  • "Why wait", the Mambo by the King of Mambo, Perez Prado, is undoubtably a melody that can't be easily forgotten... Obviously, a very inspiring theme, especially in the case of the Greek director Kostas Andritsos, who used it in this scene of his movie "Έξω οι κλέφτες!" (Leave, you thieves!) of 1961. Martha Karayanni with her dance partner, Andreas Ntouzos, are dancing to it cheerfully.
Nanni Moretti was also captivated by this tune and made a memorable scene in his autobiographic film "Aprile". Already in his other autobiographic film "Caro diario", Nanni Moretti was tortured by the thought to make a film. Any film. Amongst other thoughts, he wished to narrate the story of a Trotskyist confectioner (un pasticciere trotzkista) of the '50s, in the margins of a musical. In "Aprile", at last, after a great deal of inhibitions, he achieves it!

So thrilling when they start the scene with the jukebox. Love how the camera pans from the jukebox through the dancing couples.

I always thought that this song had been recorded just for "Aprile" and I was impressed by how authentically 1950s it sounded - but now I see that it really IS from the '50s.

Thank you so much for posting this video! This is one of my favorite songs and to see it used in not one but two films makes me like it even more.
