Samuel Winslett was also my 5th great grandfather, and Jonathon my 4th great grandfather. I did my own research, however, and came to the same conclusions. Samuel became a soldier in the Revolutionary War and quite a man of substance in America.
It's cool that the king gave her ancestors mercy. He probably looked at their circumstances and thought it best to give the brothers another chance
Sad, they were orphans the brothers had no choice. They were just trying to survive without parents. :(
They were HUNGRY
Is Trisha related to Kate Winslet

HaMaGaaad !!! I wished mine waa as beautiful as that.
Yea I get that. My Grandfather had the most beautiful penmanship I have ever seen. Old school training!
Many such people either poached or died of starvation btw.
A classic example of the uk aristocracy removing what contemporary people called the scum layer (a reference to foam on top of open beer fermenter kettles) from their society. His years of labor generated income for the king. Total economic slavery by today's standards and also an example of how the colonies were for profit prisons for many who immigrated there.
back then the aristocrats owned everything, treated everybody else like slaves, he was probably just trying to feed his family
Nothin' much has changed, huh? Other than now too many people can go from one crummy job to the next and scrape by to feed their families.
Himself- I dont think he HAD a family at 14
So her ancestor was a convict. The Australians would consider that as a badge of honor now.

It's interesting that his 14 year sentece was commuted, and to add to that, given land to boot. Kind of odd in my opinion.
She looked different when she was in England.

@@drowningincats3921 no they weren't cheating with each other. They didn't hook up until both of them were divorced. He even spoke about it on his biography on Hulu or Netflix

Different spelling, although that doesn't rule it out, though. She *is* related to me, though! Samuel Winslett is my great, great, great, great grandfather
