      @BeatEmUps what's your Ranking List between the handhelds (Switich,Ally,Steamdeck, and Legion Go) ? Mine would go Ally, Steamdeck, Legion, Switch. Now the only reason why the switch dropped to the end for me is mainly due to the progress made on the Switch Emulators. With those running games better than the switch there isn't a need to pick up the switch you know.

      They are winning big on their moves. And i guess they saw that with their valve index. They owned the VR market with that one. Meta is soon going for the subscription based model. For their FB/Meta socials. Which means. If you want to play VR with your Quest headset, No matter which one you have. It's gonna cost you a monthly payment. Scummy as always.
      I'm seeing Valve taking over the gaming industry, only competing against microsoft. Who we already know won't respect gaming for what it is. But instead only wants profit after they take over.
      Sony and Valve are doing great right now. Though i have to admit. Sony is lacking a lot behind on games lately. I'm not even sure if PS5 has any games that is only for the PS5 yet ??? (But their new VR looks to be pretty cool as well)
      Valve if you like customizing, modding and just freedom in general to mess around with stuff.
      Sony if you find it annoying and just want to play games and have everything handled for you at the cost of freedom.

    For me the huge advantage of the steam deck over the switch is the fact that I have already bought 800 steam games and so would never need to buy a new game for the steam deck. If I rebought the 50 or so steam games that I own that are also available for the switch then this would cost me £1,000.

      For me the advantage over the nintendo, is that valve isn't gonna ban me for installing additional software. It's not locked. It's sold to me to be my hardware that i can use as i see fit. And besides that. I can watch movies on it, straight from a browser. I can watch youtube and jump straight to another web site as i see fit. The switch is lacking so many features it's literally been collecting dust since i got the steam deck. Even my kids don't use the Switch. Not even when i try and pump them up for playing some nintendo. They simply aren't interested in a console that can and will not play their favorit games. (fortnite etc. And yes. You can play fortnite on the steam deck. You just play it through a browser, the delay of playing cloud games is not noticable as long as your internet speed on the deck is at least 30/30 mbps)

      @@gargoyled_drake I very much like this too, it doesn't have a SUPER walled experience like Xbox, PS, or Switch... yet is also has an operating system that feels like your playing on a Switch. But, if you want a full desktop experience, it can also provide and gives you a FULL Linux based desktop. It is kind of the best of both worlds, very user serviceable and a very surprising amount of 3rd party addons and parts.
      I still like you can actually replace/upgrade the main SSD drive if it dies "something you can't do yourself in any of the main three systems Xbox, PS5 or Switch, all software locked & soldered to the board". I think you can remove the one on the Xbox X, but it is 100% custom and software locked.

    This refresh is absolute insanity, and if they did this much for a 1.5 upgrade, the Steam Deck 2 is going to be God Tier. I actually kept putting off getting my Deck not because I didn't want one, but things kept coming up that forced me wait. Now I'm so glad I never jumped in, as this is the perfect time, and it's doubtful we'll get another refresh before the SD2.
    And Valve has already said that's years away, so this should be good until then. The pricing is also great, as the two new OLED models pretty much take over the middle and top tier of the OG deck with OLED and better memory sizes. So not only did Valve offer a better device in everyway possible, you get all that for the same prices as before, this is just nuts(in the best ways possible).

    Wood's final thoughts sums up my own personal experience perfectly, my switch was the reason I got back into gaming, and my steamdeck is the reason I continue to game today!
    The switch was (and still is) an amazing console when it first came out. Breath of the Wild revitalized my long lost love for gaming, and I figured as a casual gamer that's the only console I would need. I was also always a handheld gamer growing up (Gameboy Advance SP, nintendo DS, PSP, etc) so it felt like a waste of money to buy a PC or stationary console.
    But as time went on, the switch's specs couldn't keep up and I felt like I was missing out on so many new games...in comes the Steamdeck. Every AAA title of the past 3 years or so I've been able to play portably! Elden Ring, FF7:Remake, God of War, Cyberpunk 2077, Lies of P, Armored Core 6, even COD: MW2 and Destiny 2 with a little Windows elbow grease! And then I still have my switch for those sweet first party exclusives like Super Mario Wonder and Tears of the Kingdom!
    The Switch & Steamdeck is a double threat and they compliment each other so well. You really don't need anything else if you're a gamer coming from just a switch or an older console generation!

