The love between a father and a son produces the best young men.
    Welcome back Sr. Darcy.
    Cheers from America.
PS. unlike so many fake reviewers on youtube who provide only positive reviews because they are given products to promote rather than critique, thank you for your honestly. As it turns out the public...some at least, can tell the difference.

Good to see you back. I bought a NX500 recently as a second bike as I wanted a practical, economical, do everything, easy to live with machine that was cheap to buy and it hits the nail squarely on the head. Just completed a three day 600 mile tour around the north of England and the Scottish Borders in some pretty horrendous conditions and sometimes you just want a bike that’s easy to live with. The wind protection is great, it’s sit up comfortable and really light to manoeuvre around and has a tank range of 300+ miles returning over 80mpg. As for cleaning, it’s a quick wash down with a hose and soft brush, 10 mins max (there’s nothing to polish) and a spray with chain lube once a week (mine has a centre stand). It’s not a bike to be precious about, it’s a workhorse, and that makes it very easy to like.

@tf9888 It would have been an ideal model for the muddy conditions that Darcy's father encountered. Maybe that model was never sold in the UK.

The Honda CB/NX 500 is a great bike for economical touring, it handles well and my wife finds it very comfortable when she rides pillion...all bikes are a compromise but mid size Adventure style bikes are particularly good for taller riders who like the 'less is more' approach to motorcycling - horses for courses! I've recently ridden a Victory and a Thruxton, both offering a visceral experience that I can really appreciate for a short ride.....I hope the relocation goes well. Cheers. 👍

You trimmed your beard! Welcome back ol friend! Glad you're doing well. Boy, you live long enough (I'll be 69 in August) and you endure the battles. You overcome them. When you're older overcoming the usual physical pains takes way longer. I have to push myself to gear up and ride. I know I'll be sore after an afternoon of riding that puzzles other riders when they see my snow white almost Billy Gibbons-esque beard peering out under my helmet!
My father hated motorcycles. He equated them with Hells Angels. In fact, he gave away my motorcycle back in 1983. He's gone now. I ride.
Please, Darcy and Sr...... don't take it for granted. I would have loved to have a father who shared a love of something together with me. To ride with me.
Ride safe. Ride together. Some of us long to have that bond. I'm a lone wolf I guess now so seeing you two together? It's like nice wool socks and heated grips. 😉

Welcome back! Your struggles to find the sidestand on the Honda and your comments about practicality started me thinking, when exactly did the motorcycle manufacturers decide that we no longer need centerstands? Apparently they all agree that we need lots and lots of chains, but no centerstands to help service those miserable chains. Only Royal Enfield haven't figured it out yet, they still give their bikes centerstands.

    • @splodge5714
      @splodge5714 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

It happened with Sports bikes. My 1987 GSXR1100 had no centre stand. Weight, ground clearance and maybe looks were the reason. I never missed it.

Welcome back ole man! As far as the new NX 500 is concerned, it is typical Honda. I love Honda, have a 2012 Goldwing in the garage and my 1st motorcycle was a 81 XL125 back in my youth, so I’m not a Honda hater. With that said, I think Honda missed a very good opportunity with the new design. They had a chance to really hit a home run, but settled on a walk. What does a home run look like:
Swap the crank for one with a 270 degree crank to give the engine some character.
Two piece seat with adjustability 800-850 should do, think new Himalayan.
Make it a true ADV give it 21” 18” wheels with 200-220mm travel, think CF MOTO 450MT.
One button ABS and TC on/off.
Cruise Control would be the icing on the cake.
Honda could have dominated this lower middleweight class that seems to be growing hotter by the minute, but Honda apparently doesn’t want to swing for the fences.

part 2: Jawa still produces two-stroke motorcycles that were brought to production in the 1990s (Jawa 350 Style),
but also the very nice model Jawa 350 Retro (design from 1970s). The conception of the two-stroke engine is much older; it basically goes back to 1970s. Due to a licensing deal with Mahindra, motorcycles with the brand name JAWA Motorcycles are produced in India and also imported to the Czech Republic (Jawa's were very popular in India a long time ago).

Nice to see the Old Man back! 👍 I'll be very interested to see the Jawa review, as back in 1963 I bought a 250cc single Czech-built one, new from Pride & Clarke in London. It was my sole transport for my 150-mile return commute to my military base and the bike was bulletproof. I liked it so much that in 1984 I bought a 1970-model 350 Twin, completely refurbished it and kept it for 15 years. Wish I still had it and, if they were now imported into Oz, I'd definitely buy another.

Nice to see the ol’man back. I ride a CB500x and agree with most of what you say about the NX. The design isn’t very exciting and the engine is a bit buzzy but that is because it is geared very low. It’s a 180 degree crank so doesn’t sound as good as the modern 270s, that being said I stuck a cheap Ali express can on mine and it sounds pretty good. Ride safe gents!

