The best thing is that it works well with any blade, you just need to find the right plate. Until now I didn't think much of Derby or Wilkinson Sword blades, but now they work wonders with a 5 or 6 plate.
I've achieved the most success (nick free shaves) with this razor. My favorite so far. Plate 5 is my go to. Sometimes I'll go with 6 for a 1st pass and finish with 5. I've pretty much watched every Rockwell 2c, 6c, and 6s review on youtube and you're the first one to explain that when you screw it in and the number that you see on the underside of the razor is the size you're shaving with.

Even with the best blade, they still have yet to match the quality or ease of the safety razor. Not to mention the cost is a fraction. I'll rarely use my Dovo now sadly.
I'm in love with mine too. It's funny - I know someone who HATES the huge markups of those expensive cartridges ("I know how much they cost to make"), yet he simply refuses to try a DE. The argument for low to high is that removing less stubble in the early passes reduces the risk of nicks and cuts. Subsequent passes are working through less stubble, and are removing closer to the skin. The disadvantage is higher risk of irritation. That is the explanation I heard/read. I tried it, but prefer high to low myself.
In my opinion, this is the best the razor that I’ve used. I have a R41, 37c ( I think, the slant version) , a Parker variant, and I bought the 6c. I like the 6c so much I bought the 6s and gave the 6c as a gift to a friend. The 6c threading issue you were talking about as I think you stated isn’t really an issue. May be due to the coating I think. Changing the plates to me aren’t an inconvenience as it’s takes about 5 seconds maybe. I don’t use a towel to do it, never had any issues. The 6s stainless steel version has perfect threads. Once again I think due to the coating on the 6c the threads may be thicker. This razor is as efficient as my r41 but way way way smoother. Not even a comparison as far as smoothness goes. It doesn’t feel aggressive but the hair is gone. Serious so really well made razors. I just stick with a 5 plate mostly. I can see why some people a go with a 1,3,6 though. The way my hair grows on my face it doesn’t matter how aggressive a razor is with the grain or even across the grain it still removes the same amount or growth. But my against the grain pass has to be fairly aggressive to get a baby butt smooth shave. If it’s to mild it’s take way to many passes. I have pretty coarse whiskers.
It's seriously overrated how men perceive this as more aggressive than R41 with the plate on. I shaved with the 6S with the 6 cap and while it was smooth, it wasn't even remotely aggressive. I did 4-5 passes with it, too. I have to shave trouble spots on my neck that I shave several times.
@@JonBonesJones84 the r41 feels way more aggressive. So I perceive the r41 to be more aggressive. BUT, it doesn’t take anymore hair off my face. I think it may have a lot to do with how the hair on your face grows, maybe. But for me it takes just as much hair off my face as a R41. I have even used straights and shavettes and get the same outcome.
If traveling by road or with checked luggage I like to use a 6S with a 2/4 plate and use 4 for first pass if more than 1-day beard but otherwise I enjoy 2 side for my sensitive skin and medium beard.
Another terrific and very informative shave Geo!! Love your videos! I have the 6c and the 6s. The 6s is better made but the 6c is smoother as it's chromed. I tend to go 6-4-2 with my Rockwells depending on growth of course. On a personal note, I have been back at work for a good few weeks now and other staff are starting to arrive back too. We are getting ready for Disney who are coming to rehearse for their new tour of the Lion King. We also have another world premiere coming in the future but it's still under wraps at the moment. Our last World premiere was Mary Poppins. I hope you and your family are well, safe and getting back to some form of normality. Best wishes to you all my friend, Dave.
Recently shaved with the 6S, and it occurred to me that it would be terrific if Rockwell introduced a titanium and/or an aluminum version of this stellar razor. I find the 6S a bit weighty. But absolutely is tops in the den regardless.
Geo💈💈 Nice shave. The Rockwell 6S and 6C are both great razors IMO, I have both and reach for the 6C more often due to a slightly smoother feel. Regardless, they give me a smooth face and it looks like they gave you one as well. I tried the soap and found it worked quite good with a pleasant scent. Great video, thanks. Enjoy!
