    I will say Reverse Isekai as a whole seem to have a pretty decent track record, at least from the one's I've seen and heard about. There's no played out formula or other BS like in regular isekai and they're not nearly (if at all) as focused on the whole OP wish-fulfilment. This, Devil is a Part Timer, and Re-Creators are all reverse isekai and they couldn't be any more different from each other.
    I really liked the show, but there was that small partof me that was a bit let down that it wasn't more like Durararararararararara and Baccano.

    I enjoyed this anime, I’m more into detective series than isekai anime, so I was invested in the mystery. I did feel like there was to much pointless dialogue at places, and the story definitely did drag though.

    • @KBWanime
      @KBWanime  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is definitely more along the lines of a detective show than a normal Isekai. I see what you mean about it dragging. I didn't mind it because I like the characters enough, but I think it's partially the storytelling philosophy of the author. He likes to show all of the world and characters being connected and them discussing everything. A lot of it was also to build up things that haven't happened yet though. The second part is coming out in a few months and I think that'll probably make it a lot better.

  • @buggydes

    I gave this anime 9 episodes before dropping it. Way more than I would give most series and that's because I enjoyed both Baccano and Durarara. All along i kept thinking "ok, things are going to pick up soon". Perhaps it will, and if it does in season 2 or 3 in the future then I might give it another go. As of right now, it's just not doing it for me. The pacing after episode 3 is rough. Could be just me, but I also find the MC'S voice hard to listen to. You know, the whole deadpan, flat, calm but with little fluctuations. Which would be fine if the dialogue was enjoyable to read, if it was phrased in an interesting manner which it was'nt.
    Side note:
    I was thinking it might read and flow better in the manga (maybe?) but i don't know. Never read it. Anybody has any thoughts on the manga?

      I would suggest reading the manga to see how you like it but from my experience…it’s kind of the same? You’ll learn more things about the plot and ask more questions, but the buildup didn’t live up to the hype imo. The plot gets pretty cliche up to the later chapters when it comes to the MC

    • @DaGRAV3
      @DaGRAV3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rolicemmanuel977yeah idk, the author was trying to make something work but it didn’t really pan out. They started using hella cliche troupes up until that most recent chapter.
      I think it has to do with Polka as an MC - he isn’t all that interesting compared to the MC of Durarara. He’s pretty bland and his goals are generic tbh. The other characters are what kept me reading since they were more interesting had better overall designs.

    The biggest complains I have seen of people is that there are too many characters and plotlines. Which is understandable honesty, if you are into that you will absolutely LOVE DMDP, but if not... Yeah, you better find something else.
    But the other complain is much more simple to solve. People complain that this doesn't move forward with story, which would make sense usually, but with DMDP it is a LOT more complicated.
    You see, the main point anyone can infer from this, is that we, even as readers, know very little about the world and conspiracies going on. And the characters are in a worse spot than us in this. Which is apparent from the sheer amout of maybes and what ifs they go by. This is a little frustrating, but it makes sense narratively, and it doesn't get annoying/uninteresting because WE don't know much more that the charcaters anyway, all we can do us compare all their theories and come up with our, more general, hypothesis. The true fun in watching it arrives from comparing all the info we get, measure its accuracy and piece together a coherent picture of what actually happed.
    Which brings me to the main point, DMDP is not a story taking place in just the future, but in the past, present and future at the same time, figuratively of course.
    All the talking characters do is important info to grasp their knowlege, involvement and personality. We combine it what we know for sure and try to piece togeter a proper picture of 'what happended?', at the same time the plot is also moving forward, albiet slowly, and giving us more hints, so we can use 'what happened?' and :what is happening?', to get an idea of 'what is going to happen?'.
    DMDP is not for everyone, not if you want just a normal watching experience (understandable), not if you dislike over the top silliness (understandable), not if you dislike situations that could seem too edgy sometimes (understandable), not if you dislike overly complicated plots (understandable), and ESPECIALLY not if you want to get all the info spoon fed to you (understandable but annoying if start whining instead of just accepting it).
    But if you like it, you will absolutely LOVE it like I have (Also you don't need to be smart or super sharp to enjoy it, you just need to try to understand what is going on and how it relates to what has happened. Even if it turns out to be inaccurate, you will still enjoy it.)

    • @KBWanime
      @KBWanime  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely. One of the things I love about it is its unpredictability. In an interview extremely tightly written plot, even if the reveals are good, it's predictable in that everything you see you know is gonna come back in some way or another. Here, you have no idea wether this character introduced is gonna be a huge player, gonna die soon, or disappear for 5 episodes before showing up again. It's a vibe you have to buy into, but once you do it's a really fun ride.

