The best Strat I've played in 45 or so years of playing Strats. The fat neck and those pickups just work beautifully. I have the white one which is reliced but not quite as heavy as yours. Nice video mate!
Gorgeous guitar, i love the heavy relicing, but my god, those pickups are incredible sounding. Looking forward to seeing more of this guitar in the future
Agreed. I’ve been playing a lot of CS strats in my search for “the one” and the ones that have really perked my ears have been the ones with the poblano pickups.
I can’t agree more! I do have Poblano Singlecoils in my Custom Shop HSS together with a Pearly Gates in the bridge and the Poblanos are by far the best Singlecoils that I ever heard/played.
Just tried one of these out today , I wasn’t looking nor do I need another strat but this guitar was amazing, really pulled me in , I’m thinking about it 😵💫 great playing and review / demo as always
I wasn't really much of a fan of relicing but this is winning me over. Excellent playing and tones as usual. I can see the logic in not worrying about the odd extra ding or two. 😊
When it's done artistically it's quite effective ,my only `hate' is a templated relic, I guess it could always be remedied with some inconsiderate handling
There are recognizable motifs in your playing, which I think allows for a terrific comparison point when you do something like this-introduce a new guitar. I’m also grateful that someone who loves playing guitar and can afford nice guitars isn’t shy about acquiring nice guitars.
@@TheStudioRats They came stock in my guitar from factory. Here’s a video of the guitar I have but I of course changed the pickguard with crazyparts nitro aged mint one. th-cam.com/video/JSnTqoIKNbQ/w-d-xo.html Cheers Paul!!
I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this one. I've now gone in search of a Poblano-equipped Strat or probably what should now be called the Paul Drew Signature Model! Got to get one!
Love those pickups! My CS Aztec Gold Strat has Bone-Tone pickups and they are quite similar, because you don't get that harsh bridge sound, you can really play in that position! ♥
Wow! Watching on tv while I type. You have changed my view of relics. Man those frets look jumbo n awesome!!! Oops I couldn’t manage the fat neck. Any road up. It looks awesome and you rip some awesome strat sounds, licks n riffs. It’s found a great home in your hands. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸back to the telly to finish enjoying. ❤I’ve always wanted a DG Strat too. Got me a black squire 50s fsr maple neck with with black scratch plate and I fitted Fender hot noiseless pups. Love it. 😊
I love a relic guitar. It sounds amazing, congrats. My number one’s a Black Tele, Roasted Maple Deep U Neck, Ash body, Lollar 50’s pickups, Gotoh Bridge; and it’s Medium Relic’d
I recently purchased a Ancho Poblano strat with a AAA flamed Bat neck, love it, the jury is still out on the pickups for me though, I think I need more time with them I think I like the HW texas specs better if I am going with a hotter strat pup.
Love the sound of that guitar. Beautiful intro, what reverb were you using? It sounded like the Slo pedal. Fun side note, don't know if you noticed this but if you have captions on during your guitar playing, sometimes TH-cam thinks you guitar is saying thank you from your guitar notes. Pretty cool.
@@TheStudioRats mine is a 12” radius. How are you liking the pickups? They are one of my favorite high output strat pickups. I’m more of an offset guy, but really like these pickups. I hate ice pick strats.
This is the video I’ve been waiting for. I kept checking every day but today I didn’t check until late. Great guitar Paul and always great playing. It seems people respect you because very few anti relic posts. Unlike other channels where they go on and on as if it’s their guitar. I believe in letting people like what they like. I like it. I think it’s great for you. Paul can you take us with u with video when you go buy new gear? Just asking. Even when you’re doing trades. 😉Anyway, I love it. Love the SRV playing. Those Ancho Pablano pups sound great.
I have the same 1 in/1 out policy but i just agreed to a trade plus a bit of cash to the other party: my 2016 violet prs 10 top for his fcs r51 blackguard with a chunky V neck w 9.5 radius..but its a journeyman relic. But i have a heavy relic 57 strat with a neck almost as trashed as your one! I love it. Anyhow just not a prs guy.
