Just got one of these. Had a moto e5 cruise and was happy with that, but needed more space and a larger screen. For the price, these Motorola phones are very good. Very happy with my new G9 play.
Cheers for this. I know a lot of people say that Motorola release too many variations each year, but I haven't upgraded since I bought my Moto G6 two years ago, so this works for me.
I bought a G9 Play after watching this review and i'm very happy with the phone. It is very big tho and only just fits in my pocket. Oh and the night mode on the camera does actually work. The G9 Play is well worth the money.
Just bought one yesterday ( from Argos for £100 ) and i'm loving this phone so much. Have finally bought a new phone as my aging Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra is getting on a bit now and major feature i love with this G9 Play is that it's not packed with a load of useless built in apps that'll never use (unlike my old Xperia was) Get in Motorola i'm so impressed.
Picked one of these up a few days ago from Argos for £99. Got to say it was an absolute steal! Phone handles great and feels well built. The 4gb ram is a nice bonus on a budget device as a lot of others in the same price bracket are rocking 2 or 3gb.
Thanks a mil for this review. You confirmed what I read elsewhere, and also that it comes with a clear case - I wasn't sure about that. So I've just placed my order on Amazon. Nearly bought the G8 instead but NFC is worth the £20 extra. Cheers!

Hi Chris. I have just bought this phone in forest green . I've had a Moto g 3rd gen for 4 years which a great phone . I was originally drawn to the Moto g8 but this came out with improved colour temperature and contrast ratio making screen quality very good despite only 720p . And the speaker / headphone quality also very good . Then add on NFC + 48 megapixel camera + night vision . What a fantastic phone ! Absolutely love it ! Thanks for your video reviews . 🙂.
Had no wait at all for Android 10 Update on my MOTO G7 Plus. For a $100 USD PHONE that was on sale immediatly from $299 - $199 then $100 in a few months it was a no brainer. I suspect the G9 will be the same.
ive had this phone 3 months and kant fault it the battery is amazing lasts so long i watch a lot of films and tv shows on it and stream them from phone to my tv all in all its a very good phone
I have an iPhone SE but have recently been looking at budget phones to replace it as the battery is quite bad with my 8 hours and 48 minutes average. I feel like I'm constantly charging it even though I keep it on low power mode. I mainly just wanted a low budget phone that can support a game like CoD Mobile as last week I spent 36 hours and eight minutes on the app. Thank you so much for your great review! it really helped with my decision making.

Macro mode depending on your job can be VERY USEFUL. Electronics engineers may need to take close up pictures of tiny areas, such as quality issues on solder joints, for instance, 0402 or even 0201 SMD components on circuit boards. It's a welcome bonus...if it works well of course! I agree though pretty useless for most people.
Very good point, I never thought of that. Usually the macro shots unfortunately can still be a bit fuzzy as the MP count is so small, but I'll bear that in mind! :)

Just bought this for my mum, she's had my old Moto G2 and Moto G3's in the past, but decided to get her a phone from new this time.. this actually cost less than what I paid for the Moto G3 and looks so much better. The electric blue colour is ace, great screen, for the money it's a quality phone. Motorola rarely miss the mark with their G series phones. Mum was complaining the battery wasn't lasting on her old phone, with this whopper inside it should last a whole day even with the amount she gasses on it! :-)

How is the filming? I heard it has no wide angle lens and I wonder if I’m able to record some descend art and craft videos for TH-cam if the camera is about 35 cm above my workspace.
Mine came with Moto Buds Charge in the box-TWS earphones that have a built in USB-C cable so you can charge them with the phone. Even been playing Fortnite on my G9 Play.
Good review, very helpful. Can you disconnect/disable the Google apps? I particularly dislike the relentless Google Assistant, and managed to disconnet it on my Moto E4 plus.

Well I be jiggered. My Moto G7 Power has only been updated to Android 10!!!! Drum roll please!!! Android 10 Security patch date 1 April 2020. My Nokia 7.2 is on Security update 1st August 2020 but let's not spoil it. A day I thought I would never see has happened. So let's rejoice in this miracle!
A year later and I'm comparing it with the TCL SE20. The Moto G9 has a faster processer, but runs on Android 10. It seems easier to get rugged cases for the Moto 9. Gah, decisions.
It's supposed to get one major Android update (but considering Motorola's track record that might never happen). This is not a Android one smartphone...
I had a G7, and while it was pretty good phone in in general, the sound recording on the video was horrible and squelchy. It sounded like it was recorded under water. I wonder if this has been addressed in the later G phones.
I easily get a full 24 hors of battery life with about 10 hour SOT on my Moto One Fusion Plus which has a 5,000 nah battery and a 1080p scree. I wonder how brilliant the battery life will be in this with the same battery capacity but a 720p screen.
The night mode quality on these phones is the thing that lets them down for me. Even though I've lost my job I'm thinking of paying the extra to get a Pixel 4a. Mind you I don't really need* a new phone until I go abroad again and that's not happening soon, so I've plenty of time to make up my mind. *"Need" being a relative term, obviously.
The 4a's camera is incredible for the price. But yeah, know what you mean, hardly seems worth having a good cameraphone when you only go as far as the shops...

Yes me too, who wants an extra button to allow Google to listen to you more easily. I've disallowed Google from accessing my G7s microphone and it complains every time I load the contacts.

I have it for about a week, but when someone passes me video through WhatsApp it comes awfully pixelated. When I shoot a video with the phone, there's no problem at all. I've tried everything possible to change the video's quality and there is no result. Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?

I've been using the G series for 5 years now currently using a G7 power and had an early G series phone before it, never had an issue with the screen, my Mum currently has my 5 year old previous model and it's still as good as new 👍
So basically Motorola brought a truck load of components released the G8 models, but for some reason had loads of parts left. Hence the G9 is largely a repeat of the same components. If you don't need NFC or 5G then there very little point getting a G9 over a G8 (with Android 10)
I'm glad Motorola comes so cheap with good camera features and other stuff. Smashing Samsung away. Not to mention the QR scanner code. Wow. I get to scan WiFi password,🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

Is the phone heavy? The 5000 mAh battery kind of puts me off due to the extra weight. I would prefer a smaller 4000mAh battery.

I'm really tempted , I'm using a Moto G7 Power now which has performed well for what I need.
It's a solid all-rounder, although brands like Realme and Xiaomi are starting to offer some seriously good rivals for about the same price

They are both very similar, even in chipset & display. However, the G9 Play has an extra 1,000 mAh.

Yeah Moto keeps pushing out there phones quickly. But the 8 is worth keeping for few years. Just upgraded from G7 to the 8.
Is it worth upgrading from Moto G5 to this or should I buy something better. What annoys me with G5 is sluggishness.

On my third moto model, currently on a G7 play. Looking to upgrade, mainly for more storage, Anyone recommend a model that is not as big as most new phones?, 6.5 inch. just that bit too much of a pocket problem. Thanks.
My mum got the G8 Power is march and seems pretty happy with it tbh.
Solid handset - these budget Moto phones are much of a muchness to be honest, pretty much all do the same thing, and will suit most users just fine

I wish these reviewers would stop talking about the chop for torch and twist for camera like those are new features. Hi they have been on the moto devices for literally YEARS!!!
