    As a beginner in this, I must say that I appreciate you explaining things the way you did. I have an old TP-Link router, set up as a bridge ( thanks for explaining that as well ). I followed your instructions which were explained slowly and voila! I have everything going well. I will be looking for more of your videos. Keep up the good work.

    Good video, May be you should have tried to explain all possible ways the physical interfaces can be configured to. I was especially looking for a way to configure the WAN interface of my OpenWRT flashed Linksys WRT1900AC router in bridge mode with ISP provided Huawei FTTH ONT.

    Just finished setting up my wireless access point with your quite easy to follow instructions, was great to find someone who explained it so plainly and easy, whithout not feeling overwheelmed, (this is my first try at openwrt), the devices I connect to the network connect to the internet, but what I'm looking for is to have this network completely bridged, the router has it's own IP segment so devices connected to this router won't see the ones connected to the main one.. is there a way to completely bridge the network? (I'm using this router as an extender) thanks again,

    • @HoddysGuides
      @HoddysGuides  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you could look into vlans but really if your setting it up as an extender then you it can be very difficult, might even be easier to use your router to block the ip address manually outside of it.

      It's really difficult for me to help diagnose without the physical device, first thing I would try is downgrading to the previous version of OpenWrt it may be they introduced a bug in the latest version, if that fails head to the OpenWrt forum and look for threads or create one about your device and hopefully you will find people with the same device who can help, hopefully this helps!

      Depends on the router, i would suggest looking up a "debrick" method for your router and that would be the process you would need to do to go back to stock firmware. It will all most likely be detqiled on the Openwrt website page for your router. Thanks, good question.

      Sounds like they both have the same ip address, disconnect one of them and connect and you should be able to get to the openwrt one, then from interfaces change the static ip address to another free address, try doing a nework scan with an app like "fing" and then use any address thats free.

      It can work any number of ways, hard to understand what you are trying to achieve with what you've said but you can either have an independent network off of it, or you can use it to add to the original network, be mindful that if you're adding to original that you need to disable dhcp. Otherwise, make sure your firewall is setup correctly to allow and block traffic in the right directions

    • @HoddysGuides
      @HoddysGuides  ปีที่แล้ว

      If im reading correctly, you would just set your internal network to IPv4 if thats your prefrence, setting of port forwarding is relatively trival on openwrt so shouldn't be an issue. Obviously, it goes without saying that opening ports in any router is very dangerous for security and shouldn't be done unless you are sure of what you are doing.

    • @HoddysGuides
      @HoddysGuides  ปีที่แล้ว

      @leebuckley4873 Well if your router is compatible with openwrt then it will likely work, i would head to the openwrt wiki and check if your device is and the method for install of openwrt, if so then go ahead and install OpenWrt, be sure you know your ADSL settings (username password) before you start as you will need these to setup in openwrt. Failing that i would use a compatible router (or setup openwrt on another device) if you current router can use DMZ then forward everything to the second router then portforward though that and setup DynamicDNS from a free provider like No-IP to get around your ipv6 issue.

    • @HoddysGuides
      @HoddysGuides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will do it the future, but videos take a long time to produce/write. What you need to do is make sure both devices are on the same IP range (you can edit your openwrt router to match your ISP's) then you need to make sure that both routes arent the same address (e.g ISP's might be 192.168.1.1 so make your openwrt 192.168.1.2) then both devices are running but you have 2 DHCP servers (which is bad so disable 1) the simplest way is to disable DHCP in openwrt, after that all should be done, however, any other issues are probably firewall related so make sure its settings are correct in openwrt

      My first suggestion would be to look at the diagnostic pages but im sure youve already tried that. What can help you figure out the cause is to disable the firewall (obviously temporarily) to see if thats the cause which it most likely is. You can go in to processes and stop firewall (it will come back on after reboot). If you stop it and you gain Internet access then you know its your firewall config thats causing the issue

    (Gargoyle firmware)
    On the Connection> Basic page leave "Alternate DNS" as "Allow clients to use alternate DNS servers", and enter the OpenDNS servers as the Custom DNS servers.

      So there are a couple of different ways to achieve this, probably the simpler one is to set the ip range of openwrt to match your isp router (make sure they arent both on the same number) then turn off the dhcp server on one of them. That should be all you need to do.

      ssh root@192.168.1.1
      opkg update
      opkg install luci --force-depends
      reboot
      That should get you luci, looks like you're saying something about LED's, if you cant login to luci or SSH after install id follow any debrick guide you can find on the router. Sorry if this hasnt answered you questions ill translate it later and try to help more

It was very strange for me as I was getting full speed on my official firmware. But in openwrt it's the complete opposite. So as a layman I concluded that Openwrt isn't compatible for my Router. Its like the IRS, most people don't report their full income & there isn't really anything they can do about it. You get paid cash, & who knows where that money is, you would be stupid to report selling a used computer locally as "income" but legally you have to report it as a capital cost, unless it somehow went up in value.