Recently got the 6C and I'm really enjoying it. I actually shave twice a day (yes, with an ATG pass), using only water, on plate 2. However, I've noticed that it's difficult to get a BBS result on my cheeks - too many passes and too much pressure. So today i tried an ATG pass ONLY on my cheeks, using #4 - problem solved. So IMHO the idea of finishing with a more aggressive setting should at least be kept in mind, perhaps only for certain areas. Now, re #2 - this has been a game changer - i can really relax using this setting, and chuck it around with ease, like a cartridge. (yes, even using only water for my lubricant. Naturally i would use a normal lubricant when shaving off more growth)
Thanks Geo. Also, I've read elsewhere that the 6S (which has a more matte finish) tends to grip on the skin, whereas the 6S glides over the skin very easily.
I actually have a 6S I got from an Australian who had polished the top cap and the guide surfaces that I really like. I also used small grit sand paper to smooth one myself and although it didn’t make it shiny it made it glide similar to a 6C as well.
Hi Geo- Great shave and shaving product reviews; thank you! I prefer the 6C to the 6S, as the glide is much nicer with the chrome razor (for me). I hope you have a great weekend! Take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, Geo!
If you like the 6S for all the other reasons the top cap and guide surfaces can be polished - either with a wheel or fine sandpaper and when smooth the 6S is smooooth too.
I have the 6C and I considered for a long time to buy the 6S as an upgrade even if it should shave the same. I would have never guessed that the smooth texture would be a plus. Now my daily razor is the Razorock Game Changer 68, it's like between plate 3 and 4.
This is my safety razor! I love it. Got mine in gun metal. Great weight. Looks sexy. Very happy with mine.... I also use it on number 6 now, worked my way up.
thanks for useful and comprehensive videos. your filming technique is great not too slow and boring or too fast. finally I'll dare say judging from soap left on your face before you do the mustache area, imho a mustache might look nice on you :) or and a great name
The 6C is the SUV of DE razors and is a great daily driver. I generally run with #3 for all 3 passes with no issues whatsoever. My wife commandeered my Merkur 23c and my 33c is now in my dopp kit.
The 6c and 6s is one of the most popular modern DE razors. As others have said, most people consider it more of an "selectable" or "interchangeable" Many consider it very comfortable even on higher settings, and use it as a "set and forget" razor. Or only adjust it based on the needs of that particular day. Vs. Exchanging them on each pass.
The way he shaves make it look so easy. If i'd do it like that, it would be blood and cuts everywhere. I guess that's what a rough skin does. But the sensitive one Is quite the opposite.
I usually use proraso white line with muhle r89 and astra green. I guess is my skin tho.. I need to shave it very careful, otherwise i get irritation and cuts everywhere.
Great review! Wish I'd seen this a few months ago before I bought a Merkur 34G. I thought those were for sensitive skin which they are not: Since I started wet shaving four months ago, I've gone through numerous brands of blades and nothing has gone well--with maybe the exception of German made Wilkinson Sword blades. Even with those, there were would be some burn. This morning I virtually gave up on wet shaving and planned on returning to Schick Hydro 5 which never gave me a problem. Then I came across your video...I might still have issues, but it still has the sensitive skin option. Only thing is: now I'm going to have to go through all the blades again to find the best one for me. Mileage varies...
What shaving soap do you use? I highly recommend Italian artisan soaps. A bit more expensive maybe, but since I use those my skin improved significantly without any irritation. Also try not to push on the razor to much
@@formulerd5390 Geofatboy was right I did get there. You’re right as well: pushing even just a little bit caused problems. I do like the Italian artisans like Cella, and Proraso.
Good to hear you got there. It's so much better for the skin... I don't know where you're from, but if you can try to get your hands on OFFICINA ARTIGIANA MILANO soap or PHOENIX ARTISAN ACC with CK6 formula give it a try. These soaps will not disappoint you. I have many soaps and these 2 are by far the best.

