honestly it makes sense. a weapon like the kind he uses while unrealistic would probably be best suited as a defensive weapon. i mean its essentially a bladed heavy shield.

the easiest way to explain cloud's combat style is being a parry god, ive seen so many people just rush in and spam attack while barely dodging when his entire shtick is reacting to his enemies movements and using it to his advantage. Definately top 5 best cloud gameplays ive seen so far.

Cloud's Ctrl + _E_ Punisher Counter game is busted asF...
For weird comparison, Sonic Frontiers Perfect Parry can be held not for 2-3 seconds but 3 FRAMES
Rufus is the best counter against Cloud if you don't block the knockback
6 Shots total for Boosting, attacking, and other shenanigans before RELOAD happens....
Got it first try without that knowledge, so here are some speedrun tips...
-You don't need to move towards Rufus, he's already rushing your location.
-Switch to punisher and counter Darkstar nearly perfectly with huge margin of error as he attacks with any melee blockable attack
-Pressure +Forward Theust
-GO GO MAGIC WEAKNESS
-Save Limit for later
Rufus Only:
-Become Edgy The Hedgy, stand your ground, Operator block the bullets, dodge the unblockable
-Block, the thing that is worse than damage is stunlock.
-Have 1 ATP ready for opportunity
-Get close enough
-DO NOT USE NORMAL ATTACKS, HE HAS PARRY MATERIA ON WHEN NOT RELOADING
-Reload happens
-As fast as you can, pause to the command bar at close but forgiving distance
-use "Braver"

Do your choices during the game affect who joins you during the Sephiroth fight? I just finished it on hard mode, and I had Aerith join first, then Tifa. And I could have sworn on my first playthrough it was Tifa and Barret, but I can't remember for sure.

When i first played remake, i never used materia. I literally only did slashes and abilities. Cloud i basically only used braver and i dont remember anyone else but i literally only slashed in that game. Idk how i did that cause i use magic so much now on rebirth

You should practice counterstance as it deal much more damage than parry and disorder to switch stance instead of pressing triangle it save few seconds and make your combo much smoother

Rebirth is so soooon! What's the little double hit counter Cloud is doing? Not sure I've ever seen that before.
Hell yea! We better be getting that sweet Rebirth demo in a couple of days haha. The double hit counter is punisher followed by counter stance.
Honestly i hated hardmode only for the fact that i felt like i had to do it cus some stuff is "locked" behind the mode
The only thing that was really odd was that the items were completely redundant and you couldn't use them on hard mode just felt off that you could pick up and collect potions and phoenix downs but not use them
Counterstance is actually op, when you properly anticipate the enemy attack
you can also counter by shifting stance to aggressive with triangle at the right time
I didn't really understand what the frog rings were for.
Guess this answers that question.

Ill be honest i also dont use counter that often...until i fight the final boss.. the spirit has too many hit check so i need to focus and not waste time, then sepiroth makes dodge sometimes useless with his wide range attacks. Was suprised to see some people dont play like this also

Nice, but I always found Sephiroth easier than The Harbringer of Fate .
If we are talking difficulty then the Combat training against Pride and Joy is the most difficult challenge for me but only because of Bahamut. If we are talking nemisis in Remake then it is any form of Bahamut. I just have my problems with him and fate Bahamut.
But nothing is as difficult as the Push and Pull- Up challenges... The Tifa one took me 6 hours to beat.
Harbinger is just a filthy unfair battle. On my first playthrough, Bahamut definitely felt harder than Sephiroth. On Hard mode, I’d say Sephiroth has the potential to be much harder if you keep your distance (especially P3 - Lightning Infusion). I guess he really likes Cloud and will go easier on you if you stay with close combat 😂

yes the 3 fate hits like a fucking trunks i manage to only die to hell house 3 times cause i got tonberry the first time around , was not expecting that loll , then onmy 2nd I change weapon or something and the materia didnt comes equip or some shit , i could have reset there but still went into fighting it, and then finally i got tonberry at the very end of last phase with a double kill on cloud and aerith with both tonberry hitting each character in that 1 hit K0 . But even if i didnt die to harbringer of fate , that fight give me nightmares more then Sephiroth fight

Gives you access to unique abilities that will come in handy in certain situations.
Yeah when you mastered counter you are pretty much good to go in this game. I got forced to learn that the more I advanced in hard mode.

You counter by blocking and activating punisher mode before a hit, so it counts as blocking in punisher mode, right?
Yea, and he also counters if you just switch to punisher mode during that small white flash without needing to press block

at 2:06 why does disorder stop him using firaga? I never use that ability but does it stagger or something?
Not quite sure why it does, but i think focused thrust works too, it might just be hitting Seph with a sword ability in general. I chose disorder because it does refund some ATB. Hope this helps.

Haha, no i-frames sucks. For Aeolian Onslaught it’s better to dodge a bit earlier vs at the last millisecond.

Okay so- I was the guy that played for story. I set the game on Easy and mashed attack for 40 hours. Let's say I want to learn how to play like this, how should I do it?
You can try to learn from videos like this, but I recommend watching Bltzz's guides for each character first.

How do you get Tifa come to help first? On my run, tifa came in after Aerith.
It has to do with how you “treat” them throughout the game.
@1C Yeah like he said. I am sure it also involved greatly on the choice you made to help either one of them after falling onto Corneo underground place (the place where you had to fight Corneo's "pet" lol)
So..not that I want to be that “erm actually” kind of guy but
It’s actually decided by what you do in the boss before sephiroth with each character, it’s basically a point system, any character (besides cloud obviously) using an item/ability/spell will gain points and the character with the most points will be the first to join the fight
Besides barret, he has to come second for some reason
Aerith gains a lot more points so she’s almost guaranteed to join the sephiroth battle

equip the Parry materia, then press R1 + circle while in punisher mode (works in operator mode too)

It’s an improved mechanic in Intergrade where holding down the block button in Punisher mode, Cloud has a much faster animation getting back into a “countering stance” from attacks
