Just bouncing around the youtube, drinking some wine and remembering Levon Helm through his music. And then I stumbled upon this fantastic video. It's music like this makes me mourn his passing and at the same time the same thing that brings joy to my soul.
Levon, Rick & Richard shine with the stars as you three did for us down here.... I'm sure it's gonna be one heck of reunion for you three. You will be missed dearly...
Awww...these guys..I honestly had to scroll down as my eyes were just filling up looking at that photo while listening. I'll bet they're up there now singing and playing away with Richard Manuel..and with an enthralled audience of angels!
This is by far my favorite. very soulful voices. brings a tear to my eye. just happy that youtube has hard to find performances like this. hadn't heard this recording since my grandma passed away in 2000. this song still chokes me all up.
kudos to that, and let the music of the band ring out forever, over the mountains, into the valleys, out thruogh the oceans,to another generation,up to heaven,to all the great musicians who were, are, and are to be.RIP,Rick,RIchard,Levon, and all the others who are jamming with them in the sky
Check out my tune "Levon Helm" here, I wrote for my dear friend after his passing. When Rick passed it was Levon who called me at 8:45 with the sad news and he came by my place nearby, I can't tell you what great friends these guys were to have, tears well up just think of them..
G'Day OneMattyMatt, it is certainly a sad time at the moment, losing Richard and Rick was so hard to accept and now the loss of Levon has really hit me hard, he was such an honest man and his integrity was beyond reproach, thankfully we have so many memories to hold on to, thanks a lot for sharing this one.
We lost Levon one year ago today. I saw him and Rick in this format in '83 on this same "Living Room Tour", as they called it, and it was the most beautiful and relaxed format I'd ever seen. From 2004 till last year I had the privilege of attending many Rambles at The Barn. Tonight I'll go to see the LHB with Garth Hudson playing the music of The Band in Tarrytown. Another celebration of this beautiful stuff, "Catch it while you can".
5 guys made awesome music together ,,i loved them all ,,Rick and Levon ,,i miss you so much ,,the crap that,s out there ,i would not waste my time listening too....
I worked at The Joyous Lake in Woodstock in the late '70s and got to hear all the great live music. Levon Helm and Rick Danko were regular performers there. Hard to describe how they were just so much a part of Woodstock at that time and the cool scene. It was a magical moment in time. So sad to see yet another legend go. Can't go back and recapture that magic ever again.
It depends on what your parents listen to.. My kids were lucky. Their Dad and I, listened to alot of great music from the 1960 until present!! They are adults now. and can pick what they like. At least they had a good begining..
saw rick's last show before he left us....special night...he played sooo well, although the effort it took was obvious, he played "java blues" just for me, and bantered between songs. He played some Hebrew music that was technically crazy good...what talent...RIP both gentlemen...we miss you both deeply
he died in 1999....what year did you see him. So talented. I guess the stress of the road leads down the path of destruction. Richard was an alcoholic by age 13.
Sounds good back here...I think I'll go down to that Maritime way, Evangeline Trail... More pure than gold was their musical collabortation... Too bad Robertson, Hudson, Bobby, the rest of the dirt farmers are all grieving and also lovingly remembering these two wonderful people!
the show (audio) can also be downloaded from the bt.etree (dot org) site. it's a website for artists that allow their live shows to be traded. if people don't know how to use a torrent site, there are instructions in their faq page. lots of great music on there.
hi, I was pleased reading ur commt... ure right, there still is a lot of good music around incl. AC/DC and they´re not really new... I probably shouldnt do this but I´d love to recommend BobDylans "freewheeling" album and "times are a changing" with "restless farewell" & "ballad of hollis brown" on it.. since I´m part Irish but live in germany u also may want to listen to The Pogues... best regards...
Rick Danko is just so damn good. Just perfect harmony.
I cant watch these guys without feeling the pangs of their loss. It literally brings tears to my eyes.
My brother and I loved the Band, Levon Helm ,so now when I hear them takes me back, and better times RIP BRO

Bittersweet raw and honest.

The chemistry between these 2 is pure magic. What I would have given to meet them
Me too Jen Moore!
Although I am about their age I never had the opportunity!
The impossible sadness is that we will never again be able to touch them. The tireless beauty is that their voices will live forever.
Absolutely amazing!!Thanks for all the wonderful music you guys gave to us!!RIP!!

Two fine musicians who left their footprints in the history of music all over the world.
My older brother had a lot of album's, first time I heard music from big pink I was hooked, it was 42 years ago,
Brings happiness to my heart to hear these two singing together. Thanks for posting this!

These guys will have a place in my heart and mind forever.
We were lucky enough to see these two the same year, in Hudson, NY. What an unbelievable show. RIP Rick..
RIP Levon, when you go -- go in peace. Here's to the heartbeat and backbone of the greatest band to ever grace the earth, The Band.
The best musicians/singers/entertainers that I have ever had the pleasure to see. God rest their souls.
Happy Thanksgiving! These two, greatest singers of all time - especially together - must be missing each other. Love them both
Two of the greatest voices in music history......
What magic you were a part of. Those days are long gone now, but you've got 'em in your heart and mind. God bless....
Just such simple beautiful playing and singing.
Levon Helm, You will be missed! Thank you for the music!
Thank You So Much for Your Comments, I have tears in my eyes for Levon and Joy in my Heart after reading your Post, May God Bless Levon and Family!!!!
Levon is one of the few musicians in the whole wide world I'd be honored to meet. Our roots are very closely related.
I am from Louisiana so i can so relate.

enjoy ur new meeting with Rick, Levon. I wish i was there.
This is now my favorite version of Evangeline. Brilliant!
It's good, but nothing beats the version with Emmylou Harris, all voices, Rick's, Levon's and especially Emmylou's are just so pure and perfect.

A tragic loss indeed! Very sad. He was a hero in so many ways.
I love these shows with Levon & Rick! Had only heard the songs from Eugene up til now. Thanks for posting!!

Naming my future daughter Evangeline and future son Levon. Down south here in New Orleans, they shouldn't get made of fun too much ;)

Levon is still with us, ya'll. You act like he's gone!? Missing these harmonies though...

Can't we bring back the days of real music and not auto tone electric drum line shit we have today. RIP Rick, Richard, Levon and Bobby.
+mcaddicts haha it's apples and oranges man. There's magic in all types, really. They're shooting for different things.
Still out there if you look for it.
I love this!!! ... the vocal strength of The Band carrying on without Robbie ... thanks OneMatt

This to me is Americana- captures feeling somewhere in between U.S. Frontier and Mark Twain...

And somewhere across the country in Pennsylvania I was born that very night
Good bye R.I.P :( QC
