TRANSLATION OF THE LYRICS:
Once a dark-eyed Cossack girl
Shod my horse.
She asked for a small amount of money
not highly valuing her work.
"What's your name, young lady?"
And the young lady replies:
"You'll hear my name
In the clatter of your horse's hooves."
I rode along the street,
I galloped the roads,
And along the path among brown rocks,
And among gray rocks.
"Masha? Zina? Dasha? Nina?.."
None seem to be her name.
"Katya! Katya!" - was sounded to me
By my racer's horseshoes.
And since that time, whether I ride
Or whether I gallop -
"Katya, Katya, Katerina..."
I diligently whisper.
What a muddle-head I am!
Because I have another girlfriend!
But I cannot get Katya, like a song,
Out from my soul, brother!
Once a dark-eyed Cossack girl
Shod my horse.
She asked for a small amount of money
Not highly valuing her work.
What's your name, young lady?
And the young lady replies:
"You'll hear my name
In the clatter of your horse's hooves."
"You'll hear my name
In the clatter of your horse's hooves."

ORIGINAL LYRICS:

The Original and The Legend who sang it, Leonid Kharitonov which is this guy who has a channel and also hearts people's comments will always be the best one, but I gotta say, there were actually improvements here that was really done better than the original that's why I think this is almost 70% good. These are the parts where I think it was an improvement and was done a little better than the original:
0:59 *everytime the choir harps at the beginning of the chorus, i love that and i often sing along with it*
1:07 *even this trumpet part of the chorus was an improvement, it feels so good to hear*
2:47 *the voices of the choir were now much clearer to listen including the guy whistling did it better!*
3:16 *i have to be honest, this was the biggest improvement when everyone raised their voices up higher and longer and then there was big "HHEEEYYY!!!" and they just kept continuing with such glorious energy in the music and their voices. But to be honest this part right here **5:01** was done even better where after the big "HHEEEYYY!!!" there was now a trumpet being played probably even louder than the rest which made it listening to this song a hundred times better and I'm so glad they did it a second time.* This part gets me hyped up because everyone and all of the instruments are singing and playing with the music altogether with such Enormous Glory and Energy in it. Frankly if I were to rate both covers of the song, I would say the Original had the Best Singer, though the singer in this video was also just good, but even better, he was just as Expressive as Leonid and I love that, and this one has the Best Choir and Musical Instruments, the original was good but because of the poor graphics which was old, it was quite hard to listen to the choir's voices. I can just imagine this being a Masterpiece if Leonid and this Choir including the Musical Instruments here in this Cover or Event were united and performed it. So yeah, the original and this one were both just as good and I love this so much, and I'm so glad you uploaded this Leonid. I would often listen to this and sing along with it especially in the chorus where everyone starts harping at the beginning of the chorus because I love that so much including the part *"Katya! Katya! Katerinaaaaa!"*
Btw, it's pretty cool for a Legend like Leonid who his such a Legendary Singer to still be giving Attention and Hearts to people's comments which is pretty cool and not many popular people does that, and I'm so grateful for that, and I can't believe he's not that popular yet around the world. The Alexandrov Red Army Choir has been probably one of the best Choirs I've ever seen, I'm glad I discovered your channel because of that video of *"Soldier's Dance"* that I found on accident. One of the best Masterpieces I've ever seen. ✨💖✨
Thank you for such a detailed comment! It was very interesting to read it! But I should inform you that Leonid Kharitonov passed away in 2017. I'm his younger son.
@@LHaritonov Oh, I never realized that. It was the year I used to always listen and watch his videos. I'm really sorry about Leonid, but at least he's now resting in peace knowing that he has been a Great Singer. I'm one of his biggest fans and I hope you're doing fine too and keep on making his channel alive! Love from the Philippines!
*RIP Leonid Kharitonov* 😥✨💖✨
@@LHaritonov Sorry for your loss. Its a sad thing. I was introduced to the Alexandrov Ensemble through the video of him singing Dark Eyed Cossack Girl and fell in love.
Forever one of my favourite singers.
RIP Leonid Kharitonov
@@blueraindrop2544 Thank you for this!
Wow, Sans is fan of Leonid Kharitonov, I never would've guessed!
Still a good version, but nothing beats the old legend Leonid Kharitonov. It’s like he owns this song!
Well, the song is literally wrote for Leonid
@@phucgiang395 really? I didn’t know that and that explains a lot lol
Yes, its true.
I think both versions have their magic! In any case, both are extraordinary.
Leonid did it so much better, i must say, because he really was enjoying singing it and was having fun, with his faces and the way he moved. He was in accordance with the spirit of the song.
also his charm and his clothes looked better :D
This singer hss a terrific voice, and I appreciate the differences in the orchestral accompaniment; the neigh at the end made me laugh! So glad the whistler was featured; I've been looking for them. But for me, Leonid Kharitonov's is the definitive version! Thanks for the upload.,
My pleasure! BTW the whistler in the 1969 version was a different person.
@@LHaritonov I figured. I wanted to see if they use whistles, but it doesn't look like it. I think whistling is such a wonderful effect!
You can see, when they sing for the second time, how much more at ease volkov is. As if he felt immense pressure to do it well and then when he was ‘done’ felt a lot of relief and had fun. because his performance gets more expressive as he keeps on singing, especially in the repeat.
it musn’t be easy living up to a song specifically written for one guy, who also sang it with great expression. Leonid Kharitonov was truly a charmer but Igor Volkov did really well here too and its great seeing the choir have so much fun with songs like these. They’re more free and expressive in these ones, its a delight to see. Their smiles and laughs always manage to brighten days, even decades after they have sung it.
its nice to revisit this version every once in a while.
Both versions are lovely.
A bit different, but I still like it.
I would pay all money on the earth that I know to sing like this guy. But Leonid is by far the best solist of Red army choir ever, so no one can compare to him.
5:05 that was so unexpected and I loved it. I keep replaying that part! This entire video is amazing. This soloist did amazing! This is and has been for a long while, my favorite Russian song!
As a namesake of the singer, I have much nostalgia for this version, even though I've been listening to it for *just* 9 years!
It's good, but Leonid Kharitonov's version really is the best - totally captivating!
i think i'm the only brazilian around here, but i love all the songs from Ensemble army. My favorite singers are: Leonid Kharitonov and Ivan Bukreev. My favorite songs: Katyusha, kalinka, korobeiniki, the red army is strong, Dark Eyed cossack girl, Song of the volga boatmen. ♥️🇷🇺

