Great video! I'm hoping my next bike will be the Versys 650 so very interested to see how the tank comes off! I've fitted booster plugs to other bikes and they definitely make a difference. Nice one fella 👍

    How good are these bikes?

Personally I think they are wonderful. I’ve sold it now and miss it badly 😢. The only thing I would change is give it more power.

Your experience with this situation differs from ours.
My wife bought a new Versys 650LT in late 2018. She was a newish rider at the time, this was her fourth bike.
The low-end fueling was simply awful. I consider myself a Kawasaki brand fan, having put hundred of thousands of miles on them over the last four decades, and I was appalled at the throttle response.
This is a problem very widely reported; even the Versys fans at Motorcyclist/Revzilla admitted to it. It certainly was the bike's biggest fault for those who had to ride in traffic.
My description at the time was that it was a Yamaha-like throttle. That's bad.
So my first try at correction was the Booster Plug. In short, it made little practical difference, such that I removed it and neither of us could really tell much of a difference.
Subsequently, I had the ECU flashed by Shoodaben Engineering in Florida which resulted in a noticeable improvement in low-end fueling but not a complete fix. Better, the highway smoothness and power delivery was distinctly better in the 5000-7000rpm range.
In the end, she traded the bike in at only 2,200 miles on a Ninja 400 and to this day, the word "Versys" is a dirty word in this household.
Too bad, I was able to get some demo rides on the 2022 and 2023 versions which were way superior in engine management to that 2018 edition, to where I'd consider owning one myself.

Very surprised to read that, I’ve traded the versys for a z900 now but I’m considering buying another for my longer trips. I absolutely loved the versys and if it had another 20bhp I’d probably never have sold it. Good luck & ride safe

William - Did you try adjusting the Throttle Position Sensor? I heard another Kawasaki rider say that made all the difference. I’m a Suzuki rider and the V-twin bikes such as the SV650 and 1000, and the V Strom 650 and 1000 have this problem bad between 2K and 2.8K RPMs. Adjusting the TPS fixes this. It provides more fuel lower in the RPM range, (around 1.8K), so the engine isn’t starving in the 2K range.

@@TheSteveSteele No, she simply traded it in on a Ninja 400.
It was a nice enough bike with great suspension and luggage, but awful fueling that she just didn't want to deal with.

@williamzeller294 strange. I've owned sv650, v-strom and versys 650 for 3 years now. No real fueling issues.
