- This quick tip video walks you through how to sign a PDF document received via email using your finger, stylus, or the Apple Pencil. Many businesses send PDF documents via email, which may require your signature and the return of the document. Eliminate all those extra steps of printing, signing, and faxing the form. I know when I was working with an agent from Medicare Savings Plan (which I got accepted to) I had to esign...it took me about 2 hours to figure out how to do it....dont ask me what I did...i just used whatever program came up and signed it......But today, I brought your video up and went to my ipad where I figured it would be easier than a computer to do it, and you explained it so good, I brought up the old document that I had to use in Sept or Oct and practiced on that....Piece of cake. Being that I'm 70, I wrote it down on an index card, so I wont forget. TY!!!!

Sounds so easy I assume when the iPAD is configured correctly. Unfortunately when I open a PDF (either from mail attachment or going to a link where the PDF is deposited) I don't even see the markup sign. I have tp press share the document to then see on the pop up menu the markup. Something is clearly wrongly configured. After signing I have only 2 options save or discard. There is no mail option or share option. So I hav to save it and then go to mail attach it to a mail and send it out. Clearly not the way it should work. Very frustrating.
I’m sorry you’re having this issue. Have you tried it with a PDF that’s already on your device? How old is your iPad? Is it updated to the newest iOS?
Hello, I tried opening a email letter on my iPad with pencil. I clicked on body of letter then scrolled to the bottom but it wouldn’t allow me to sign the letter. Also I never seen the pin icon at the top right hand side.
Hi Jimmie, the email that you’re opening must have a PDF document attached. It’s the PDF document that pops up in the preview window for you to sign. If it’s just a regular email you won’t be able to sign it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
How do I do this with AOL mail ,please?
Hi Michele! If the PDF is on your device open it and then tap the pencil icon. Now tap the three dots and choose signature. When finished attach the PDF to your AOL email. Hope that helps.
The problem is, this signature is not secure.
The recipient can edit the PDF in something like Adobe, and edit the content while keeping your signature on the document.
You can lock the PDF after you edit it if that’s a concern. Thanks for commenting.
Hello, when using this method on MAIL to open a PDF, a field opened requesting a password from the owner. Would that owner be the sender of the PDF? None of my usual Apple passwords opened the document to save. Please let me know.
Yes it sounds like the sender password protected the file.
