      I know, sorry. Especially the grinder with no face shield x two people at once. Let alone we also don’t use a grinder anymore, we use the nibblers.

      @@Deckbuilding Be safe out there. True story, I had a grinder saw disk explode and pieces of it stuck in the ceiling. That would have made goo of my eyes.

    This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things th-cam.com/users/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

    There are a lot of people on here that say, "I would…" Let's be straight here. I have seen these buildings constructed with many different methods. Having said that, I would not comment whether one is better than the other. I chose to watch this video to gain perspective, not to having a pissing contest. Hefferman Company did a great job putting this building up. Facts are facts. Solid construction and a easy to follow video for any person who has the drive and knowledge to want to build their own. *Just for the record, I have no affiliation to this company. I am simply a viewer looking for different perspectives on this type of project. Thank you Hefferman Company for providing this video. It was very useful. :-)

      Well said. A DIYer, I'm pretty darn handy with about everything. But watching how the PROS did this gives one some insight into what you're doing wrong, AND what you're doing right. One thing without question. These guys did quality WORK. Shortcuts are fine as long as they have no detrimental effect on the finished product. But taking the TIME to fit the pieces together correctly assures the weather isn't going to ruin your building before its time. Fit and finish COUNT. If it looks bad, it likely is bad. Conversely when it looks GOOD, you can pretty much take to the bank it will perform as hoped and expected. I'd have foregone the concrete floor for cost savings. But a home built 48" water filled pipe roller will make a darn nice floor. And water kept off will make it last. Plus that pipe roller will come in handy for driveways and so forth. Great video. Great building.

    Thanks for sharing. Some come to learn from others or to see what others have done. Some just want to show everyone what they think they know. Please forgive all the subject matter experts posting their unsolicited opinions. Wonder why they would waste their time watching this as they are far more experienced and don't need this information and have accomplished so much more than most of us.

      Cindy's husband Carl here. I'm an expert at building these pole barns. What is needed is insulation in the roof, a moisture barrier otherwise the roof will drip inside. The wood will rot. It's called osmosis. So if these so-called experts are going to show people how to build a pole barn, then show them he correct way.

  • @jackt6112

    Thanks for the well-done video. I've never built a pole barn.
    To your critics, I've worked in US and Europe on a few construction jobs. I've listened to the drivel from inspectors why their methods are superior and make assumptions based on faulty logic why other methods they've never used are inferior. What I've learned is, first comes the construction methods. Then they construct the logic to support them and discredit all others. LOL! Thanks again.

    Nice looking barn. However, I noticed one thing you forgot to install was the bug stop under the ridge trim.
    I found it useful to have the crete poured just after the trusses are installed. This gives the light necessary for a good finish as well as several pour locations making it easier for the crete installers.

    Craig, even with pressure treated wood, those 6x6 posts are going to deteriorate without a means of shedding water. You may have just not included how you drain any water that may infiltrate the post holes, though. The rest of the work, in my opinion, is excellent.
    btw, I realize you may not want to give away all your secrets. ;-)

    Most of the construction and structure looks fine however I would use a different footings and use slab. For that size of structure you would want to make sure there will be no future problems with the foundation.

      We would show you different footings if the video wasn't " How to build a pole building" In this video we show the standard way to build a pole building using holes, concrete, and 4x6 treated posts. As for the size, they build pole buildings 40ft wide by 200ft long or larger. So put down that doobie and stop being so paranoid, lol

    Congratulations on a top presentation. I am however curious as to your local health and safety regulations concerning working at heights. In Ireland the leading cause of fatalities on construction sites is falls from heights. Your employees, while no doubt consummate professionals form what I just viewed, were working from a single plank suspended from ladders. In my country, a health and safety inspector would shut down the job site due to the absence of scaffolding. Other than that, bloody good job!

    I guess safety is not a big concern. Do the home owners know that if any of your workers falls or is injured on the job they as the owner could be held liable. No Fall arrest (from 4;38 to the end of the show), no guard on the table saw (7;21)...other then that Great Vid.

    Pretty good practices. The roof is a problem though. OK using a metal roof, but never use exposed fasteners! Those screws with rubber washers will always fail as the rubber cannot stand up to the extreme heat, cold & sun!

    • @dshooks
      @dshooks 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I built a pole building using screws with neoprene washers 13 years ago in Northern Michigan. Never had any leaking even with 4 feet of snow on the roof and many rain storms.

    • @bobwhite3356
      @bobwhite3356 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave Shooks I still don't trust those washers, especially on the roof. Rubber, neoprene, or what have you doesn't have a 100 year useful life span especially outside in the Sun's UV and heat. It looks like the metal siding people are trying to pass the siding off as roofing. A good asphalt roof should last 20 to 25 years with minor general maintenance; a metal roof should last 5 times that. Caulking or replacing all those screws is not general maintenance. I would use a standing-seam metal roof that has no exposed fasteners for my roof and the same metal siding for the outside walls that the video guys used. The metal siding might make an ok metal roof for a small shed.

      I said this earlier, but..... I'm not a pro, but an experienced DIYer. I just built a 24x36 foot pole barn. The inspector required - - again, THE INSPECTOR REQUIRED - - the screws to be placed in the gullies. He explained that screws driven into the ridges allows wind lift to dent the roofing around the holes, loosening the metal roofing and causing leaks. I was sceptical so I contacted the roofing manufacturer (Fabral) who stated that installing screws in the ridges VOIDS THEIR WARRANTY. However the inspector also required a bug shield fabric in the ridge vent, something that was not shown in this video.

    A metal roof like this with no plywood underneath will make a lot of noise when it rains, right?

  • @ChuckD59
    @ChuckD59 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lotsa comments by the time I show up so someone may have already caught this, but I don't think that's plywood being sandwiched for the garage door header. I looked at it pretty close a couple times and I believe it's just particle (3:50).
    All in all, a good docu on a basic way to build a "pole building" although alot of the accessories look cheap (starting with the gutters, then there's that "plywood") and good god, faux shutters? Seriously?
    But a solid build anyway, thanks.

    Last question?
    Can these buildings be zone two fitted for coastal line areas?

    Lovely building.
    Shame it’s build on sticks in the ground.
