    I worked at an international airport for many years, so I have seen my share of clothing, shoe, boot, and color options. One day I saw a guy wearing khaki's, (more of a brass color) black chukka's, and a black half-zip sweater. It was a great look, and I immediately incorporated it into my wardrobe. In addition to black and brown chukka's, I now have grey, sand, and dark moss colored boots. It's fun to try different color combinations. At 66, with just a little effort, I'm comfortable and confident when I go out. "Smart casual", I call it!

    I do prefer black boots whether I'm wearing blue jeans (of any shade) or black jeans because I like the color black in general especially for footwear. With black boots, you can be casual with them (biker culture is a good example) or clean them up real nice and put together a sharp outfit. It is what you make of it.

    I would put it this way. If you are watching this channel, you are probably buying more than one pair of boots. So eventually, whether it is your second, third or fourth pair, you will wind up with both.
    But in general, brown is more versatile.

    Great video and really love your style. Most of my boots are brown but just recently purchased the GS Brass boot in black CXl with the white wedge sole. It's super versatile and I can wear pretty much anything with it. I think those kinds of black boots are an exception to the rule and I pretty much treat them like brown boots.

      I also bought the Brass Boot in black CXL, but I ordered mine with a black rubber sole. At first I thought the boots look too big, they really look like a tank. I thought to return them, but at the end I decided to keep them. I am so glad I did. These boots are phenomenal, I have also received several compliments. I want to buy another one in BROWN horween leather, unfortunately I have been waiting for six months, I requested to be added to the waiting list, I guess GRANTSTONE are too busy or probably they haven’t been able to get the raw materials to make them. Brown boots are my favorite, but definitely everyone should try to have a couple of black boots, they look very nice with black jeans and white or light blue shirt.

    If i had to chose one color for boots...... Brown, i wear black shirt, blue jeans most of the time and have plenty of the same outfit. Timeless, effortless & simple look. I think its mostly the shades of browns that matter with the outfit but for a specific color, you can't go wrong with a standard brown boot. The black color is best for when getting a dress shoe & not that anyone ask for my opinions, 😂 sneakers should be a white or off white color. That wil save you alot of over analyzing & worrying.

    Great video and reasoning on both color choices, but I have a curveball to throw at you - gray boots! I recently got a pair of the new Red Iron Rangers in the Slate Muleskinner and given the neutral nature of gray, I'm pretty confident wearing them with any jeans, blues and blacks, but I'd be about for your take. Most of my boots are brown, but I do have a couple pairs of black in the mix - this is my first foray into gray.Thanks!

    Honestly whenever I wore brown boots, I got way more compliments and I'd catch girls AND guys looking at my brown boots compared to my black ones. 😏 Could be the black ones were too intimidating with making me taller or didn't match well with my skin tone... who knows? Tbh they just look like you're walking in a black hole unless it's done right. Black boots look good when there's contrast within. I think that's why doc martens remain popular, the yellow stitching, maybe different colored laces and the outsole being a foggy black/brown.

    I remember growing up, you had one pair of boots and black or brown did not matter. Got older and for years, got caught up with the black/brown boot thing. Now, I just wear whatever in warmer weather. I just match the color of boots with the belt. Honestly, black or brown goes with any jeans and most chino pants as well. Only time I match boot color now is if I am wearing a black or brown leather jacket. Most other than brown jackets work fine with black boots as well. I do like brown boots more though.

  • @lionelgarcia2386

    Browns seem most versatile. The Thursday Olive Green also seems like it could be a balance between black and brown. Can wear green with black and brown attire. A little difficult finding the right brown for versatility. Thursday Arizona Adobe a good choice? Probably will also have to buy black boots for black or gray attire. For casual, I rely on other options like black Oxford brogues, or black minimalist sneekers. But I can see why a boot would be more appropriate because of weather or terrain. Or maybe just preference. Appreciate the presentation.

    I mostly like charcoal grey pants (it's like this soft cotton material, not denim), black/white shirts, military green jacket, etc. So black is the colour of choice for me (including my black Vans with black laces and brown gum).
    If I'm wearing lighter colours like lighter earthy pants, light pink/blue/white shirts, my rather white jacket, then lighter brown boots would certainly work, but with those colours I just wanna wear my light grey Vans with white laces and white gum.
    Then for more formal-wear, I like darker colours and so I like black boots there.
    Brown boots stand out a lot more. They can easily become a bit of a focal point.
    Oh, and since my pants aren't like, black-black (Contrastive focus reduplication), I like the boots to not be actually proper black. Because then if I wear a black shirt, it creates this real sandwich of colour (I call it sandwiching) where my pants stand out a lot. Breaking the top up with a jacket helps, but ideally the shoes would match the pants a little closer (especially important for tall boots that go on the outside of the pants, because then it becomes extremely noticeable exactly where the boot/pants line is, and can look goofy).
    So it seems boots for me are really just for if I want to look particularly cool... in which case I'll be wearing darker cooler colours, and black boots suit that vibe. Otherwise I'm just wearing my Vans.