    Since I read the manga, i also have an opinion. People slept on this anime. The part 1 story in this Animanga is purposely made on purpose at first. This is intentional for the introduction of the respective characters and their motives. However, the longer the storyline, the more interesting it is because the characters here are made as if they are alive, so the author takes different characters' POVs to clarify their development, goal. And that's the interesting part, for example in the current episode, all the characters head to one place with different goals. We are made to understand about those who want to solve this mystery, and in the end it all comes together in one place with different pov's . Whether it's the protagonist, cast, or antagonist. Eps 1-12 is only part 1 which is mainly intended for character recognition. The real thing will come soon, it will appear at the end of part 2.

    Watching dead mount death play, it kinda seemed like a crime org apologist, like what's with this illegal freelancing, does it have any redemption or something of value other than just medium of power struggle, and the classic Japanese "necessary evil" plot, like having a soft spot for kids isn't really much to levy on(not having it for claris would have been better, big bad shouldn't have such convictions, cause it hinders with what I should expect about them) really gives me the vibe that characters like claris are simply single minded, it's just buisness kind. Frankly I felt the MC would go like, "we don't do shitty things but we are friends with shitty people". I just wanna know if there is more to it cause I don't think I wanna go with a story that calls out others for their wrong doing but not a single bit of self introspection. Depending on whether it has any greater than self kind of motive. I can't really watch an anime or read a story where at the end of the day it only caters to the main characters having a happy or some ending, I like the ones where at the end of the day things change for the good, real good, like the poetic justice kind.
    This really is my preference, i started watching this show thinking MC got a chance at living with peace but somehow still holding to his rectitude, along with his struggling friends trying to make sense of the world, not the go with flow and secure peace kind of MC.
    I simply want to know if I can put my hopes into this show, or should i just forgo

      I never got the impression that the story was trying to portray anyone as morally justified. The most moral person is probably the one cop trying to rid the police force of corruption. Most of them are just people doing what they want for their own selfish reason and some are more selfish than others.

    I'd rate it 6/10. The concept of reverse isekai is interesting, and there is some mysteries that keeps you watching. However, there are too many new characters being introduced in very short time, which is a turn off for me.
    I always compare other anime with AoT now, so excuse me. Compare the mystery of the basement in AoT with the mysteries in DMDP, the former keeps you guessing until the end of season 3, and is the central theme/mission for the main characters, while the latter, who ordered the assassination of Polka doesn't seem to be too urgent; The other mystery, the symbol, is quickly revealed in just 1 episode.
    New character introduction: Compare how AoT introduced Zeke/Beast titan in S2, it's a slow buildup, and we didn't know who Zeke is until late season 3. In DMDP, new enemy appears in succession in the space of just 1 episode, and they are all powerful.
    I can already picture another battle-shounen. So, not too looking forward to continue after ep 15.

      @KBWanime  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah. I totally understand that but aot is like a totally different genre. There is a lot of characters and things kinda happen at random, but it's like a purposeful choice. The city is a living breathing thing rather than setting up character arcs and pay offs and mysteries.
      If you come at it from this perspective it's a much more enjoyable show, but I can still see how it wouldn't be your thing.

    This anime suffers from scope. The premise is excellent, characters likeable and approachable, along with a main protagonist that people can latch onto. (the whole bad guy with a heart of gold stuff). However, halfway through the first season...as a viewer, your dealing with half a dozen plots threads, all with sub plots, and a never ending onslaught of new characters being introduced that it makes your head spin. By the end of the first season, you even have an secret umbrella organization that overshadows the rest and takes center stage! shunting the previous 10 episodes in a closet for later.
    Honestly, spending a season in the murder bar with our 3 main characters investigating, then brutally murdering, a killer-of-the-week sort of thing, with the 2 Detectives chasing them...would have been fine. Wait till season 2-3 to introduce another section of the city, or another band of secret assassins...idk, grow the world naturally as our MC gets stronger or more acclimated to his new setting.

    this is a mid anime at best, the type of thing I would need to turn my whole brain off in order to enjoy it

      you had watched two episodes and you said this is anime is mid. i agree with you that the first two episodes were boring but please give this anime a second try. It would be better from episode to episode!

    • @fran13r
      @fran13r ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vhice7057 is not that they're boring, the first episode's fight was amazing. My problem was with the incoherent decision making that we just have to accept because the author or the studio or whoever the hell didn't care to justify them.
      It's like fleeing from pablo escobar whilst saying how horrible life in a drug cartel is and the next thing you do is join a group lead by some dude called el chapo. (if you don't get it, el chapo is another famous drug lord)
      Idk how the author fumbled the intro so badly, it's literally the easiest thing in a story
      I'd ask why the hell you like this anime but it's probably gonna be something about some characters being interesting to you, but honestly think about it for a second, are they unique? this thing smells like tropes all the way down

