Just so nobody repeats this, the photo of the 2nd accident is a shot from the movie “Speed 2: Cruise Control”. IH couldn’t find a picture of said accident.
he was probably buddies with some higher up in the company to land that job, there is no way he would still be captain after 2 fuck ups he had previously. And that's why it's bad to hire your friends to such a significant position (unless you are sure of his capabilities), you don't want somebody incompetent responsible 500 million dollar ship + 1000 passengers
Training captains is expensive, accidents happen and none of the accidents before were serious or expensive, Usually when minor accidents happen they do retrain the crew but I wouldn't be surprised if Costa never did this.
Just FYI, the second crash picture is not real, it's from a movie. IH actually put a disclaimer on that picture, but it is too small and very few reactors notice it. According to a reactor called SailorVince, who has experience as a coastal guard, accidents in a harbor are quite frequent and not always the captain's fault. You might just have a bad wind blast and the ship hits something. This is not systematically ground for firing the captain. As for why he "mysteriously rose from head of security", SailorVince had to check that info, and it was true, but with a caveat: there are many people who study to become a captain, but not enough captain positions, so a lot of would-be captains choose lower positions in the company they want to work with and wait for an opportunity, which was the case here. He had all the qualifications. In some ways, it was a bit unfair to throw all the culpability on him, when he was not the only one royally screwing up. The guy steering the ship and the woman giving up-to-date coordinates should have done their job, even the compay the captain was working for set themselves for a disaster because of greed and wanting to reduce costs. You could even argue that the industry of cruise ships is partly to blame because the engines shouldn't be so low and at risk of water getting in, but the casinors, theaters and all the rest have to be at the top. But on the other hand, the captain is the ultimate authority on the ship. He shouldn't have sailed that fast, he shouldn't have been so careless, he shouldn't have lied to authorities, or endangered any of the crew like he did, or abandonned ship, he should have helped with the rescue operation... Internet Historian made a follow-up video to correct a couple mistakes and clarify things. IIRC the captain didn't do this deviation for his own ego, but to please a friend on the bridge whose relative lived on the island. I also recommend watching SailorVince's reaction because it adds a ton of context.
there is another intresting story but this one nobody lost their life, Its The MTS OCEANOS Mar.6 1991. The entertainment staff were the heroes of this story. off South Africa
A lot of people like to place the entire blame on the Captain, and while his actions after the crash weren't exactly commendable, I don't think the entire incident can be placed on the Captain. Before the crash multiple people in the bridge weren't doing their jobs properly. The helmsman wasn't following orders properly due to a language barrier, the 3rd officer wasn't doing their job and keeping the Captain informed of their exact position like they were supposed to and the 1st officer was adding confusion to the helmsman regarding the Captain's exact order. It's not the Captain's job to tell his crew how to do their jobs, and ultimately the Captain COULD have salvaged the situation if it wasn't for the helmsman's mistake at the last second which not only guaranteed that the ship would crash but also most likely made the crash worse than it could have been. All I'm saying is that if everyone on the bridge was DOING THEIR JOB then this whole incident wouldn't have happened and even if it did, if the helmsman hadn't made that last mistake they could have avoided a crash and kept going like nothing happened.
@@BipolarBLKSheep No this guy's right. The captain obviously made very bad decisions and all in all is a pretty bad guy, but a lot of the crew weren't really helping much either especially the third officer
Though I used to watch your channel in its hay day, I cant help but feel pity for you both. Ash is not happy in her own skin (hence the extensive cosmetic work) and Jon is a cuck. Im happy that you both continue on, I wish the best for you both, but Ash has become a bimbo, and Jon seems genuinely unhappy. I know this will be ignored due to self esteem issues on Ashtyn's part, but there is much soul searching to be done for you both.

Italian corruption in business and politics are quite legendary at this point.

They also hired a guy who doesn't speak a language they understand, and has never been in a boat before.

He is ultimately the one with all the responsiblity, the Captain should also impose the procedures to any crew member that is not following them.

there is quite a bit of other stories too. MV SEWOL (2014) and MV Dona Paz (1987)