    I don't own any black boots and the only time I wear black shoes is with a tux. It's the same thing with my watches, I have a single watch with a black leather band and it's a very formal dress watch. With my skin tone and the colors I wear black footwear doesn't fit in anywhere. Also, I have memories of many jobs that forced me to wear ugly plain black footwear and I still have a grudge lol

    I primarily gravitate towards western/cowboy boots because that's the lifestyle I grew up in. Riding horses, working around livestock, and more often than not, needing that tall neck/shaft to help protect should I run into a rattlesnake, So I never really understood cuffing my jeans. But I did start getting into lace ups in about my mid 20s starting with a pair of Thursday President which I recently had to finally replace because of a... less than stellar situation... I still don't do it, It's not practical for my area cause it's just another snag point, and since I like looking as practical as I try to be, I just can't commit to doing it. But that's just me.

      i suspect this was because historically we were more formal in clothing style but also people had far less clothing. For example in London the old adage 'no brown in town' still applies to leather dress shoes in the core. Brown and plaid/tweed is for the estate. I presume black dye was more expensive and doesn't show age as much and so the point was to show you were not a farmer or labourer.

    Hey BootSpy, I just bought 2 pairs of Captains, which are my first Thursday boot purchases. I've noticed my knees have really started hurting almost every time I've worn either pair. After googling around, I've learned heavy boots with a higher heel can cause this, and lighter, more cushioned boots with adequate arch support and lower heels "are always a better option" (per one site). It also seems like my knees hurt when sitting down because of the resistance the thick, leather tongue creates against the front of my ankles. Have you experienced these problems? It's a bit of a downer, since I really like how they look. I also can't return them now.

    • @pianofry1138
      @pianofry1138 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you're walking you'll experience the weight you exert on the ground(which is a few times your mass). A boot that distributes weight away from your knees is always preferable. I've only owned a few pairs of boots but lower heels and softer soles is usually what's worked for me. I'm not any professional on this subject but I know footwear can have a lot of affect on knee pain. I work on concrete floors in the evenings and walk around campus in the day so I'm in my shoes quite a bit. When I decided to wear my RW Moc Toes to work my knee pain went away from the New Balances I had before.You can't fix weight distribution of a shoe and unless you don't have to do much walking they aren't worth keeping. I know tounges on boots can be uncomfortable at first but I've never heard of them causing knee pain. Sometimes when you take the weight off a joint that's when it hurts but I can't say that's what's happening with you. Hopefully they get better (only wear one pair so it can be the experimental break in) or you get a good resell on them.

    • @doctorsuarez
      @doctorsuarez ปีที่แล้ว

      My Thursday captains are pretty heavy and while they don’t hurt my knees they still feel odd to walk in. One thing I’ve done that helps is to stop fretting about the weight and let my knee and ankle loosen up.. essentially, I stop subconsciously “lifting” them and treating them like they’re heavy.

      @@BootSpy I love the way they age and how versatile they are 🤩 I do have a pair of Herring Coleford's in a similar colour though already... But you can never have enough, right? 😅

    Neither. Get copper colored boots 😉

    Another youtuber already answered this question. The answer is neither. Dark green olive is the most versatile boot color. Far more versatile than brown or black. There is nothing that Thursday dark olive suede doesn't go with. So all of you in the comments section that are talking about brown or black, are wrong. Sorry, scientifically, factually proven wrong.

      yeah and then you are forced to buy Thursday :-D

      Was about to comment the same. It was a Modest Man video in which he recommends dark olive and he gives two examples, the Thursday boots and another brand.

      @@whyFINAL Thurseday is bad? I just bought their dark oak wingtips and the black coffee roadster jacket. Both seem of good quality. I am new to boots and (non- actual motorcycle jacket) jackets though. So I don't have experience with competitors.

      @@f1hotrod527 I dont say they are bad, but not many brands make that specific color, so the options are limited. Another problem is that here in CZ they dont have any AD, so only way to get them is blind ordering online+ paying VAT …. :) i hate buying boots online
