    Gorgeous playing, Cooper -- as always. I definitely think you hear an acoustic resonance emanating form this guitar that really stands out

    Never really been into the relics but I like this one. I like how the pickguard looks around the edges as well.

    I never understood the relic appeal but this one is fantastic. I wish I could sell my used car with its dings and say it’s relic’ed.

      If you ever get into the watch hobby, there is a similar style that’s popular. People want the look of vintage watches that the luminous markers have turned brown from age, dials that have turned “tropical”, etc. All with a modern movement, solid bracelet, super adjustable clasps like modern watches offer. Like vintage guitars, vintage watches can be worth 1000%+ over the original list price. Some people like them NOS, some people want them super “patinaed” that tell a story of the owners of the watch over time.

      @@BJester91 I love watches, Grand Seikos are some of my favorite's. I believe would pay for what they like, I am just not one of those, I like my stuff looking new if I pay new prices...to each their own which is totally fine.

      @@rami9712I’m a fan of adding my own scratches and dents to my watches, just not on purpose lol. I would rather my guitars look new. Although a worn in neck sounds like it would feel nice. One of my sales guys has a Grand Seiko, it’s a beautiful watch! Spring drive is very cool.

    Great video, just as always. Is ash wood much better than alder?

      tonewood doesn't alter sound on purely electric instruments.

    How’s the nut cut on this one?
    I purchased one of these in Army green from a shop on Reverb (so unseen) and the high e was falling off the fretboard and the low E was too far in on the fretboard.
    It had some other quality control issues too, so I returned it.
    However, I keep thinking about it everyday and the HW Texas Specials sounded amazing too.
    Maybe this is the one for me :) ?

    • @kanga-blue
      @kanga-blue ปีที่แล้ว

      lol man that is an easy fix. You loosen the neck screws and reangle the neck correctly and retighten whilst held in the correct position. It's NOT the nut being cut incorrectly.

    Still not at level where I can appreciate relic guitar. But still like to see them doing this even if it maybe not purchase one here.

    I don't like relics and I'm undecided on roasting of guitars. Ash rocks though and the grain on this instrument does look amazing. Just a taste thing, but I generally only like lighter pickguards, like white or mint, though this t-shell goes quite well with the natural wood. Very nice presentation of the video, Cooper. Though I don't neccesarily agree with your view, it's interesting to hear what you think and as always you sound genuine (and laid back!) rather than just giving a sales pitch. Appreciate the genuine approach and the skilled playing.

    This is gorgeous. I’m no fan of relic-guitars myself, but I don’t really get that vibe here. It looks like one that got bought and rarely played.
    I have a natural-finish Telecaster that I hope ages this well.

  • @kanga-blue
    @kanga-blue ปีที่แล้ว +2

    No details on the neck depth @ 1st & 12h frets and shoulders. If its true to a real vintage 61 is should be think C at 1st tapering to medium C @ the 12th. Also a natural finish wasn't offered until the 70s so it is vintage incorrect and looks like a hippy natural refin! An aged Blonde over ash would have looked way better with the tort guard and would have been vintage correct.

    I simply don't get the whole relic thing. Whoever came up with the idea it is pure marketing genius. Build a new guitar, take it, rough it up so it looks like it has been played forever and whammo sell that sucker for a fortune. Problem is it is still a new guitar no matter what you do to it. Just buy a nice new one and play the shit out of it and it will end up looking like a relic guitar.

    • @rexrathtar3893
      @rexrathtar3893 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't value a relic finish, but your comment suggests you do. Your assessment basically equates to: new guitar + long effort = desired end result.
      In which case, someone paying to cut out the long effort makes sense.
      From my own persepective, having a beaten up guitar would never be the desired result, so it would always be NOS for me.
