A trick to get more training pre season as a semi pro team is wait until 3pm or later on a Saturday then schedual a friendly for Sunday. That way you get to train Saturday too. If you make the friendly before that you miss all training Saturday.
For Tactical Familiarity I would think playing 42 matches in the league and another 18 or so across various cups in the real low leagues should be enough to get your players familiar with your Tactic. So the very limited number of training sessions available to these part-time/amateur teams and players I tend to leave to the staff to handle and make sure I’m not going to break the players with too much intensity and stuff.
If you train on tuesday, thursday and saturday, just put a friendly against a nearby team on wednesday for the reserves to catch up some sharpness and tactical familiarity. The training on both week days, 1 teamwork, 1 match tactics, 1 defensive shape, 1 attacking movement. When they complain, 2 weeks of overall + Team cohesion. Tadah

been using this tactic on FM21 (y'know, before defensive was cool) and can confirm it's really good (step 13 to championship). would recommend using super quick false 9s as the two wide forwards with "stay wider" ticked. false 9s have been the best ball carriers i've found, help out defensively and still get in the box. also, set the battering ram in the middle to a poacher so he's always on the last shoulder. had some success with DLF(att) and pressing forwards(sup/def) in the middle too but often they're not on the end of things enough. yet to properly test an advanced forward but that might be the switch moving into the prem. also, make a 2nd tactic and throw a cb up top in a gung-ho 4-2-4 👌
I kind of lucked into this same basic approach, but in a 4-4-2 to get out of the VNS with St. Albans in one season. Great breakdown. Cool to see why it worked!
Although the tactic seems like it does well, it's probably having players with the important attributes for the lower leagues doing most of the work here. You can tell your team to play tiki-taka possession football and absolutely dominate the league. I always struggle to get immersed into the lower leagues because there's just no simulation for the fact that teams relying on non-contract players should not be able to pull-off prime Barcelona total football. You can't play like that irl even as high up as the Championship (see Reading under Jaap Stam, 2018).
Meanwhile all I ever do for tactics is select vertical tiki taka, select 4231 & change roles. Only tactic I ever use & works great every time in every game regardless of what team I’m managing. Game does majority of the work for you.
I'm playing a game with AFC Telford. It's going well, but the biggest problem with most tactics people play is that they're all max intensity and lower league teams just don't have the squad depth/fitness to handle that.
Find free transfers for players that are between 18-21 years old. A lot of them will sign non-contracts so if they don’t play then you don’t use wages and can save money. Great way to add depth. I’ve done it with Taunton and I’m top of the league in my first year with some players on appearance fees as low as £20p/w
This tactic is working for me in the 8th tier. I supplement it with similar structure tactics from FM Arena, Cross Fixed SP and ZaZ Earth 2.0 with wingers.
I'm Bermondsey Town in the Southern Counties East Division One (Level 10). My tactic is super simple for the same reason you highlighted - I play a 4-4-2, pass into space, regroup, counter, medium press and stay on feet! That's it ... I don't complicate things and it works! I do add various instructions during the match, but even those are used sparingly!
My 8th tier save with St Neots was going so well... Was expected to fight avoid relegation. By mid December I was top of the league, 5 points clear. I have no idea what happened and all of a sudden in 6 games I lost 3, drew 2 and won 1. Searched everywhere for something to save my title hopes! Found this and went 1-0 up within 5 mins and 65 mins 2-0 up, I was buzzing... Then a player got sent off and all of a sudden, by the 85th minute we concede a penalty and I'm now 4-2 down, raging and no idea where my season has gone wrong. I hate thia god damn game
Lower league tactics don't always look like this 😩. I've been using a treq, libero, SV and regista and managed to over perform in the 9th tier of England 🤘

It's my 3rd season at a semi-pro club. First of all, all the tips in this video are very helpful for the first season. But then, you'll get the tactical familarity after around 40 matches. And if you have at least two midfielders with 10+ playmaking attributes (passing, vision etc.), I recommend you to try building a possesion tactic. It creates a great advantage against low-quality defs in these lower leagues.
I was struggling with away form, though my young team is in the play off places, changed to this tactic won 3-0 never looked like conceding you hirsute hero you.
Thing I do is overload my pre-season with 6 to 9 games to get them tactical familiar with what I want to see. Rest of the season we do some overall, quickness and set piece training. Then I put in recovery training sessions (you need physio for it) followed by teamwork or team bonding session. So far it works we had 2 draws 11 wins cups and league combined before getting a first defeat of the season.
2:19 Even if you're not professional, like I am with Chesthunt (same league as Z) I got it maxed out apart from position / role / duty because I sue a couple of players outside their "best" role. I'm 6 games in the 2nd season but I dunno how far back I achieved the 100% familiarity, so it's not about professional status; even training 2 days a week gets you there :)
It also works for older versions of FM. But be aware then that your defence line is not lower than standard other wise your facing a lot of goals from distance.
