On this day in 1960 {March 5th} Johnny and the Hurricanes performed "Beatnik Fly" on the ABC-TV program 'The Saturday Night Dick Clark Beech-Nut Show'...
One month earlier on February 15th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart ; eventually it peaked at #15 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100
It was a rocking instrumental version of the 1840s song "Blue Tail Fly"
Group leader Johnny Paris, aka John Pocisk, passed away on May 1st, 2006 at age 65
R.I.P. Mr. Paris and Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}

You forgot to mention that also it hit #1 on Canada's CHUM chart March 21 but I wonder how many people other than me care about that chart and I'm not even Canadian LOL
