Installing a 40FT Shipping Container Shelter | Expanding The Workshop! | Part 2

  • See how we install our 40ft shipping container shelter dome and cover without any instructions! The weather wasn’t the best for this installation but it needed to get done and we soon realised after unpacking the kit that there was NO instruction manual supplied. But we had already hired a 4WD trailer mounted boom lift for the day so decided to get it done anyway. This shelter dome is 40ft long x 40ft wide and 6 metres tall and will be installed between our two 40ft shipping containers. This is going to be a great upgrade for our outside welding & fabrication area!

      I totally agree. Karen’s filming, camera angles, lighting, editing, now-and-then talk over, and constant support to Curtis to explain, are all at the highest level. It often takes a second genius to explain/show/make plain the work of a genius. I think this is the pair we have with Curtis and Karen. Karen, thank you so much for bringing Curtis’ multi-dimensional expertise out to the world. It clearly is requiring your own tremendous multi-dimensional expertise.

    I have 6 of these at my place. On my second year with them. So far I have been happy.
    Piece of advice: The brackets That attach to the containers need to be welded to the containers or at a minimum the Allen keys checked monthly. They do back out and slip off. Had 2 shelters fail on the same day where they slipped off the square tubing on the top of the container. Bent up the frame a bit and I had to remove all my junk to get them repaired.
    Also everything underneath does still get wet in the rain because they are so tall with or without the wall up.
    Good luck. Love my extra shade.

    • @chestervaldes7551
      @chestervaldes7551 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, I think I would add the welds as the massive square footage of the canvas can create huge lifting forces on the frame, even with a moderate breeze- anybody with any sailing experience knows what I'm talking about.

    A surprise video to be sure but a welcome one. Container shelters are awesome for all kinds of work for all trades. We’ve used one in line with a smoko hut container and on those 40+ degree days a shaded work area is a god send and being so close to an air conditioned ice box was fantastic. I can attest to these kits not coming with instruction manuals but with a quick TH-cam video they aren’t too bad to put up.

    I've used these Nifty Lifts from Kennards. After a long and loud day I realised it was battery powered and you don't need to start the generator every time you use it. Try it out next time, Kurtis! Makes for a much quieter work day 😂

    Great video as always, and a bonus one at that. Massive kudos on the shelter. I live in QLD and would greatly enjoy seeing some "unamed southern state" union safety rep watch footage of this solo construction project. Crane, WAH and EWP in the RAIN, all on a weekend... just real work done safely and carefully. Their head might actually explode.

    It's clear to see why you have been so successful with your business. You're a hard worker and when something needs to be done and done right, you don't make excuses and put it off. You roll up your sleeves and get after it. I have a lot of respect for you and you're work ethic. My hat is off to you sir. Great job and Karen, awesome job on the video and narration. But now I'm spoiled....I want 2 videos every week! Haha!!! All the best from Montana!

    That's a great addition for you, congratulations on a job well done. I'll have to say it was exhausting watching Kurtis climbing up and down all day long and well into the night. And Karen's voice over was a perfect complement to the video giving a great explanation of what was happening. Cheers to both of you.

    The more you install, the drier you will be! I have to say it's very strange to see you working with such "flimsy" metal, Kurtis. Normally it's like a $4,000 solid piece of induction heat-treated chrome bar stock, not tent poles. Good videos, keep it up mate!

    That was absolutely brilliant. As I was watching I was getting more excited as to how the outtakes were going to be. I would have been much more “animated” with my reaction to missing instructions and parts and give one hell of a bolllicking to whoever sold me that. By the way …… would love to know what this kit costs. Even with all the BS you had with it, it does look like a pretty good design. I would love to know how stable its going to be if one end is left open. It seems like it would be more likely to acting like a balloon with the open end. I think I would want to have some way of closing off that second end.
    Love the spider of death comment……. That thing did look a bit sketchy. You did amazing to accomplish so much basically on your own in 24 hours. Your body must have been feeling it with all the climbing up and down involved. You definitely could have done with your brother there the first day too.
    Thank you both for taking the trouble to produce this video. We would have all driven you crazy if you suddenly just showed up with a completed shed and nothing to show how you did it.
    Poor little Homey was definitely very upset to see his dad hanging about in midair like that ….. he knew you were risking your ass up their.