45 and finally switching from my Gillette Mach3 to DE. Bought my 6C this week and received it yesterday. @geofatboy My question is should I order pre shave oil also before starting? I only bought the kit with razor, brush and shaving cream. My beard is a week old and still pretty light so I was going to try it with the No1 setting. I wanted a closer shave and that’s why I switched to DE.
@@jonathanroy7582He has videos on lathering and water/brushes etc. sometimes when there's too much product you need a little bit more water and sometimes if there's too much water you'll need a little bit more product You have to find that balance. Just learn how to work with your brush whether it's synthetic or badger. There's lots of good videos on shave angle and all those things as well and how to use as little pressure as possible. Shave oil is a personal preference. Some people like to use a glycerin type of pre-shave. I sometimes use extra virgin coconut oil although some people says they can clog pores. I never had that issue other people use grapeseed. Or they buy a pre-shave oil. I also have a regular pre-shave oil I bought as well. Depends on the day. Another trick you can use is with the soap or cream you are going to lather with...you can take a small amount in your hand, wipe it all over your face and add water to it and use that as a preshave. Then apply your lather on-top
Hello I am partially sighted just wondered how big the numbers are on the face plates just wondering how I would mark them if I can’t see the numbers any ideas thanks keep up the good work
I would just have someone tell you what the numbers are and then engrave the corresponding number of notches or other marks on it so you can tell easily by feel.
I remember you doing a review of a 3 plate interchangeable razor before.... it seems a little too much work when you can an adjustable razor like a Murkur or others....anyway I enjoy a thing you shave and hearing other pro tips on shaving
When I change the plate I stand the razor on it's head on a towel, then put two fingers on the bottom of the plate while I unscrew the handle. This way, I'm not near the sharp edges.
I got this last month , I use 5 , 3 ,1 and I’m like silk , what are the best blades to use with it mate , got vostok, blue diamond, free Rockwell , nacets, treet orange , but I’ve heard feather are the best ,
i only ever use the 3 plate combined with gillette platinum blades with the 6S version, been using only this razor for the last year and a half and glad a friend suggested it, way better than disposables or electric imho. keep up the great content Geo ! :)
Hey Geo! I actually like the 6c over 6s. It just seems a little smoother. Also, a better term they should use is "interchangeable" over adjustable. Nevertheless, it is a unique and wonderful system! Thanks for the review!
If one likes the 6S for all the other reasons polishing the top cap and guide surfaces with a wheel or fine grit paper works great to smooth those surfaces that contact skin. A guy in Australia also resells them polished on eBay.
Geo, Thanks for the awesome content! I had a question for you that might resolve some issues with my technique, and maybe help some other de shavers as well. When I have been told light touch, no pressure, let the razor do the work, what does that truly mean? When I get to my chin area, I do feel some tugging when I am not applying pressure Just wondering if you reiterate what that means? Thank you!
I have a 6c and don't find the finish to be that great honestly, like you found with the thread but I find some plates take a little finagling to seat nicely, honestly, I find the finish on my £12 de89 amazon edition one to be far better, might just be my 6c though
You’re like a damn surgeon with this razor. Lol I just got mine, yesterday. Plate 1 didn’t seem to do much. Can’t remember plate 2. Plates 3 seemed the best for me. Plate 4 seemed a little aggressive. With that said, I don’t think I’ll try plate 5 or 6, unless I have heavy growth.
I often tell, the Rockwell is a very boring razor. I always get great shaves without any incidents. :) And I reach for it most of the times (the 6C, but als have a black 6S when I want to have a more fancy shave). The blades they have are not very sharp, I don’t like them, but with a feather it’s excellent and very smooth. Great razor for people that also just want one razor.
I have this razor! I should have used it today instead of the Viking's Blade adjustable (with Persona blade). BTW, you didn't say, "Clear the runways."😳
Geo, just commented on an older video with this question: what is a comparable OPEN comb razor to the Rockwell 6C? I use plate number 2 & 5 with the Rockwell. So far considering a Merkur 25C or 15C Would appreciate your insight on this matter, thanks!
They can be. With the Merkur Futur adjustable you can even unlock the razor's set restriction at level '6', so it extends to '12' and beyond (to cavernous blade gaps). If attempting to do so craziness, one has to be careful the razor is securely holding the blade to avoid any dangerous mishaps. Still, level '6' should be adequate for most. If not, the iKon Tech is more aggressive than the Mühle R41 -- and one of the most aggressive non-adjustable razors out there. Some single edge razors using Feather Artist Club blades (which are thicker) may be more efficient work as well (in the right single edge razor) and don't seem as harsh as the iKon Tech. I'd recommend the RazoRock Hawk V3 Open Comb single edge razor (which some have said is more aggressive than the 'Aggressive' model) with a Feather 'Super Professional' (which is Feather's most aggressive single edge blade). As long as you're gentle with your technique, you should get a very efficient and comfortable shave. Maybe one day ShaveNation will carry other single edge (Feather Artist Club-style) razors, in addition to the Feather Artist Club straight razors they currently carry.
I never considered these Rock Well razors. I have the Parker Semi Slant and the Parker Variant adjustable razors, both in graphite. They've been working very well for me. But seems like I should've considered these Rockwell razors too. But the fact that you have to switch out the bottom plate is annoying, definitely a draw back and a deal breaker!
OK, may be a strange request. I shave my head but do NOT want to shave to the skin. I'm going for zero chance of nicks and cuts with a very short (.5 to 1mm) stubble. I currently use a Merkur comb style razor.

