    I use yED for everything from ER diagrams, tree diagrams, flow charts and more. It's sophisticated yet easy to use, but often times I find selecting a label in an element (and then try moving it around by dragging-and-dropping) tricky. That's because you often end up selecting the actual element and not the label inside the element.

    Great tutorial, and I can say with confidence that it really works as shown. I just made a flowchart today that looks way better than anything I've done in Visio or Gliffy recently.

    thanks, but how do you end an arrow on another arrow instead of a node?

  • @yWorksTube
    @yWorksTube  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    -- Thank you for your feedback!
    Yes, that's possible. You can add custom nodes to the Palette and drag them from there.
    See the section "Use a Graph Element as a Sample" in the yEd Manual:
    yed.yworks.com/support/manual/properties.html
    More answers can be found in the yEd Q&A forum: yed.yworks.com/support/qa/
    The yEd Q&A is the best place for everything yEd.
    Enjoy yEd!

    @runeseeker1000 -- Thank you for feedback!
    It's true, you're not required to give your email address, and it's still free! :-).
    To get informed about updates, you can configure yEd to check for updates on application start-up (see File > Preferences... > General tab), or you can manually initiate this check (see Help > Check for Update...).
    Enjoy yEd!

    This is an excellent program! I have used Windows Visio and Freemind before, but Visio was not as easy-to-use as yED and freemind was no good for creating flowcharts (as it is more directed towards mindmaps). yED can do all of that and is free of charge. The grid and snap angle functions are easy, but make working with it so clean, I love it!
    Is there a way to generally change the color layout of the nodes, so when they are dragged into the chart they immediately have a certain style?

  • @thyagtubes
    @thyagtubes 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've not used yed, but looks like a great tool. And this presentation is awesome.
    One question : Does it support the "dot" language for visualizing graphs?

  • @ralienpp
    @ralienpp 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice overview. Would it be possible to add a feature that causes the nodes to resize automatically if the text in them is long?
    In this demo you've resized it by hand, can that part could be automated?

    • @yWorksTube
      @yWorksTube  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your questions.
      Yes, nodes can also resize automatically to accommodate their text.

    Please, can you do a videotutorial showing how to import data from excell to place connections? I'd like to connect: Mary with John with Joseph with Frank
    May I enter that in a single row from Excell? if you could make a videotutorial covering this, would be grateful.

  • @yWorksTube
    @yWorksTube  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @thyagtubes -- Thank you for your feedback!
    yEd has no direct support for the "dot" language, however, you can convert "dot" files to GraphML files, which you can then open with yEd.
    You can find the link to a Python script to do so in the yEd Q&A forum: yed.yworks.com/support/qa/
    (Simply search for "dot" using the search field.)
    The yEd Q&A is the best place for everything yEd.
    Enjoy yEd!

    Is there any way to change the default color for labels to make a dark background more usable?

    • @yWorksTube
      @yWorksTube  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi!
      Yes, there is. Create a custom node representations that uses your choice of label background color and add it to your new user-defined palette section. Now make that node your default node representation by double-clicking it. Voilà.
      See the yEd manual for the details:
      yed.yworks.com/support/manual/palette.html ('User-defined Sections', 'Adding Sample Representations to User-defined Palette Sections', 'Setting Defaults')

      After you're finished editing, you can either export it as a picture (PNG, ...) or select all, right-click on free space to open the context menu and select "copy to system clipboard" and paste it into your Word file.