I am watching this while sitting in my tent in the Karoo Desert with my KTM 1190 Adv R next to me , my iPhone in one hand and a flask of whiskey in the other. Been riding around Southern Africa and entertaining myself in the evenings with TH-cam biking channels.
Now camped under the southern stars and full moon after 700 Kms of riding today … I did up to 220 kph on some long long isolated tar roads today and a tad slower skimming over rocks, corrugation and sand of the immense desert trails - the KTM is made for this terrain. Does the fast tar and off road enduro stuff and is extremely comfortable on pegs and sitting down - all day.
But different horses for different courses - I know Darcy and ol’ man like the chrome machines and especially dislike adventure bikes.
In U.K. I keep and ride my Royal Enfield which is ideal with Britain with its twisty roads, country lanes, speed cameras, traffic jams, and “rain”.

The only trade-off is that you'll need to ride a bit further to get to the good roads. Such is the plight of all big city dwellers. Get back into your training too - it's hard to overstate how much better a person can feel once he gets back onto a training schedule. That should make it sound like it looks! As for this Honda, it is like the Honda CRV. Adequate and inoffensive with looks that pretend some off road prowess but there is no passion! It’s as exciting as a refrigerator.

Great to see the "auld boy" back 👍! Totally in agreement with your thoughts on modern motorcycle styling, but then I'm coming 70 this July and ride a Triumph Street Scrambler and a 1979 Moto Guzzi Spada, so perhaps an "old fart" point of view...🤔. Looking forward to seeing your look at the Honda CBX1000. Of course it was Benelli who beat them to it in launching an across the frame 6 cyl production 'bike in 1972 with their Benelli 750 "SEI". Great to see your channel doing so well, very much deserved. Keep them coming, cheers

As much as I appreciate Darcy's work, I feel more kinship with the Ol' Man, first because we belong to the same age demographic, second because of the love of cameras and photography, and (admittedly to a lesser extent) the weight training. I recently restarted under medical surveillance after years of stopping due to health issues. But above all, because of our similar motorcycle sensitivities. Maybe also because I share a love of motorcycling with one of my kids, who happens to be a former moto/auto journalist and now works for one of the major importers here in Canada. So welcome back, Mr. Darcy's dad. Changing subjects, while the sound of the Honda CBX six really is amazing, the most incredible sound ever produced by a motorcycle has to belong to the Honda 250/6 which you saw at Honda UK's headquarters. For many years the only running example of a 250/6 was right here in Canada. One year, 40(ish) years ago it did a demonstration lap at the F1 Grand Prix. I was there and the sound has remained indelibly imprinted in my memory. Even on the damp track, you could follow every single rise in rpm, every single gear change, at every part of the Gilles Villeneuve circuit even as the rider respectfully kept the revs well away from the 20k rpm redline.

Happy to see the Old Man back-must confess I thought the absence was due to medical issues so I am happy to be wrong, although property purchasing is such a royal pain a heart attack may have been preferable! You are right about older Hondas, I used to love the 4 cyl CB550K from the 70s, such nice balanced looks and a lovely motor. The CBX will be great to see, can't wait for your review. Speaking of 2 strokes, I wish someone would make a new Yamaha RD350 like my old bike. Thanks for the best motorcycle channel around and good luck with the move.

Yeah, that NX ain't very vintage looking, but as modern bikes go, I don't think it looks bad. At least on the side I can see. Simple, compact, symmetric. It would look infinitely better w/o those blah black wheels. Put some wire spokes on that bad boy and it would liven it right up.

I really hurt my back recently, and my XSR has become hard for me to ride. I went to a suoerbike factory and they recommended this. I have to admit I didn't like the looks but boy was it comfortable! If my backs still playing up in a month I will probably make the switch. There is no point having a cool looking bike you will never ride when you can have the right bike for you that you could ride daily.

An ixil exhaust will make that engine sound a lot better. Don't know if it would be street legal in the UK though but I had one in Ireland and it really improved the sound of the Honda parallel twin.

Such a shame Spain is no longer an option, but I can see why you never ever want to move again. Sounds like you have had a complete nightmare the last 5 months. Home sweet home.
Rutland is a very nice area. I don't live too far away myself. Rutland Water, Melton Mowbray, Stamford, Burleigh House and the Wellend Viaduct are all very pleasant to visit. I do a nice ride taking in Oundle, Harringworth, the viaduct, Uppingham, Melton, back to Stamford, Rutland Water, Wansford, Stilton. Some great riding roads.
    I can't see what this Honda NX500 offers that a CB500X doesn't? I would prefer the CB500X.

part 1: About Jawa: A Czech company, indeed. Founded in 1929 by Mr. Janeček and still producing motorcycles. Never got broke,
but went through difficult times in the 1990s after a significant drop in production.
Name comes from JAneček (founder) and WAnderer (German company, does not exist anymore).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the video. Like the laid back approach to your content. Yes, that little Honda NX500 is actually a very good bike, albeit lacking a bit of character; typical Honda, but they know their market, customers and modern mass produced trends. Personally, if I were looking for a mid-range adventure bike it would be Guzzi’s V85TT.

The CBX came out when I was in my late teens, lovely looking bike and they used to use one as the Marshalls bike at Brands Hatch. My heart was set on the other 6 cylinder bike at the time, the Z1300 from Kawasaki. That said I ended up buying the RD350LC when that first arrived.
Light and fast, just what a 17 year old needs 🤣 (I wish I still had it).