Thanks for sharing your 6C experience Richard!
Sounds like you're a big R41 fan!
Best wishes to you all my friend,
Dave.
Thanks for sharing Dave. I'm glad things are going back to normal in the UK. We have definitely turned a corner in the US as well. Onward and Upward!

Nice! Thanks for sharing.
love your (s)lathered smile geo. great work
Thanks Praynay!
Recently shaved with the 6S, and it occurred to me that it would be terrific if Rockwell introduced a titanium and/or an aluminum version of this stellar razor. I find the 6S a bit weighty. But absolutely is tops in the den regardless.
I prefer the heavier razors as there is no need to apply any pressure as needed with those lightweight aluminum razors.
Enjoy!
Thanks for that Terry! Others have mentioned that they prefer the 6C to 6S because of the glide factor. Might be a fun comparison video.
I get excited when i see a shaver review and some 3 day growth 😊
I just got my first de shave kit from Gentlemen Jons, also got proraso sandlewood soap and pre shave. Your videos are very informative, thank you !
Thanks Bill. shavenation.com/
Thanks Geo.
Also, I've read elsewhere that the 6S (which has a more matte finish) tends to grip on the skin, whereas the 6S glides over the skin very easily.
Did you mean to say the 6C on the second one?
I actually have a 6S I got from an Australian who had polished the top cap and the guide surfaces that I really like. I also used small grit sand paper to smooth one myself and although it didn’t make it shiny it made it glide similar to a 6C as well.
@@geofatboy Yassu Geo. Yes, you are correct. I did mean the 6C glides over the skin very easily. Keep up the good work matey.
Ciao
I keep nicking myself with the King C Gillette but i think i'm trying to go over my head too much so i'm hoping a 5 plate on a 6c will set me straight
Thanks, i have 6s rockwell razor very nice and rockwell blead very smooth 👍👍
Hi Geo- Great shave and shaving product reviews; thank you! I prefer the 6C to the 6S, as the glide is much nicer with the chrome razor (for me). I hope you have a great weekend! Take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, Geo!
Thanks Mike! Be well.
Good stuff!
Does your gunmetal finish have any wear by now? I've seen some posts where some people have the finish wear off
@@xlkaii it has a kind of "patina" from water exposure etc. But no flaking or rubbing off or anything. It's solid.
@malthus101 I see, thanks for responding
thanks for useful and comprehensive videos. your filming technique is great not too slow and boring or too fast. finally I'll dare say judging from soap left on your face before you do the mustache area, imho a mustache might look nice on you :) or and a great name
Thanks for your kind words and support. You can see the actual mustache in a few of my previous videos as opposed to the milk mustache!
Can please do a review again on murkur 34c with a week beard

