Rhythm sections don't get any better than this!
They do, but you have to pay them.
The drummer is my nephew, Eric Tapper -- he's playing with the Army Blues now. A simply killer work ethic, and great, great musician.
@@richtapper5094 THATS SICK
They Cooking with Gas!!
To say these guys are tight is insulting. What a band!
I know this is the famous UNT! When I listen, I have to come back to reality that this a college band. Awesome future for keeping jazz alive!
Unbelievable guitarist. Played seamlessly through so many changes!! Omg
Two bass 'bones. As it should be.

great lead trpt work. guaranteed the only chair worried about what might go wrong. top notch work.
Was searching for Airmen of Note version and instead got this... respect....extremely tight to it..
Great band! Shout out to the guitar player, excellent soloist. That ain't easy at this tempo. Loved the concert opening. Ensemble is excellent and audio quality the best. Many improvements from the 70s. Plus slick Director!
nice opening with the shout chorus of "In The Tradition"
For everyone (naturally) impressed by the lead player, his name is Joshua Kauffman. He currently plays with the US Army Blues.
one o'clock lab band rocks!! man this is the kind of music i would love to here in a cafe!!! BRILLIANT JUST BRILLIANT!!
Anna Oggier s
I can hear Brian MacDonalds lead trumpet style. Definitely a good role model to copy!
This lead is slaaayyyyinnn
that bass though
i heard that boliva bass line. You cant hide from me bass player
it is most advised to play the Bolivia bass line as often as possible 😂
That bassist, my goodness...
He's walking that Dog..!!!
Who’s that drummer? He’s killing it!
Eric Tapper.
I was here! Amazing concert live!

That's Paul Lees on piano lol
2:30 the lick detected
I'm getting a McCoy Tyner vibe from the pianist
Chops of steel
Interesting choice in snare drum sound.
Tens of thousands of hours of practice between those players. College students no less.
haha tenor player at 3:55 practicing some fingerings beforehand. We've all been there (also maybe not on the same level as these guys)
I'm a jazz pianist and I now want to cut my hands off. This kid is a tasty player. Wow!!!
this is like the movie whiplash but hearing what people can create irl. loss of words. insane performance.
What a great title! LOL
What mouthpiece is that lead using? Insane chops (yes, mouthpieces don’t equate range, although equipment does help)
It does
what yamaha trombones the playing in the bone section
this is fuckin mean
wait a goddamn minute this ain't Chiodos
I just wish there was a sax solo... that would have been epic
Lead trumpet player playing a Conn 36 or 38b?
James Smith 36b
I think he plays Yamaha, with GR pieces
lead trumpet 👀 6:54
Quincy Jones esc entrance
lick 2:31
What is seating arrangement for the horns?
I'm pretty sure it goes something like this for the brass:
4th 2nd 1st 3rd 5th
And for saxes:
Tenor1 Alto2 Alto1 Tenor2 Bari
Jason Donnelly Thank you for clearing that up. With them having a 5 man trombone section, I didn't know if that changed up the seating for the trumpets as well. 😁
Kevin Neace I can confirm that from left to right its 4th 2nd 1st 3rd 5th
For trumpets its 5 3 1 2 4,
bones are 4 2 1 3 5
Kyle knows what's up!
The intro is borrowed from a Steve Owen piece called "In the Tradition" th-cam.com/video/X7RF7vxYFpE/w-d-xo.html
These musicians are nothing unless they learn and recognize the contributions that Leon Breeden brought to that program.
What a weird comment
