Bobby Charles, the greatest songwriter that most people haven't heard of.
Boy, have you got that right!
The pride of Abbeville, Louisiana. This might be the only footage of Bobby from back then. His Bearsville sessions are the best
There's a new feature-length documentary coming in 2021 about Bobby.
@@djd620 god I hope that this actually comes out!!
Last train to Memphis!
so good...thanks for sharing this. First time seeing Dr. John play the guitar wow.
Levon hes outstanding
I love to see Manuel on drums!
Underrated song by an amazing group
Man, these were the days! Great music coming from so many groups, I was just out of highschool...
Amazing song! LOVE IT SO MUCH👍
Thanks for this. So good.
I weep for those who dislike this. I'm just so sad for you.
a favorite!
I love everyone on that stage, but let's be real... who's the one holding it all together?
Levon, every time.
Levon was THE BEST!!! R.I.P. Levon Helm.
it's actually richard manuel on the drums, lol
They’re both playing drums. Levon is on the right.
@@Ulmanor Levon has the silkiest southern voice
@@guilirio lol
great song
"I want to get too loose, on Toulose Street,
I wanna kiss all the Creole girls I see.
Drink all day, dance all night.
Do it wrong, 'til I do it right."
Levon......Whew
Why does it say Dr. John? This was Bobby Charles' moment.
!!!
so, I guess this is the only recorded footage of Bobby performing?
🎼🎤😔🍹 💓
Clearly curious about the differences between this audio cut and the final product of The Last Waltz. Clearly this is a raw unprocessed soundboard where the final cut had overdubs and maybe audience. Cool to compare and contrast and really really happy to have. Sounds WAYY different than the final cut, especially the vocals...
There's some song in The Last Waltz film, I can't remember which, where the bass line that's there is clearly not played in the actual live video - overdubbing? YES!!!
the only person who refused to be overdubbed was Levon. He HATED the Last Waltz.
I'm pretty sure there were fiddles added and a bit more horns. Some vocals were brought up (still a little too much Levon) and so was Dr. John's Guitar.
To be honest, this sounds pretty rough and the overdubs were definitely necessary. Maybe they didn't practice it very much. In fact, based on the fact that Bobby Charles doesn't seem to know which mike to use, maybe they didn't practice it at all.
@@justfelix6171 There's mandolin on the final cut as well.
Good bye Mac..
I have the Spotify version of this song and it sounds excellent but a bit different.
i noticed that too! i feel like the overdubbed violin after the fact?
There was a LOT of overdubbing on the soundtrack release. Their playing wasn’t quite up to snuff on a lot of it. Granted, The Band played for roughly 5 1/2 hours, but listen to the soundboard version of Dont Do It. Yikes.
Also, Richard was VERY hit and miss. While Georgia was incredible (if his voice hadn’t cracked on the final “Georgia”, I’d have called it his best performance that I’ve ever heard), he really fell down on King Harvest, forgetting two entire lines even after Levon fed him. It’s really bad. He almost forgot the same two lines in the rehearsal version that you can find on TH-cam.
Why's there no statues of the guy who wrote "See You Later Alligater"?
Dr.ジョンも居たんだ!such a nightだけで引っ込んでたのかと思った。この曲演奏のMVPはリヴォンのドラムスとガースのアコーディオンかな
it is criminal that this great song by a brilliant songwriter was not included in the Last waltz while the totally irrelevant, redundant and inappropriate inclusion of Neil Diamond(self indulgence of Robbie Robertson!!)
Yah, the Neil Diamond bit was so out of place. Robbie was kinda running the show, to the detriment of others.
it was
@eric lewis You have to remember that Neil Diamond’s lagging 1970’s career was Robbie’s pet project at the time. Robbie had basically brainstormed and produced Diamond’s “Beautiful Noise” album, and was sort of continuing the momentum by including him in this all-star cast. I don’t think it was only a fluke. It should also be remembered that Neil was still a highly respected songwriter among these musicians, not just to Robertson but to Dylan and Mitchell, among others on stage.
Dint know which Last Waltz you watched sure was in my version.
They did include Dr. John. Malcolm John Rebennack Jr.
In the late 1970s, a South Korean singer, Cho Young-nam(조영남), sang a song titled "Sapdari(삽다리, Sapkyo, at Southern Chuncheong Province)."
I love Levon, but someone could have mixed his vocal down a bit on this one.
Too much Levon? Sir, such a thing doesn't exist.
WHAT? It’s called a strong voice...I’m unsure BUT I don’t think in 1970 they could make his one mic louder.
Look at him, HES ALWAYS hollering/sAngin’ into the mic. Everyone else is moving around and not stationary.
ROTFLMAO...
Add more COWBELL, that's what CHRISTOPHER WALKEN would say...!
Never too much LEVON, turn up the others, music coming thru strong. 👍
Is this in 3/4 time (signature)?
no, its 4/4