This tactic sounds like the last 15 minutes of the normal 90 played by Netherlands against Argentina a few days ago in their RO16 match of WC2022. Not knocking the Hollanders, it just reminded me of the tall forwards who came on as late subs and then the early crosses and aerial ball winning which eventually made a goal and then a creative free kick for the second. That creative free kick will probably not happen in the lower leagues though.
Thanks Z - nice to have a new tips video! Any chance of a new/updated one on scouting for FM23 especially on how to get the best out of recruitment focuses etc.
Set one of those strikers to play as a deep-lying forward and tada, you got Louis van Gaal's Dutch setup. I don't know how to feel about this, but it is what it is.
I think personality and age is key for lower leagues. I always play as plymouth or torquay, and look to offload negative mentalities and bring in determined or professional and make sure there's a couple players 30+ . Can usually get back to back promotions with same quality players, got to prem with league 1 level players
what tactic do you recommend when no tactic works? my players absolutely suck no matter what I do... this tactic worked pretty good for a couple games and then my team implodes :(
I found in the vanarama national after promotion CB's need high strength and jumping reach over anything else. I was being bullied to a mid table finish. now I have Goal difference of 60! constantly winning by 3 or more in the 3rd season. (eat that wrexham with your hollywood budget. Enjoy the playoffs again!) Just need to be a full time club. sky bet div 2 is gonna be hard.
I've been running a 433 since Championship Manager 21. The game has never been able to handle 3 strikers. I'm shocked its taken Zealand this long to do it. The very negative 7 at the back isn't needed.
I found Marcus Dackers wo is a little more expensive 200kUSD for me. . Guy scored 48 league goals, 6'7, 205 pounds, and 20 jump reac. I alread tried to implement it!
4 3 3 works fine. 1 Dm 2 cm 1 bbm 1 cm on att. Only the 4231 causes this a problem in that case u just put 2 dm and 1 cm and your sorted. Thanks for the content cant wait for The Peacock's to make a long awaited return.
I recently had a Vanarama north save go horribly, horribly wrong after I tried to implement the tactics that had helped me crush the Asian leagues and middle-tier European ones. The problem was, exactly as Zealand describes, a lack of intelligence in following the tactic. Although I superficially got familiarity in the tactic, the reality was that players really, really struggled not to run into each other, and the triangles and squares that made them work just collapsed as DLPs and Wingers flooded into the box, awaiting a cross from a wingback who didn't exist. I also did myself no favours whatsoever by - having lost my star DLF for 5 months before the season started - picking up a supremely ineffective 37 year-old replacement. As per the video, he could pass, shoot, dribble and do most anything other than actually get the ball at his feet - because physicals.
I use a different formation, but I'm trying to do the same thing. Using three forwards has been gold since FM20. Now, I'm setting up for a way more attacking flat and narrow 4-3-3. But the idea is the same. Long balls, pass to space, early crosses. Basically, bomb the ball up as fast as possible. I will let some goals in, but I'm scoring an average of 3 goals per game - on all levels in all countries.
You my friend are a master, like joda or Mr mehaghi. I just DEstroyyyyed a serie a team with a bunch of 'pesnuts' that expect to be relegated end season is serie b.
I use the same tactic for every team I played for now, 4-3-3 (4-1-2-2-1) full gegenpress on cautious and it's a slaughter. I tried a lot of team in low rep european countries, in Romania I managed to win the cup and win the 2nd division the first year with the worst team of the league... Even made groupe stage in Conference ( because of my Cup win), beating Molde on the way who were far better than my team ! For experiment, I got back on the days prior to the Molde game and run it 5 times to see the odds, won 3 draw 1 lost 1. I tried that in Finland, Latvia, Hungary, and many others... And since the fix on defenders, I take less and less goals. I don't know what to say after more than 300 hours, the game feels good to play but the ME is making me crazy sometimes, I like the chaos but some "out of nowhere" stuffs are making me feels something is missing for now, hope to see some additional fix in the future.
Bodies do matter, but I noticed defense in lower league, despite physical stats, is still terrible. I had 3 big defenders stare blankly at a floated header that went inside my net headed by a small winger playing as AF with 4 heading and 5 finishing. Volume of chances triumphs. Eventually their defense will make a terrible mistake and their clears will most often find nothing, and when they do find a forward they will fail their dribble most likely. If you can find one decent target man, go for it and unload those floated crosses relentlessly. When the ball goes high it neither needs to be as accurate, nor does off the ball mean much. They all know where it's going, but only the strongest can get to it first. Lower league clears from defense are so bad it creates some of your best chances to score as you regain the ball right in front of their box. A back 5 does well, but I think it's because of the extra large body for set peaces. There will be a lot on either side. Fouls non stop. In a league with no mentals and zero composure the best thing is to lose the ball towards the enemy goal ASAP.
