Thanks for mentioning OuterKnown. The best clothing brand I've ever owned. Love their Denim especially the selvedge. I own almost every jean they make. Great information on Cuffing but, I'm more in to stacking or letting them hang. Thanks for doing what you do.
Great video William, one of the best. I am a loyal UK viewer aged the wrong side of 60. I've just returned to wearing jeans after many years - make that decades. I got myself slim fit pairs of Levi's, Wranglers and some selvedge jeans. I'm wearing Thursday Captains. I am a big guy, over six feet tall and as we say in England, "big boned". Can a big guy over 60 get away with cuffed jeans? Stacked - I wouldn't go there!
52 and wearing skinny selvedge jeans with either Thursday Vanguards or Chelsea's. Cuffed and looking quite styley , thank you very much. Plan on doing so through my 80's and giving less of a damn with each passing day.
In the fifties we wore Levis-they were 501s-with the 1/2 in. hem turned over close & tight...then (1) more tight same way....with a half break...a skinny belt with the buckle at the Port Bow, but mostly no belt...some guys pegged em tightly & wore blue suede roach killers.
Dude, I did the “pin roll” in the 80’s as a kid cause all the jeans had big cuffs. Check out Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell. That was the preppy style boi! 😂
I'm with you on the raw denim thing. I had a pair of raw that I broke in for like 6 months before first wash and they felt like a canvas potato sack. Simply not comfortable at all.
I wish I could do clean break. But my pant size is 28x28. And the smallest I find everywhere is 28x30 when it comes to edc jeans. So I need to stuff those extra 2" somewhere
I agree with you and I'm 41 lol. I honestly thought there might be some kind of functional reason for this, like it started because someone wanted to keep their dark wash jeans from leaving marks on their leather or white sneakers. To each their own though!
Hey William, Just got a pair of the Grant Stone Brass boots based on your recommendation. LOVE THEM! These boots are SOLID! BTW Is there any particular Levis you'd recommend to someone who is 40ish, pretty athletic and about 6feet?
dude can you tell me what kind of shirt that is it seems to be denim but i can never find anything (online) that looks like yours i just went through 20 pages of shirts on amazon and nothing comes close except a levis classic western shirt but i dont like their red tags lol
They fit over cowboy boots specifically because of the tall and wide shaft required to pull them on. You don't need that at all for 6 inch lace up boots, chelseas, etc. I understand liking the look of them for sure but saying all boots need or excel with bootcut jeans is just not true.
Lmao that “pin roll” is how a lot of service members blouse their pants (but in rather than out). I used to do this with a blousing strap in my ABUs. Now I’m in flight suits so no more blousing for me.
Enjoyed this immensely , at 67 years young i just got some great info on style . I am 100% and Allen Edmonds kinda guy who embraces the entire boot lineup of Daltons , Landon’s , Hamiltons , and of course Higgins Mill ! Again I really appreciate your insight !
At 55, 6’4” and 265lbs my wife says I’m too old to cuff when I’m wearing 6” side zip, laced Connelly’s black capped toe and brown wingtip. Is 55 too old?
Wrangler 13MWZ’s or Branded Denim 102’s bought to stack when cuffed so you don’t look like your wearing high waters when your on your horse…but that’s just me.
cuffed and rolled is perfect for a winter flannel lined relaxed fit jeans with boots. Fashionable and functional by keeping that slush from soaking the bottoms.
Great video! This will apply to my boots I ordered from Thursdays! I ordered the Stompers and I will definitely try cuffing my jeans with them! -M,B. (Canada)
I was just watching this video then a couple of hours later for some reason ‘love shack’ by the b52’s popped in my head and I watched that video, and I just realised you look uncannily like the lead dude from that band. ‘I got me a Chrysler that’s as big as a whale’. You may have to review some 80’s boots ;-)
It depends on who you are. I like a LIGHT cuffing that is barely obvious because its a slender cut, and I do it more to accentuate my boots but also not get them caught up on my pants. I do think it looks cooler. But I do think it's annoying if you use TOO MUCH cuff. I don't like the way pants falling over boots looks, but just my opinion. I also don't give a fuck how another man wears his pants.
I enjoy a good bit of your boot content, but as a guy who grew up on horses, worked for years from horseback, and worked for years on the ground in agriculture wearing packers or pull on riding boots or redwi g work boots, I think this video is funny as hell. We could afford only one set of jeans, and we wore them long, stacked. If you got them shorter, when you get in the saddle, they run up your legs and you look like a kid with last year's pants.
I'm older. I'm just watching out of interest. Wait til I tell you what I did for a couple of months in my life, for a laugh. I had pretty skinny jeans, although they weren't so tight from about 4"and or 5" from the ankle. They started life, originally, as too long. I cut them across with scissors, to a 'slightly, too long' length, so as just to let them fray. Then I cut up the inside seam by about 2" and wore them with black suede Cuban heeled Chelseas. Oh, I almost forgot to mention. The jeans were black, so I layed them flat in my mother's bathtub and just poured a bottle of bleach all over them, in various sized blobs and stuff, front and back and once they were all white, grey and black bits that I was happy with, I rinsed all the bleach off with a showerhead. The bleach idea came from what skinheads used to do with skintight blue jeans, which they then wore with braces and oxblood or cherry red Docs. Except I was into Crazyhead and The Cult and had long hair way down my back. I made cuffs sometimes before they were called cuffs, too. We just called them turn-ups. Point being: Enjoy yourself, try new things, do whatever makes you feel good and feel happy and don't give a shit what nay sayers or boring squares say. Having said that, I'm not sure about cuffing, now, at age 52, ha. Fine if you do, it's just me being self-conscious. But you should definitely do it if you like the look and want to. It looks good to me. And don't listen to these guys who infer that it look like 'this' or it means you 'that' (like it's try-hard, etc). It doesn't mean shit except it's your clothes, your sartorial choices and your own personal style. And it's nothing compared to what I used to do, or the shit I used to get off the local hicks back in about 1986, 7 or 8.
I've been hitting the gym a lot and my legs are quite thick so I have to wear straight cut jeans. So the hem is really wide and it looks weird and bulky if I cuff it. Any suggestions how to make this work?
Have you ever tried a fit with more room in the thigh but more of a taper when you get towards the ankle? I think “athletic fit” is a term a lot of brands use for this type of fit.
@@guy_5229 i don't live in a rich country so the options are quite small here. Generally it's between slim and straight fit. Maybe I just need to search in more stores. I used to wear slim fit and it was great, but since i lost 15 kg the slim fit is too tight in the thighs.

I usually hem my denim to the point where I can cuff to the point where there is no break. Too high and it looks pretty silly for someone like me with a stocky build.
All i have to say is, wearing skinny jeans won't make you look skinny unless you already are. I see a lot of heavier guys wearing them and that can't be good for your cardiovascular system. Even if you're average build and you wear skinny jeans, you're pushing it
You can wear skinny jeans even if you are over 50 if ur skinny/thin because often they look like normal fit on that bodytype. Also it depends on your looks. There is no set rule for eveeyone.
