Matiss came to Minnesota when he was only 17 to try with hopes to one day play in the nhl. He was easily the best I ever got to play against and it was an honor to know him. He was so humble. He didn't think he didn't have an ego. When the all star game happened for our league, he was surprised that other goalies knew who he was. We all knee he was special. He worked so hard to get to the nhl and when I saw he had made it, I was cheering him on. The seattle expansion draft was set to happen just a couple of weeks later, before his passing it was pretty much all but confirmed he was going to seattle to battle for the starting spot. If that would have happened, he would be in the net right now as I'm typing this as seattle is in the playoffs. He was so good. I haven't been able to go to a fireworks show since because every 4th of july I just sit at home thinking about him. R.i.p. Kivi.
