Wet felting is infinitely more fun than needle felting, and this cape turned out SO CUTE! I am slowly become a rock in the forest covered in moss and living my best life. Like needle felting, wet felting also uses a bunch of specialty tools and materials so I've linked those below, and I also linked some tutorials that I found super useful!

If you love wet felting, I think you'll love Nuno felting even more! It's a type of wet felting that's done with a very light fabric backing (think sheer silk scarf) that lets the felt drape, and gives it the softer hand you're looking for.
I love this cape so much! You 100% accomplished the 'I just put moss on myself' look of it and it turned out so well. Big forest witch vibes.

It looks so real, almost like you just stripped a piece of mossy bark of a tree, I love how it flares on the shoulders
I think you totally hit the mark for 'piece of moss' cloak. I really like the orange and red in it, overall love it! For suggestions on wet felting, maybe making a structured bag from wet felted material.

I never heard of wet felting before! that was really interesting to watch! I love how you can see some strands/curls of the green wool, makes it look like something that's growing
Really pretty capelet! I have not seen this felting technique before, but the results seem to be worth the effort! I love your costume aesthetic; your characters are beautiful and trend toward sweet (even the “dark” ones) without falling into the sickly, treacly sweet realm, and I like that. You remind me of a slightly Goth hobbit, and I appreciate that sensibility. Looking forward to your next video (featuring maybe a little Baby Bat?). Well done!

I have only ever wet felted knitted things. Wet felting loose wool looks like fun and a lot of work!
Cute cape. You know, a wooden toggle or "horn" toggle would also be a fun closure idea for round two. Oh! And when I spinning, the wool was called "roving".
Yess honestly that’s more of what I wanted but I left the clasp till the last minute haha and had to go with what I could find at Joanns 😅
felted 18th gloves would be super cute and you could occasionally wear the leather bracers over them

I really enjoy seeing a reveal for each component of your overall look. It's a lot of fun watching everything draw together and become more cohesive over the series.
I love this piece and I love the rigidity of the wool it gives a very interesting silhouette!
I think the drape (or somewhat lack thereof) really helped give it the feel of being a big piece of moss you picked up and put on your shoulders 💚

This is such a beautiful project. It's amazing to see what happens when textiles are used differently. I was super surprised when I saw the silver clasps you used to open and close the cape, because just yesterday I sewed some of the same ones onto a project for myself! 🙂 I love watching your costumes you design come to life.

I always loved wet felting. We used dishsoap in college, which makes the idea of sudsless very funny to me. It turned out lovely.
I used dish soap the first time I did it! Honestly I don’t recall that much of a difference except it drying my hands out more but the internet said the fewer the suds the better lol

The capelet turned out super cute and definitely looks like moss! I love the bits of red and orange. I kind of want to try this technique now, it looks really fun to do. I'm not much of a sewer (besides hand stitching), but I love crafting techniques that are very hands on like this if that makes sense. The clasp was definitely a good choice over a ribbon! A ribbon would have felt a little too.... red riding hood, maybe? I'd love to see a mossy corset/bodice made with this technique (if that's possible).
A mossy corset would be so cute! I think I’d have to back it with a stronger fabric so it doesn’t fall apart? But I think it’s doable!

i love how these mossy wool projects are coming out! i've been putting off finally doing wet felting a colour-blocked beret for over a year and you may have finally pushed me into doing it! most of the examples i've seen have been single colour but i love how you were able to get such a nice palette in. i also love that texture you got at the end, it really brought everything to that mossy place!
A barret sounds fun, but would you make a circle and add elastic? I've been wanting to make barret but I'm unsure how.
Thank you! Aah that sounds super cute! I think one of my favorite parts of wet felting is how easy it is to incorporate different colors so I think that should definitely work for your project
@@danielletdg8423 oops, the notif got eaten for this reply! my understanding is that you do two separate pieces, one for the full circle for the top, then a bottom circle that is the same circumference but has a hole for the head in the center. they end up joined at the outer edge so they're continuous at the fullest point, then you make a band for it to attach on the inner circumference as a band. i'm sure you could do elastic instead of a band though, it's definitely a bit tricky (and definitely why i've been putting it off lmao)

Honestly with the felted bracers if you make them slightly longer then you could layer them even and that could be an interesting look 🤔

I don’t know how you could use this, but I feel like dragon wings would look great with this technique because the veining could look very realistic.

Have good memories of wet felting in primary school, it was really fun! We never made something to complicated of course but I feel inspired to maybe try that technique again :)
Very forest witch! Lovely. Re the shoulder shaping - I assuming that its a dense fabric that does not fray? You could cut a slim triangle out where you would put a dart and then stitch the 2 edges together butted up? You could even make a feature with some foresty style embroidery? I've butted up fleece this way using an overlocker - flatlock stitching. If you were concerned that the felt might give over time you could reinforce the back with some fine fabric/net.
I keep watching your videos while I prepare myself to make next seasons RenFaire costumes, getting fabric for the costumes, etc. your content is wonderful! I’ve been sewing for a while, but am still very green to things like pattern drafting and alterations, but your videos have shown me that it doesn’t have to be super complicated. Thank you so much!

I love that you use so many different techniques in your videos. As someone just getting into costuming and cosplay (not just general fashion sewing) it's really helpful to see that you do need other things than just a sewing machine to make something look the way you want it to.

Totally off-topic, but I went to a fan-made website for a video game I play this morning and saw what, I swear, was an outfit made to look like your witch outfit from last year. Even the character wearing the outfit looked like you. It was so adorable! Not sure who made it but I'm sure they must be a fan. I'd link it but the whole thing is technically against ToS for that game and I don't want to get anybody in trouble.

Wow it came out sooooo moss like!!! What a fascinating method of making fabric too - I'd never heard of it! It would be fascinating to know if you could do a little satchel bag with this method! that would likely need a few pieces sewn together but would definitely fit the moss fairy/wood elf aesthetic
Thank you!! I think it’d work well for a satchel but it would probably need to be felted to a sturdier bag if you wanna hold anything heavy? That sounds like a fun project though, I’ll have to do that in the future!! Definitely trying to build up a fairycore wardrobe 😊
@@moth.faerie yeah it probably would only be able to hold fairy goods on its own like leaves and acorns lol would using a backing of a thin canvas/calico work maybe? That way it stays soft but has a bit more sturdy backing

@@moth.faerie I'm researching e-textiles(putting or building electrical circuits from fabric)! I've played with conductive fibers before, that can be needle felted, but I'm definitely gonna experiment with various wet felting techniques

I’m not sure if you could do it over a wool blanket, but I think it’s possible! Probably depends on how the wool blankets been treated and if it’s already gone through the whole fulling process? I think if it’s already been fulled it probably will have a hard time sticking to more wool but that’s just a theory 😅

I thought the stiffness of the cape reinforced the idea that it was made of bark. The last thing I wet felted was a beret a few months ago. The head hole grew so large that it was unwearable but in my defence I haven't felted for 20 years lol.
Haha that’s totally fair, it feels much easier to account for fabric shrinkage rather than the negative space growing
