XK A260 Rarebear 3D 6G Stabilized 4 Channel RC Airplane Flight Test Review

Pros
- True four channel aircraft with aileron, elevator, throttle, and rudder control.
- 380mm wingspan makes it just perfect size for flying at your local park.
- Constructed of EPP foam, making it very durable to crashes. I think I had three crashes in this video, with no effect on the airplane.
- Weighs only 75 grams, and does not require registration in most countries.
- Powered by very common 1020 brushed coreless motor. It provides plenty of power, yet should be easily found and purchased if a spare is needed.
- Includes quick release propeller to lessen chance of damage to the propeller or motor shaft in a crash.
- 3.7V 400mah battery provides well over 10 minutes of flight time. I got close to 14 minutes of flight with mine.
- Easily and quickly switchable between 6G stabilized, and 3D unstabilized flight. This greatly helps preventing crashes while learning aerobatics. If you get into trouble, just press the 6G/3D button, let go of the stick, and the plane will quickly level itself.
- The stock transmitter provides up to 150 meters range. This is more than enought as this plane gets very hard to see at 100 meters.
- Multi protocol transmitters can also be used as demonstrated in the video. The protocol is V911S/E119.
- If you wish to use your own receiver, it also has a jack on the flight control board for S-BUS receivers.
Cons
- Does not have an on/off switch. Plane is powered as soon as battery is connected.
- Does not have some features that other similar planes have, such as a stunt button, or intermediate (MIDD) mode for stabilized aerobatics.

I generally skip the 'what's-in-the-box' portions of other TH-cam reviews but I watch yours. You always share some interesting insight into the model you are reviewing. Wow, high rates is almost a knife edge in 6G! I love these little micros, you can fly most of em almost anywhere, cheap and durable, no registration. Although this one needs a bit of space.
Thanks for another great review! Your XK plane reviews have helped a lot in making up my mind when buying these small park flyer planes. So different from the gas planes I've flown for 38 years. These small electrics open up RC flying to new areas and levels.
This Rarebear will go to my XK collection (own 7 XK's now). Rudder issue is the same with my XK P-40 Warhawk. Not so agile and need rudder and aileron for good turning, but good flyer.
I also own the Eachine Mustang. Yes, much better control and transmitter. Intermediate mode makes the world of difference when doing acrobatics.
Way too fun XK plane? XK100 jet. Best 3ch parkflyer for me!

Same Tx case but different guts! This 1 is only for the XK A2?? series planes.
That one seems to fly reasonably well mate. We don't have it but our XK A220 flies like the proverbial aerial porcine while our 2 XK A210s fly fine (if not up to Mini Warbirds/Sport Cub 500 level.) The bright yellow of the A210 is a real boon for Old Farts' eyes as well! The real bummer with the XKs is the lack of a complete spare prop system. You lose the prop with the spinner and clip-on plastic bit and you're done! Though you can pull the whole system off and replace with the whole mount system, prop etc from the V761 planes. The ease of maintenance is a real plus with these though you pay for it with the extra weight downgrading the performance.
The Xks are available for much better prices on Aliexpress and even on Amazon out here.

Got the Eachine Mini Mustang (which is about the same size) and that's fun to fly; looks like this one's a great performer too :-)
I like the design and how compact
Great plane but i recomend when flying with the manual mode to have the rate low because in high rates its very hard to fly and easy to crash
This looks a lot like the Rarebear that Horizon Hobby (or was it Hobby Lobby?) used to sell almost 10 years ago, except without the stabilization.
Great, fun review, with useful pointers:
1) describes multiprotocol configuration (V911S Type E119)
2) decent description of Expert/Stabilized button function, Increased rate button (mostly rudder)
3) Points out blaring deficiency in supplied parts (only has 1 extra propeller=no spinner, no extra propeller protector hubs!!!
4) worthwhile comparison of difference between Eachine vs XK miniwarbird button functions
5) nice compact charger with over voltage protection
6) needs mechanical rudder trim out of the box
7) missing proper screw for mounting front of wing
8) nice banking in high rates (left button= 2 beeps) no tip stalls!
9) nice recovery from near crash after switching from Expert to Beginner mode
10) Demonstrates flying with hobby grade multiprotocol transmitter
11) has 150 meter range
12) as battery declines, DOES give reduced speed as warning (total flight time 13min 43 sec)
13) needs detailed description of special mode control using multiprotocol transmitter
14) does fly with heavier 500ma battery.
Yeah, but number 7, the screw wasn't missing. I just missed installing that screw during assembly. But I was already out in the field, ready to do my review. I wasn't going to drive back just to get that screw. Fortunately I always carry rubber bands in my drone bag :-)

There are several these days. But my personal favorite is the Jumper T-Lite with 4in1 multi-protocol module. But be careful, there's also a ELRS version that does NOT have a multi-protocol module. Here's the 4in1 version amzn.to/3Kwj45W

how begginer friendly is it? and how much space do i need? can it be an indoor flyer
I've seen people fly them indoors. But they were very skilled. This really needs a large field to fly properly and give you room to make mistakes, especially if you're a beginner.

Hey Quad, how you doin'? Do you notice any major differences in the flight between the Eachine planes and the XK planes?
They're very similar in flight characteristics. The big difference though of the XK planes is the absence of the auto stunt button, along with intermediate (MIDD) mode, available on the Eachine/Volantex planes.

I used to fly the XK A180 F-22, can I still fly by replacing the transmitter with this XK A260?
I think that you're asking if you can use the A260 stock transmitter with your A180? If so, unfortunately no you can't. The A180 uses "MT99XX" protocol, which is a different protocol than what the A260 uses. However, you can us a multiprotocol transmitter, like the "Jumper T-Pro" transmitter that I used in this video. You'd select "MT99X" protocol from the T-Pro's menu list. Another good multi-protocol transmitter that's available these days is the "Radiomaster Zorro". Just Google the names of these two transmitters to find out more about them.

I think that you mean Futaba SFHSS protocol. And yes, this protocol is also available in these multi-protocol transmitters.