Tip: As soon as you can, request a new contract and set your salary and bonuses as low as possible. You don’t need virtual money and 20-30k extra payroll is so valuable especially in lower leagues. 🤓
I started with this, this just now tweaked it to run a 6-1-3. Basically the same premise, just 4 at the back instead of 3. It's still the same suggested personnel, just fewer dudes in the middle. Am I asking for trouble? In general, I love this kind of simplified formation. At the minute, my defense is ok, but I still can't score much.
I won the CL from Vanarama within 15 years with Chester with 5-2-3 😂 I cba do create another tactic so I only used this and never had to change anything not even within games
Probably a dumb question but in your out of possession instruction I see you have stuff like mid block and drop off more. And I can't find where I add that instruction
go high tempo ,high press ,much more often closing down, tight marking on all of your players and enjoy.I accept tips.Unfortunately still a plug an play
tactic in lower league is funny sometimes, I set TI to distribute to flanks and throw it long, i watched most of my games and my gk always kicking in middle no matter if someone is there or not
I thought probably add a bit more, im playing as blyth and got promoted first season, second season ive struggled to sign anyone decent, results have been iffy and im expected to finish bottom. Following this video my results had taken a dive off the cliff. Im now using my old tactic, direct pressing football, 4 at the back 1 as an achor 2 bbms and 2 dlf with 1 poacher. Now just hope to survive.
Wrong. Playing with Dorking in the Vanarama National League we are part time. I took control of individual training and trained every player for there main position including subs. I have a full tactical familiarity bar and I got to the 1st round on the FA Cup and played against Tottenham. We lost 1 nil and gained 1.5million in ticket sales which I was able to sar far invest in training facilities, youth level and a tasty 350k transfer budget. I use 433 DM Wide. SK, LWB, CD, BPD, RWB, DLP, Mezzala, AP, IW, IF, TF/AF.
Edit....We use Control Possession, and so far in the league our defensive record is quite good. Had a few bad injuries and lost a tiny bit of form but every player seems to be developing very well. I also focused alot of effort in getting staff with decent attributes and its working.
Playing as Eastleigh, don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong but I'm getting battered trying this tactic. I just lost 8-3, 75% of the season through...I'm not too sure on this one big guy XD
Thank you for making this. Had a lot of success in lower league saves using something similar. When would you recommend moving away from this tactic? Is your older video that had a four four two diamond (sorta) still valid in FM 23?
im in the 10th level of english fooball at ashton town. im struggling to get a tactic that works. i feel like ive tried everything. is this available to download anywhere? im playing on gamepass so steam is no good
Dude... This is almost unfair. I paired this with the level 11 mod, and took the Kintbury Rangers. With some dropping of lower skilled players, and some decent recruiting (if I say so myself), I'm now 24 goals for, 2 against, after 4 friendlies... Those two against were scored by my under 21 squad in the first friendly the 2nd day of the preseason, using a similar tactic.
Oh my good god. I have come here to just bow at the feet of The Peacock. This tactic is absolutely DISGUSTING. I added "distribute over opposition defence" and my Hastings United side are laying WASTE to the Isthmian Prem!!!! (Level 10 database loaded FYI) Genuinely, don't even know whose playing in the back 7, signed 3 strikers and just went for it. Top of the league after 10 games. I shall try and remember to report back! This tactic is so horrible it makes The Crazy Gang and Stoke look like Barcelona, and I'm here for it. THANK YOU!!!
I'm surprised. I was expecting some kind of Sean Dyche no nonsense route one 4-4-2 cross and inshallah and I was blown away. A tactical masterclass, as usual.

This is very funny as it's basically Wycombe Wanderers in real life
I've been running a 433 since Championship Manager 21. The game has never been able to handle 3 strikers. I'm shocked its taken Zealand this long to do it. The very negative 7 at the back isn't needed.
Oh lawd it's an FM23 video!
I needed this
I recently had a Vanarama north save go horribly, horribly wrong after I tried to implement the tactics that had helped me crush the Asian leagues and middle-tier European ones.
This comes at the right time, I‘m fighting for my life in the third northern irish division with Portstewart
Nice place
I use a different formation, but I'm trying to do the same thing. Using three forwards has been gold since FM20.
Now, I'm setting up for a way more attacking flat and narrow 4-3-3. But the idea is the same. Long balls, pass to space, early crosses. Basically, bomb the ball up as fast as possible.
I will let some goals in, but I'm scoring an average of 3 goals per game - on all levels in all countries.
You my friend are a master, like joda or Mr mehaghi. I just DEstroyyyyed a serie a team with a bunch of 'pesnuts' that expect to be relegated end season is serie b.
dear zealand, can you put a link to your tactic in the description, that would be very helpful, thank you
yes this would help a lot as I am not playing on Steam
I got through all lower divisions by hoofballing it to 6'5 Luca Wollschläger.
