This song is about Cossak Soldier who once met a dark-eyed Cossak girl and asked her to shoe his horse. The girl agreed and asked for a very small price. The man asked her name since he liked her very much. The girl refused to tell her name and answered that the cossack would hear it right from under his horse's shoes when he rides it. The cossack started riding his horse and guessing her name - Masha? Zina? Dasha? Nina?.. No, they were all wrong... KATYA, KATYA, KATERINA - the horseshoes knocked her name...!!! Since those times whereever the cossack went he always whispered "KATYA, KATYA, KATERINA"... He was thinking that that was an obsession since he already had another girlfriend. But strange thing was that he could never take that cossak girl's name out of his chest as it was a neverending song inside there...

I have lost my mom last Saturday. This video has been the only thing that gave me a smile during her long hospitalization and passing. My dad was a big fan of The Red Army Choir. I am hoping they will get to see Mr. Kharitonov on stage up in the clouds and enjoy his perfect voice and bright personality. May them all rest in Peace.

Мой папа был офицером имы жили среди военных. Все они были подтянутый, даже не молодые, бравые. Потому, что каждое лето выезжали на сборы в лагеря, зимой сами занимались спортом, мой папа очень любил лыжи и нас к ним приучил. Папы нет уже 30 лет. Но когда я пересматриваю и переслушиваю это видио, то сразу вспоминаются те офицеры, потому, что и Харитонов и артисты ансамбля все с шикарной выправкой. This song is amazing! I think anybody of any nationality (even us Americans) can agree that Kharitonov simply has a wonderful voice. He has just a beautiful tone and rhythm, unmatched by many. This song is hilarious now that I understand what they are singing. I don't always watch with subtitles, because I like the mystique, and sometimes, it's like a joke: if you explain it, it loses value. Here, it's different. He's amazing, he's not just singing, he's acting. You can tell by his dramatic posing. Sometimes, he's playing the role of the solider, and sometimes he's playing the role of the Cossack girl. The part that had me cracking up is when he said he already had a girlfriend. "You'll hear my name in the clatter of your horse's hooves." That line is just such a poetic mic drop moment, it has me applauding. Love Russian music and the epic, and relatable, tales they spin.
He was incredible! He sang with his soul! One of the best singers of the human history!

this song has such a beautiful meaning, by far it has one of the happiest and saddest stories, I first heard the song and learned it, I dont speak Russian so I didn't know what I was saying. when I learned what it meant I fell in-love with it, it truly a masterpiece of voice, instruments and lyrics. the fact that it had a riddle I could not answer, a voice I couldn't compete with, a audience I could only dream of and a story I so beautiful will never tell. How far can a Serb understand slow spoken classic Russian?
We can understand the basic context of some topic. 500, 600 years ago it was one language used by all Slavic people (before reforms were brought and rules established for official languages). On the other hand it is not easy at all for Serbs to speak Russian (nor Polish, nor some other Slavic language) because Russian is a very soft language with soft sounds which are not so characteristic for Serbian. For an average Serb would be easier to learn to speak Italian on a decent level, for example...
