New Guitar Day - Fender Poblano Stratocaster

  • In Today's video, Paul From The Studio Rats is looking at the Fender Custom Shop Ltd Edition Poblano Strat Relic.
    Based on a 56 Strat, This alder-bodied guitar has a few differences. 1 being the pickups and 2 the baseball bat neck like a 1950s telecaster or no caster.
    Here is what Fender says about the Poblano Pickups.
    What’s behind the spicy sound of Custom Shop Hand-Wound Stratocaster® Ancho Poblano pickups? It’s simple: The secret’s in the sauce.
    Available as fiery new option for Custom Shop builds, Ancho Poblano Stratocaster pickups are a special sonic recipe, with each pickup individually calibrated from neck to bridge. Each pickup is also uniquely overwound by hand for a wide range of high-output tones. That makes them ideal for the player in search of the perfect amount of heat-from vintage with a kick to Texas-style bold to full-throttle blistering-and plenty of flexibility.
    No matter how serious the spice, every buttery note and nuance of Ancho Poblano pickups shines at any volume. It’s all thanks to a super-secret formula in which the pickups are “simmered,” offering plenty of texture, resonance and complexity-even when the tone is at its most punishing.
    By moving the selector switch, players can unlock throaty Ancho Poblano tone while taking their output from warm (in the neck position) to scorching hot (in the bridge position).
    Unlike the neck and middle pickups, which feature custom staggered alnico 3 pole pieces, the bridge pickup also sports flush-mount alnico 5 pole pieces for plenty of quack in the second position.
    Want to hear more? Check out this video to hear the Ancho Poblano pickups in action.
    The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

    I can dig a tastefully done relic but this is about two notches too much for me. Well if it gets dinged up in a gig and it does not affect playability it does not matter anyway but if the back of a neck gets a deep dent or the frets get dinged up and need a level/crown it matters regardless of the relicing. I like big frets on a maple board but hate the trussrod at the heel of the neck with a fiery passion. Cool guitar though

    • @maxpeck4154
      @maxpeck4154 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand the appeal of jumbo frets. A properly crowned narrow or medium fret has the same string contact area as a properly crowned jumbo... and since jumbo frets are wider, as they wear down the contact point will be further away from the center, thus affecting intonation more dramatically than a narrow/medium fret.

    Sounds very dark for a Strat which I like. The bridge position can be harsh but that sounds great. I’m afraid the heavy relic is a bit much formy taste but I’d live with it for the tone and the thick neck. As you say, you wouldn’t worry about it being dinged at a gig! You shoulda just showed the paisley one and not the other one, so maybe you are getting rid of that one already, although I didn't care for the sound of the paisley one as much as the red one, but don't get me started on why the "relic" thing is also meh since obviously plenty of others have covered the argument for you to address it at the top.

    Those Poblano pickups sound great Paul, although they have too much output to give the classic SRV ‘bell like’ Strat chime they offer big, fat, sounding Strat tones. Particularly great for studio recording where the blue and black Strat’s will give you a wide dynamic range of Strat tones to fit the song and the mix.
