Excellent tips. The times out sometimes can be conflicting or confusing with new parents that don't believe on time out at all. Sometimes the child needs quiet time along. So, can switch gears and calm down.
I notice that a 18month old child gets really upset starts creaming and hitting his head a lot if he doesn't get what he wants from me? But the parents give him everything!

It sounds like the 18 month old needs to learn calming techniques for when he is frustrated due to denial of his request. I like to remind kiddos “gentle hands” when they hit themselves or others. You can also try to have him squeeze a ball or play dough if he is frustrated. These techniques are best practiced when the kiddo is calm.