@@geofatboy yes sir
There's another Model of Rockwell the Rockwell Model T which is as similar as the Gilette Fatboy you should review that also Geo
This One: th-cam.com/video/o0U5goPgjzo/w-d-xo.html
They might be having some issues with it as they've been unavailable for a while.
As others have said, most people consider it more of an "selectable" or "interchangeable"
Many consider it very comfortable even on higher settings, and use it as a "set and forget" razor. Or only adjust it based on the needs of that particular day. Vs. Exchanging them on each pass.
THanks Dan! I called it "flippable" in previous videos. The plates can be a pain to switch but also add to the razor's versatility.
Great shave Geo, Love my Rockwell!!❤🔥
Nice!
The way he shaves make it look so easy.
If i'd do it like that, it would be blood and cuts everywhere. I guess that's what a rough skin does. But the sensitive one Is quite the opposite.
Or your shaving routine and product selection need an update.
Thanks for sharing Walts-You'll get there!
@@formulerd5390 I’m from San Francisco Bay Area: Thanks for that info-yes I’ve tried CAD, Future Fiction and Cavendish. I will be buying many more from PAA. Yes CK6. 👍🏻
Hey @geofatboy ! How would you compare the adjustment plates on these Rockwell’s to a Gillette fatboy
Is it because I emptied to much water from my brush that it didn’t lather as much as you?
I LOVE my 6C!
Woo Hoo!
What have you found to be the best blade to go with this razor? Great video! Sucks I just bought a supply SE razor but will purchase this one as well

@@geofatboy thanks for your help
I remember you doing a review of a 3 plate interchangeable razor before.... it seems a little too much work when you can an adjustable razor like a Murkur or others....anyway I enjoy a thing you shave and hearing other pro tips on shaving
Once you have your number, you'll never change it.
Thank you for your support Bryan!
How about a shave-off between the Rockwell 6s/c vs the Merkur Futur.
Great job ,as usual
Thanks G!
When I change the plate I stand the razor on it's head on a towel, then put two fingers on the bottom of the plate while I unscrew the handle.
This way, I'm not near the sharp edges.
I got this last month , I use 5 , 3 ,1 and I’m like silk , what are the best blades to use with it mate , got vostok, blue diamond, free Rockwell , nacets, treet orange , but I’ve heard feather are the best ,
Excellent!
Any blade overhang from these 6c razors.?
New to this style of shaving, considering one of these as upgrade to a Gillette King C
Thanks
i only ever use the 3 plate combined with gillette platinum blades with the 6S version, been using only this razor for the last year and a half and glad a friend suggested it, way better than disposables or electric imho.
keep up the great content Geo ! :)
Wow I was just thinking about buying one of these
I will suggest if you want a life time razor get the 6s it's built like a tank
Hey Geo! I actually like the 6c over 6s. It just seems a little smoother. Also, a better term they should use is "interchangeable" over adjustable. Nevertheless, it is a unique and wonderful system! Thanks for the review!
Thanks for sharing! I called it "flippable" in previous videos which I believe is more appropriate.
If one likes the 6S for all the other reasons polishing the top cap and guide surfaces with a wheel or fine grit paper works great to smooth those surfaces that contact skin. A guy in Australia also resells them polished on eBay.
Geo,
Thanks for the awesome content!
Thank you!
Mine had that roughness on the threads as well
Great shave and great gear!!
Why didn't you use a Rockwell brush? Is it because it very poor quality?

No favorite, I like to mix them up!
hello mr geofatboy do you prefer rockwell 6c or 6s
Hello geo..I'm about to order a new straight planer which is better rockwell 6c or this razorock lupo
On a sharpness scale of 1 to 10, what level of sharpness do you think plate number 6 is?
7ish...
I have a 6c and don't find the finish to be that great honestly, like you found with the thread but I find some plates take a little finagling to seat nicely, honestly, I find the finish on my £12 de89 amazon edition one to be far better, might just be my 6c though
DE 89 is a long time fave of wet shavers. Myself included.

Geo, i only do head shaves. Do u recommend the 2c or 6c for me?

"Hydrate, elevate and figure eight" (t-shirts needed GEO) lol....that was a great comment and this razor is great!!!!
Geo, just commented on an older video with this question: what is a comparable OPEN comb razor to the Rockwell 6C? I use plate number 2 & 5 with the Rockwell.
So far considering a Merkur 25C or 15C
Would appreciate your insight on this matter, thanks!
Are adjustable safety razors as aggressive as muhle R41? 🤔🤔
At the highest setting you can get there!

It was a little sudsy, but that may have been human error on my part.

With Across Against...
It is for some people. Takes a little getting used to switching plates... A bit tedious mid-shave