Love the fact you picked a mighty sky blue player
"You click-baiting monster!!!" LOL
In a league with no mentals and zero composure the best thing is to lose the ball towards the enemy goal ASAP.
keep it simple in the lower leagues, simple 4-2-3-1 in the Welsh Premier works for me with not many instructions
FM22, Journeyman. No wonder my Tactical Familiarity never reach full.
That yb type beat over the manscape ad goes so hard 😭😭😭😭
How does he get his midfielders so low on the pitch in the formation??
When I select 343 they are way higher up, even when I put them on defensive..
Tip: As soon as you can, request a new contract and set your salary and bonuses as low as possible. You don’t need virtual money and 20-30k extra payroll is so valuable especially in lower leagues. 🤓
Tried this tactic with Mansfield in FM20, got absolutely smashed lmao
Harrison Nee?
Naw, that young man is HAIR-i-son Nee!
Fav youtuber.
433 with 3 trequartista upfront doesn't work?
My eyes, the kit numbers. It’s like something from Serie A 😂😩
I started with this, this just now tweaked it to run a 6-1-3. Basically the same premise, just 4 at the back instead of 3. It's still the same suggested personnel, just fewer dudes in the middle. Am I asking for trouble?
In general, I love this kind of simplified formation. At the minute, my defense is ok, but I still can't score much.
You answered your own question. You're screwing yourself offensively. Not enough supporting the attack.
THIS IS WWWK WHEN WE WERE KINGS PODCAST INTRO BIG UP ERIK NIVA LYSNA PÅ PODCASTEN OM DU ÄR SVENSK
go high tempo ,high press ,much more often closing down, tight marking on all of your players and enjoy.I accept tips.Unfortunately still a plug an play
A lower league Antonio Conte system 👀
tactic in lower league is funny sometimes, I set TI to distribute to flanks and throw it long, i watched most of my games and my gk always kicking in middle no matter if someone is there or not
Started in the 13th tier - the 3rd level of Liverpool amateur football.
Is there no player instructions?
12 lost in a row using this tactic, im going back to 4123 route one.
Now just hope to survive.
life saving more like life destroying
My fav moments in your vids is getting sucked into a line and you turn it into an ad. Not sarcasm.
hey there Z, why is the right defender a CD, an not an NCD? Love your "in physical form" series at Taunton, by the way. Cheers
Playing as Eastleigh, don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong but I'm getting battered trying this tactic. I just lost 8-3, 75% of the season through...I'm not too sure on this one big guy XD
Invade y’all didn’t know nick McCootie is literally the greatest player of all time 11:18
Would this work on fm 24 in bundesliga 3?
Thank you for making this. Had a lot of success in lower league saves using something similar. When would you recommend moving away from this tactic? Is your older video that had a four four two diamond (sorta) still valid in FM 23?
im in the 10th level of english fooball at ashton town. im struggling to get a tactic that works. i feel like ive tried everything. is this available to download anywhere? im playing on gamepass so steam is no good
How would you tweak this tactic for the premier league?
What's up with the jersey number? (I haven't followed the new stream)
I have just tried it and it was pretty bad for me, I won 3 promotions on a roll using the 4.2.3.1, typical but it worked. The video was fun though.
I am now interested how this works in the premier league /Champions League😂
Oh my good god.
I have come here to just bow at the feet of The Peacock. This tactic is absolutely DISGUSTING.
I added "distribute over opposition defence" and my Hastings United side are laying WASTE to the Isthmian Prem!!!! (Level 10 database loaded FYI)
Genuinely, don't even know whose playing in the back 7, signed 3 strikers and just went for it. Top of the league after 10 games. I shall try and remember to report back!
This tactic is so horrible it makes The Crazy Gang and Stoke look like Barcelona, and I'm here for it.
THANK YOU!!!
I love a save in the vanarama south
Is there any player instructions?
I'm curious on how would this tactic perform in an elite Club, like chelsea or Man Utd
narrow 433 gegenpress is another way to get out of that league, any tactic with 3 strikers will do it
I'm surprised. I was expecting some kind of Sean Dyche no nonsense route one 4-4-2 cross and inshallah and I was blown away. A tactical masterclass, as usual.
insha'Allah is crazy ☠️
I cringed so hard at the intro, i couldn't watch it i had to skip, it was the voice and the face you was making. iv never felt that feeling before damn I'm just glad i was alone when i chose to play the video phew. damn i feel weird
Can this tactics be download into my save ?
Ah yes, the typical non league strategy for decades, in the shape that 75% of ai managers use. Glad to see you playing as one of my local teams though! Good luck!
McCooooooooooootiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeee!
tried your formation 3-0 up 1 striker sent off lost on pens play with dumbarton but only my 2nd game
