Some good tips, thanks. I was doing my bath today and I also have uneven tiles so tried masking tape put on tight to the tiles, acted as a guide to lessen the step. I bought some Silicone that was specially for bathroom - not much tooling time like yours so only got 5 mins before started going off - something to bear in mind when buying! Thanks

    If I am a diy man and had a new bath I'd be asking the fitters why they have done half a job. If i need to seal it. Something I did recently after the kitchen floor replaced and they didn't seal and didn't even bother re fitting the bottom of the cupboards. Its almost like because there is a lack of skilled tradesmen I should be happy for a non complete job. Trades in uk are taking a liberty with the customers. Thanks for your advice tho. Going to now finish a job I paid a apparently reputable company to do. With your advice I can go do it.

    Nice one 👍 I can't stand going behind taps 😫 you have to know when to stop when doing this sometimes don't you, there's been a few occasions when I got it looking 95% good and tried to get one little bit then made it loads worse! Haha
    I always get through a load of toilet roll when I do my sealing 😂 only use wipes sparingly as they're more expensive. The no nonsense wipes from screwfix are always on hand though ✌️

    • @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
      @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need to shop in Aldi, 50p a pack for wipes. I pinch them from my boys room! You're right about over working it, too much and it goes lumpy. • @mzaalam

    Sometimes the bath sides drop when a human steps in so it’s better to fill the bath then do this. The silicone sets with the bath dropped as much as it’s going to - so when it is stepped into it has less chance of breaking the seal under the bead.

    Hi mate what size of the profile tool did you use for the bath?

  • @barrycrump6189
    @barrycrump6189 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    These profiling tools only work well if the tiles have been laid very evenly and flat. Also, if the gap between the edge of the bath and the tiles is more than 5mm then you will be left with a huge wedge of silicone. In this case, use the good old finger & masking tape technique with a finger dipped into white spirit to get a nice smooth and even finish.
    Lastly, if you have to silicone vertical walls as well, it is best to do these first and then allow it to dry overnight before doing the horizontals - this way you should get a much neater corner. In case you're wondering, silicone does stick to silicone just like sh!t sticks to a blanket.

    Profiling tool… or lolly stick. I’m new to DIY and watched loads of vids on sealant. The best tool I’ve seen used is a lolly stick. It leaves a decent amount of sealant behind so both sides of the join are covered with helps eliminate getting water behind the sealant and thus helping to eliminate the pesky black stuff and also looks finished well too.

When I go over it with the tool it is spreading the black everywhere and when it first happened I thought oh I'll just wipe it off and clean it up as i go but obviously when i go back to wipe off the excess it ruins the neat line and it is a nightmare to get off.
    Ive been watching so many videos and everyone seems to have a neat line when the tool is used whereas i have a neat line but the sealant just spreads out. No idea if it is because of black sealant - i dont think so! Anyway ... Ill continue watching videos to find the answer lol

    So far you seem to understand sealant installation. I have installed sealants for over 40 years. One issue I have with these profiling tools is ( especially on tile) going one direction pulls the sealant away from the tile at the leading edge and pushes it into the trailing edge. It needs to be used in both directions My pet peeve is morons that say to spray on soapy water or alcohol or window cleaning fluid or any number of fluids, You are not one of those.My only issue with you as a professional sealant installer is tool In hboth directions. Of course as a professional I would use my caulking tools and not a profiling tool. EXCELLENT JOB. If you research I am far less kind to the other morons that have no idea what they are doing. BTW after more than 40 years in the industry the 2 best materials 😢manufacturers of silicone are DOW and GE. WELL DONE 😅BTW Again I have actually used more than hundreds of gallons of DOW and GE sealants( I have conservatively installed more than 100 miles of sealant)

    So much waste. Isn't there another solution?

      When you get well practiced you can just use less, but as a DIYer most people will end up with not enough sealant in the joint if they don't overfill and scrape back as seen in the video, and then you could end up with long term small leaks through the sealant.