This version is very lively and makes me want to laugh from fun and joy! Both versions are very good.
Russian culture is beautiful.
A classic like this never gets old . One of my favorites. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure!
Man, what a great song to listen to!
I think Igor Volkov sings it just as good as Leonid Kharitonov.
The brass section sounds terrific.
Thank you for sharing it with us!
Thanks for listening

Mister Volkov, I'm sorry for you, but you cannot compete with Kharitonov :)
Volkov was sweating but Kharitonov didn't even had to strive!
*R.I.P Mr Kharitonov, you'll always be my legend*
What fun! I had never heard this before.
God bless the Red Army Choir. Thanks for uploading Mikhail and keeping us alive during lockdown. Hope you're all doing well in Russia. Regards from Glasgow! 🇷🇺🇬🇧🏴

I'm watching this video from Japan. I love your song! Thank you for the wonderful video! ❤
I love this channel, thank you so much for uploading :-)
Our pleasure!
Leonid was the best !
Although Leonid Kharitonov is my all time favourite especially when singing this song, Igor Volkov has his only special way of singing it which sounds just as good despite being a little slower beat than when Leonid recorded it. The slowing down of the song also makes it easier to follow along when learning Russian, which is also nice.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I love mr. Kharitonov's version but this is quite amazing too!
I'm glad you like it
Amazing artists. The best in the world! We will always remember them.
Great way to start my day. Spasivo.
Thank you! My favourite song

Klasse, ich habe probiert, das zu singen. Ich bin Bayer.
Thank you so much for uploading this video, it's my favorite Leonid's song but I've never heard this version before! Greetings from México ♥️
You're very welcome!
i feel really impressive that all member communicate themselves and everyone is smiling until the song is over
This one is more stronger, but Mr. Kharitonov's version is still the best

Leonid is the best.
Till the late 70s it was still the golden age of the USSR especially in music
Hello everybody. For me the versions of the masters Kharitonov and Volkov are great. Many thanks to Kharitonov junior for sharing great videos. Sometimes I travel to Russian, does anyone know where I can find their resting places for these two great singers? found in public cemeteries?
My pleasure! Yes, those places are known...
This is a very funny and nice sounding song, but the all-time favorite is sung by your father!
Amazing, almost better than the version with Leonid Kharitonov.
What a beautiful song. Great quality
I like how lighting fast the original is and how it flows smoothly along with it.
Nice song , nice voice , red face and very tall.
Greetings from Turkey
Linda canção !
So beautiful, thanks.
Our pleasure!
it seems mankind is same everywhere. Because, when I read lyric of that song, I noticed they were very similar to that of some turkish folk songs in Turkey.
Although I don't know russian language, I enjoyed to listen that performance. Regards.
What a powerful voice! So much talent in Russia in those years.
Belyaev and Bukreev. They are at the end of the video.
That's right! )
Many thanks for the music.
My pleasure!
Bravo, es ist ein sehr schönes Lied.
Love it! Than you!
First......
To say i love that
Hmm... I was actually first
I feel sorry for that poor singer. He Must have known he would be compared to Kharitonov..and fall short. No one could outshine Kharitonov, he owns that song.😘
Don't know why this song is such sentimental to me, great song
One of the best performances for sure.
Fantastic
Uma das melhores canções soviéticas
sem dúvida
But think!! This choir had a big joi to only sing! They were paied to sing, but they enjoied it! And it was perfekt!
The trumpet in 5:05 was MAGNIFIC!
This is my favorite version, maybe because is the first I ever saw…
Uma das minhas preferidas
Não canso de escutá-lo.