      @@fran13r2 episodes are not enough to decide if characters are unique or cliche.
      And I can say with confidence all characters are unique and feel real just try to watch more of this and you might understand. But then again, anime is not the perfect medium for a story life DMDP, manga does it way better narratively.
      Also, your example does not fit very much, since in his previous life he was chased by a military of a theocratic nation, not assassins.
      And even if we assume that they could be considered assassins, his decision is still not a bad one. You need to think a little more to realise why. Polka Shinoyama is not being chased by one assassin organisation, but many. To him allying with them is his only choice, because not only will it reduce the number of organisations after him by one, it also allows for him to settle in this world properly, since he was unable to extract the memories from polkas body fully, he had not much idea of his family and could not exactly count on them to help even if he did.
      Also he is from a war torn world, there it is natural to find your self fighting someone to death and then trusting them with your back the very next day. So he already used to allying with enemies. And he doesn't trust the assassins anyway, except misaki who is now one of his undead. He even said that as the last resort he will extract information out of them forcefully if needed.
      Thau series is not perfect, but the amount of plotholes is very few. It's just so complicated and confusing that you would need to think about what you know to be able to piece together what is happening. (Yes, it is exact opposite of 'turnoff you brain' you seem to be putting it into.)

      @@fran13rAlso, the tonal shift I can see being annoying. It could be a turn off to a lot of people, and nothing wrong with it, though I don't mind it personally.
      But, sorry to say, all you other points I can't help but see as innaccurate, characters putting aside weird stuff actually makes sense, since they are either insane (Misaki) or "spoiler alert* involved somewhat is supernatural conspiracies (Clarissa)*spoiler end*. Everyone else reacted as you would expect from people in underworld. I agree their reactions were not hyper realistic, but they do make sense with the narrative.
      And the character predictable? You decided that in two episodes?
      Take this from someone who has read this manga several times, most of the characters are insane, and far from predictable. Even when their goal get revealed, it is always a sense of ambiguity to what they will (a little hard to explain without major spoilers).
      If it's not your cup of tea, I don't blame you and it's alright. Though I do hope you won't give false criticism without knowing full picture.
      Sorry if I sounded rude.

    I feel like they are setting up too many variables and that there is no active "arc" to set all these character , baccano managed its 13 eps meticulously.
    I hate the female zombie/vampire , the anime in particular is goofy and too serious at the same time , its a mess .
    I didn't know it was made by Baccano's author but after knowing that i judge this even more harshly

    • @KBWanime
      @KBWanime  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a lot more like Durarara than Baccano. I like its messy story, it's chaotic and mysterious. It's just a massive collection of events. It's not for everyone but I think that's cool.

  • @stephenchung8233
    @stephenchung8233 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    i totally disagreed with u, the first ep is the only best part of this anime, I thought I was gonna watch a berserk alternative anime, after that, the other eps become a complete cringe feast, pretty much all character personality is so unrealistic & unrelatable in a bad way, and try hard to be edgy (especially Misaki ) , thus pretty much all anime following this trend of ''travel to another world'' honestly it's no longer that surprising to me, so is it a good twist? absolutely not, the problem is not the idea of traveling to another world, is the story, its so damn boring and uninspiring, I would say this anime is gonna be one of those types of anime that no one will remember soon or later.

    • @KBWanime
      @KBWanime  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The twist wasn't that it was an iseaki, it was pretty obvious to me that it was a reverse iseaki, but who was iseakied was supposed to be the twist.
      I agree it's got a very specific style that is edgy and unrealistic, but I still love how it tells it's story. It has similar style to Durarara and Baccanco and those are both very loved shows so I don't think this will fall into complete obscurity. It's a very original and extremely interesting story to me, but if it's style isn't for you then you'll never like it.

    • @frlidrtm98
      @frlidrtm98 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since I read the manga, i also disagree with you. The story in this Animanga is purposely made on purpose at first. You literally slept on this anime. Eps 1-12 is only part 1 which is mainly intended for character recognition. The real thing will come soon, it will appear at the end of part 2.

      It sounds like it's not your style of story. But if you made it that far, I'd recommend at least watching to episode 12. It's a slow burn that leads up to some much bigger things. There's a million small moving pieces and it's extremely complicated.

      @@KBWanime I’m fine, the only character I like is the hacker who’s hilarious, but every other character makes no sense. FireBug villian was getting great until they show it’s just an imitator so I’m back to knowing nothing, fell asleep when the detective saw the symbol on paper, that detective guy is boring, the MC is boring, the psycho killer zombie has no depth, the half glasses bar lady’s only role is to undress with other chick sexually because why? story?, The hacker is thee only creative original chatacter with emotions and growth, him they did well, all others are so random and unmotivating.

    • @KBWanime
      @KBWanime  ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the mysteries so the whole Firebug thing is really interesting to me. Zombie killer girl gets some depth a little later on and starts to develop as a person. The main character isn't the most interesting, but he has some really cool aspects about him. The hacker has gotten more developed in the last few episodes. He's really interesting. I agree there hasn't been a lot to the detective himself but the things he's investigating and the politics around his job are really fascinating to me. And yeah, the bar lady just being naked randomly in scenes is totally pointless, but her character is vital to everything going on. The randomness of the cast is actually what I love the most about stories like these.
