This Is One of the Smallest Restaurants in New York

- Every Tuesday, Indo Java in Queens, New York, turns into the hottest spot in town for traditional Indonesian cuisine. And the best part? You’re always guaranteed the best seat in the house. With only one table, Warung Selasa is one of the smallest restaurants in the city, located inside a tiny, two-aisle grocery store. Owned and operated by Dewi Tjahjadi, Warung Selasa has been spreading the flavors of Indonesia in Queens for the past 10 years.

ryan fiesta its not authentic because it was cooked in America?
That Gudeg is pretty authentic if you ask me and i'm from Indonesia
first of all, rendang should be less watery, and the point of rendang is you cook the meat or the vegie for hours, it almost turn into jerky, for me as west sumatran(padang) rendang is like burger to america, american would never call patty that made out of tempeh authentic right?
ryan fiesta no man you're not getting the point and why are you making a burger using tempeh, of course thats not traditional. Use beef. The lady in the video was using traditional indonesian ingredients and you're calling it inauthentic because she an Indonesian living in America.
ryan fiesta Ok first off, she’s Indonesian so she knows what she’s doing. It’s authentic if the person making it was born and raised in that country. Secondly, of course she would cook the dishes in less time because no customer wants to wait hours to eat one meal, even if it’s authentic.

I've eaten in a few places like this, a store with one table somewhere. It's a real treat! It's more like visiting someone's grandparents than going to a restaurant. Lots of places have mostly take-out customers, but forget about that! If something is hot I want to eat it IMMEDIATELY, not wander off with it. Maybe you meet the people a little, talk about recipes or something. I'm not a big traveler, but this experience gives me a little of that feeling, for a few minutes I'm Andrew Zimmern. I think sometimes the people you are visiting are pleased that someone cares and is willing to sit around for a little and not just run off with their purchase. I have heard this several times from places that had a little seating area, they had made an investment in SEVERAL tables and chairs and a teevee and WiFi you know? Hoping to have a little cafe atmosphere. Then they are sad to find that nobody actually sits there, everyone is in a hurry. They don't have to ask me twice!
this is what america is all about, immigrants who work hard to make their dreams work and become a functionning part of society, perfectly integrated, speaking english well but still keeping their foreign identity and culture!