    BTW, if you want the most pristine OLED experience. I would advise for actually getting the 512GB model, as that one has a glossy screen and OLEDs LOVE THOSE. Sure, if you want that ssweet 1TB and better experience in bright environments, the matte version is better, but it sligthly crushes blacks and contrast, something so perfect with OLED screens. Not sure if it just doesn’t come through on a phone screen, but the LCD image here looks preferable. It’s richer and darker. There’s a white sheen over the OLED pic.
    Maybe that’s just HDR, but I’ve also heard the anti-glare etched glass on the 1TB model diminishes the color vibrancy of the screen.

    One of Steam Deck's selling points was that you could install a normal OS/use desktop mode, plugging the thing into a dock and using it as a normal computer. The whole "you have to sit and install Windows" complaint is weak - it's not like you're installing Windows *every time you use the thing*. Also, once you do setup Windows, you then have access to the Xbox app/GamePass games, Epic Games, Minecraft Java (better Minecraft), and everything else you can run on PC (See: EVERYTHING).

It's the only screen in my house that does that to me so. 40Hz mode makes it way worse, so it's definitely related to the screen refresh rate. The launch Switch also used to give me some mild discomfort after long play sessions, but not as bad as the Steam Deck. I thought maybe it was PWM sensitivity, but the OLED Switch and my phone don't bother me, and both of those also use PWM for screen dimming. So fingers crossed the OLED Steam Deck solves my issues! Most PC gamers already have enough games on Steam, Epic, Ubisoft, Gog, Battlenet, Rockstar and Origin accounts that they will have potientally years of gameplay without buy anything else (+ emulation is a doable thing as well).
    Valve (rip SEGA) does what Nintendon't.

    On the Spider-Man cut scenes…I thought the OLED was on the right and LCD was on the left. The left looked so washed out and desaturated until Wood pointed out the right was action the LCD lol.

    Why are the bezels for the SD so small in your thumbnail? I do realize they shrunk the bezels for this new OLED version, but not nearly as much as what you are showing in your thumbnail. I find that pretty misleading of you.

      This comment would make sense if Nintendo hadn’t released an OLED version with virtually no other changes…

    • @metalliholic
      @metalliholic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CaptainEffort true but the OLED switch was released 2 years ago.
      And the OG switch was released 5 years before the original steam deck.
      Either way I Misread the title lol I didn’t see the question mark at the end.

    • @CaptainEffort
      @CaptainEffort ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@metalliholic If anything that makes it worse tho, doesn’t it? There’s a whole 3 years between the og switch and the OLED, yet Nintendo pretty much only added the new screen and called it a day.
      There’s only 1.5 years, literally half of what Nintendo had, between the og Deck and the Deck OLED. Yet Valve pretty much improved everything.

      @@CaptainEffortyeah this guys logic made no sense lmao

    • @metalliholic
      @metalliholic ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaptainEffort I know that’s what I’m saying, why is he asking if the switch is better, when clearly the steam deck is better. Since it’s a lot newer.
      It’s like his title is basically saying “The PlayStation 5 BETTER than the PlayStation 4?”
      I’m just saying the title makes no sense.

    It’s probably the exact same display that the switch OLED used by the way! Very likely from the same manufacturer… that just shows how much valve improved and how little Nintendo did

    Gonna buy this new Steam Deck and one of the main reasons is to replace my Switch. I cant stand that some games run like trash in that so I will finally play some games that I have emulating them on the Deck.

  • @Skymack351

    I have a standard steam deck and an OLED switch. Only reason I've held onto the switch is because of the OLED. I have games specifically on the switch because of the OLED that I really want to play on my Steam deck. I'm probably going to be selling both to get the best of both worlds all in one!

    When my steam deck oled is in desktop mode and I drag the cursor across the touchscreen, it opens translucent blue boxes that can highlight things. Thats all it’s doing now, it was fine and then I think I hit a button or something and now that’s what it’s doing. How can I get it back to normal?
