Interview with Sashimani Mahari Devi Dasi in Puri on 22 Aug 2004.
I was asked to come and film an interview with the Devi Dasi. On the way, the interviewer (who spoke Hindi & Bengali) did not come so I had to do the interview myself with no preparation. She was kind enough to sit and speak with us for over an hour, but we not talk freely due to difficulties with translation. She insisted on my daughter sitting next to her for the interview, and she spoke freely about her life and sang very beautifully for us. We were all touched by her grace and dignity & I had the feeling that we could have filled 100 tapes with her recollections and memories of the spiritual history of Jagannath Puri. Please correct Devi Dasi to Devadasi ('female servitor of God'; Debadasi in Odia) in the description. However, the term 'Mahari' has been more popular in Odisha for many centuries.

They are following bengali version of odia culture so they are saying debidasi like benguli

It isn't Bengali either. Bengalis say Debdashi. But I'm not sure if Bengal actually had the tradition in recent past.