Something that struck me when the guitar was in its open case was that it looks like it's battered and bruised but the pickguard appears to be in pristine condition. It sounds tremendous though. And the mass of the neck may contribute to the tone but I couldn't play anything like that when I'm a Modern C kind of guy.
Fab guitar! I do love a relic. What’s size are the frets? My touch isn’t good enough for really big and tall frets (like the PRS DGT). Don’t mind narrow tall though
great and tasteful playing as always. I love really big necks. and this poblano strat sounds great. but I have to say - I even liked the sound of the blue strat a tad more…. may I ask which model this is? and if it has a big neck, too (at least a large c). I‘m right before buying a (for me) new strat and am thankful for help. thanks!
Sounds very dark for a Strat which I like. The bridge position can be harsh but that sounds great. I’m afraid the heavy relic is a bit much formy taste but I’d live with it for the tone and the thick neck. As you say, you wouldn’t worry about it being dinged at a gig! Got yourself a sweet guitar there Paul. Enjoy.
Nice Paul... How many guitars does a hobbyist actually need? P90, SINGLE COIL, MINI HUMBUCKER, FULL HUMBUCKER guitars.... Not to mention guitar shape etc???? Nice topic for a video?
Love this video. I am on the verge of getting one of these. How do you feel about it after a few months? It looks, and sounds, amazing in this video. Great playing.
Hi Paul. It's hard to judge when we don't know what you signal chain is. Amp opr modeller? mic cab iR etc and effects please? I owned a Pblano Strat and really couldn't stand the pickups. My Fave pickups are late 64 or early 65 grey bottoms real Pre CBS though Rod at Slider Pickups in Au gets very close. How you can love a nocaster neck as a decent player with some reach is beyond me. What a dog of a neck shape. Slim C for me thanks.
I am a fan of your videos haha I love your fender Custom shop, I would like to ask you these poblano pickups that your Strat comes with are signed by Josefina Campos which I understand are limited or are they always made by another person from fender?
Yeah they’re not cheap and people would argue if they’re worth the money. I really like CS fenders, and 90% of the time they increase in value over time. My first CS I bought for £1200 it would be worth double that now.
Those Poblano pickups sound great Paul, although they have too much output to give the classic SRV ‘bell like’ Strat chime they offer big, fat, sounding Strat tones. Particularly great for studio recording where the blue and black Strat’s will give you a wide dynamic range of Strat tones to fit the song and the mix.
I can dig a tastefully done relic but this is about two notches too much for me. Well if it gets dinged up in a gig and it does not affect playability it does not matter anyway but if the back of a neck gets a deep dent or the frets get dinged up and need a level/crown it matters regardless of the relicing. I like big frets on a maple board but hate the trussrod at the heel of the neck with a fiery passion. Cool guitar though
Well Jumbo Frets, it's general opinion that if you'd eat an expensive plate in a well known restaurant it must be good. Well, the bigger lobster isn't always the best. Namastè.
I don't understand the appeal of jumbo frets. A properly crowned narrow or medium fret has the same string contact area as a properly crowned jumbo... and since jumbo frets are wider, as they wear down the contact point will be further away from the center, thus affecting intonation more dramatically than a narrow/medium fret.
I like relic guitars, but only where the effect has been achieved through natural wear and tear. I can't see the point in paying extra for someone to damage the finish on a brand new guitar.
But you already GOT RID of the one with the over-the-top "relic" finish and the great pickups. ??? And then bought that other one with meh pickups... You shoulda just showed the paisley one and not the other one, so maybe you are getting rid of that one already, although I didn't care for the sound of the paisley one as much as the red one, but don't get me started on why the "relic" thing is also meh since obviously plenty of others have covered the argument for you to address it at the top.
Oh, you got rid of some green one. Don't know if there was something wrong with that one. Probably not. My guess is it must have been a good deal at the time? I never know which of these guys get employee discounts and such that they can just turn over guitars that cost four times what an average band guy can likely afford.
