I'm a new subscriber! You just helped me make my first beat, I've been rapping since 2018 and I've never made a beat before and your tutorial really helped me!
This video (like so much Dean teaches in the program) immediately transformed my recording prowess. Laying down the beat I need and not relying on presets is huge. As for the vocal treatment it too was incredibly helpful. I've bookmarked this so I can adopt the techniques for everything I record.
I followed along on my iPhone, and did a little different version. I loaded up a GB 808 bass loop, and chopped up a one-shot off it, then ran the one-shot through the sampler, and got a perfect 808 that I played on the keyboard. And came out great. I also used other different instruments like the ARP I used NUMA Player Piano and String mixed together, with the arp function on GB
If your using GB on iOS then it might not have it, only for Mac PC. It might be in older versions GB ios. I have an old version from 2018 on my old phone and is different to iOS version today.
Great tutorial, however for some reason my apple loops has very limited options. I have already downloaded the full loop and instrument library on garageband, however there is no "Tyson Improv" or really any other named individual loop to select. Could those loops be an added download from somewhere else? I'm running a MacBook Pro from 2020 with 11.4 Big Sur. Thanks!
Hey there! Hmm have you tried going to the loops library and typing in "Tyson" into the search bar? If you do that and don't his loops there then I would try clicking the GarageBand drop down menu (top left hand side of the screen) and hover over "Sound Library' and click on "Download All Available Sounds". That should fill our your loops library with every sound GB makes available! If that still doesn't work then send me a message, I have an idea..... hope that helps! -Dean
@@thesongwritingstudio5783 Thank You so much...I clicked on the sound library, however it will not give me the option to download all available sounds , because it says they are all already downloaded..
@@nolidcreations I would try the reinstall sound library option (or download all available sounds option if that is one), then give it some time. If it doesn't show up after that then I have another idea :) -Dean
@@thesongwritingstudio5783 I'm having the same issue. I did the "reinstall sound library" and still don't see it in my loop index. Hello I am definitely going to watch it over and over again but I didn't understand why you were recording over your old recording in the beginning of the video? For example you made a recording and then you recorded something else over that rather than selecting a separate track?
Hey hysteria, to get a controls window you hit B on your typing keyboard. That said, some synths/sounds have different control windows so they don't all look the same or have the same functions
@@thesongwritingstudio5783 just tried, it seems that we have different controls for the same Boutique 808 sound, I have done each step as indicated in the video. Could that perhaps be a plug-in? Hey TTV Btw! The Songwriting Studio apologies if I offended you. Didn't mean to come across as if I know everything! Just wanted to point out that, the beat you were making is not considered a trap beat. Maybe the track didn't sound as good because you didn't mix it but there are certain instruments that do work well for certain genres. Not all of GarageBand sounds are the best but there is a lot you can do by tweaking the settings and stuff like that to get a really polished sound. PS I do watch your videos and some are helpful. @@The.Ghost-8976. I hear you, appreciate you sharing more thoughts. The Songwriting Studio yeah man, a few instruments I like to use, remember that I also use mainstage sounds integrated with GarageBand. Once you've added that guitar, go to the modulation plug-in and there is a setting I think called scanner bravado which adds a really nice tone to the guitar which makes it sound less cheap. There's two kicks in there which is perfect. There is also two really good piano sounds, again go to the library, the logic category and then go down to keyboard and piano, once that you see another category called walked I think, and there's a piano called motion piano I think which sounds really good, also in the keyboard and piano category there is a piano called pop piano which is nice and clean. These are just a few instruments that work well, I have quite a few that I go to. I do make primarily trap/R&B type beats but I've started working with drill beats. Surprisingly I found some really good sounds in garage band to accommodate this new wave of genre.
