  • Did you know there is a right and a wrong way to open a bottle of wine?
    I say that because I see so many people struggling with a corkscrew, or people opening bottles badly, thinking they’re doing it OK.
    And not just friends of mine! Professional waiters and sommeliers too.
    I imagine some of you are laughing as you’re reading this… But when I see people learn how to open a bottle with a shoe, a screw or a pump but they have no idea how to use a corkscrew the right way.
    So I decided to do a video to show you exactly how it is done the right way.
    Make sure you subscribe to our channel to get all our latest videos and goodies.

    Even though you did rotate the wine bottle slowly I still would recommend to cut the foil without rotating it. You do that by scoring the front and then then the back then rotating your wrist around the bottle

    You missed a very important reminder at the end. You should never place the opposite side of the cork to close the bottle with the leftover wine. It will definitely contaminate it. Use a wine stopper instead if you're having difficulty putting it back the initial way.

I've always known how to open a bottle of wine BUT...did learn that I was indeed cutting the foil in the wrong place. Small detail but, important. On a related note, I totally prefer a traditional, waiter's friend corkscrew, and the joy of opening a bottle by hand. Those vacuum sucking, Rabbit gizmos simply don't do it for me. lol.

    Hello, I had a question. I have absolutely no sense of smell. Is there another way to check the cork besides smelling?

    • @jjdiaz2
      @jjdiaz2 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just check to see if the discoloration on the cork goes all the way through to the top of the cork. If it does, then the wine may have been exposed to air. Also, I was told that smelling the cork was a terrible way to tell if the wine is corked. That's also why the sommelier always pours a small tasting first. You tast the wine to see if it's corked.

    This video mentioned that cutting the capsule in the middle of the bulk is the perfect way to go, though it's hard. I've heard this before and keep wondering about the origin of this tradition. Sadly, no one I ask seems to be able to provide any context and there are basically no references online. The best I could figure out so far is that it probably originated in France. I'd be glad if you could give me any information you might have :-)

    • @Intovino
      @Intovino  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sebastian,
      It dates back from lead capsules and not cutting at top ensures there is no contact between the wine and the lead which is actually poisonous (although the contact would be far from poisoning you). It is more hygienic.

    • @Intovino
      @Intovino  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Christian, thanks for your reply. The cork is normally not supposed to actually smell of cork; if it does, it's a clear indication of a corked wine.

    • @AstiWines
      @AstiWines 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Christiaan, the tradition of smelling the cork began in restaurants. The Sommelier would open the bottle, pour it into a little cup, "Tastevin" (very old school and done primarily in the winery) and check the cork. It's less cumbersome and more "polite" to have the customer smell the cork than hand the bottle to them for them to assess the wine.
