Oh well, it's humanities problem now. We have more than enough energy". This was the timeline that madoka defeated walpersnaught and became a witch. Maybe it's the same selfish goal all living beings have. Maybe they just want to extend their own life for as long as possible and their lifespan is so long that experiencing the end of the universe before the end of their natural life span is a real concern. I suppose from their perspective they nothing wrong.
Yeah exactly. Logically if the choice is end a few lives or the entire universe ends, then it's hard to argue that it's wrong when the alternative is everyone dies. It's not exactly that, but it's the way Kyubey thinks.
Yeah, but incubators are also responsible for humanity's evolution. Without them, we'd still be in caves. And with the universe ending, maybe we wouldnt even get to present day. So... Still justified in the end. But being strictly logic, they could have preserved humans since they are such a valuable energy source, I dunno, evacuating some on a spaceship.
No. They are just evil. As can be inferred from some of his conversations, there are other ways to get the energy, this way is just the most efficient or easy. They don't have to destroy human souls it's just the easiest way to the goal. That is evil.
@@GodwynDi from our point of view. For a being without the capability of feeling, being evil isn't possible. It's like saying bears are evil because they hunt but can digest some vegetables. Kyube’s actions remind me a lot of the first level of Squid game where the people are told they are playing a game for a lot of money but never mentioned that they will die if they lose. Kyube did not care about any of the girls he turned ‘magical’ he just wanted to take advantage of them for his own personal benefit without warning them ahead of time about the full extent of what the deal entailed.
If someone tells me to join a game wherein I could win so much money with just a few challenges, first things I would ask is what what if I lose or what do they get out of it. Nothing is totally free.
It's not Personal Benefit, Kyuube is just fulfilling their job of keeping the Universe Going, if the Universe doesn't keep going people die anyways, so is it the Many or the Few who you want to save here?
@@durk5331 The universe isn't dying until billions of years. They are doing it for energy, and sucking as much energy as possible in a short duration. They could easily play it safe and work together with humanity. Defending Kyubey here is like defending Colonialism. Humans are a lot more powerful than you think, if their "energy" is really so important. Then they just need to first become aware of the alien neocolonialism taking place, and organize themselves to forcefully demand greater benefits from the Kyuubey aliens. Since Kyubey is willing to make contracts then that means he can be reasoned with, but this time instead of giving contracts to children, it will be the international community
The girls freaking out over the big reveal about soul gems just proves his point in why the incubators target girls their age. Pmmm is an amazing series for the fact you don't necessarily need someone to blame.
Not sure if it's in the Manga, but in the Anime Kyuube mentions that giving boys a wish are very rare, as their emotional states aren't as easily as manipulated as girls are and they rarely become witches as a result.
i had no knowledge of this when i clicked on this video. i really thought that was some digimon thats had committed MORE warcrimes. now i got a new show to watch thanks.
Kyubey does a number of things beyond "what is necessary". He literally says the energy from the girls is ONE of the best resources. That literally means there are other ways to fuel the universe besides what he's doing, he just chooses not to. This is different from predators feeding on prey, who DO need them to survive, and in the case of humans, they kill animals humanly, while the girls suffer greatly. Kyubey also makes the excuse of how the consequences of the girls becoming magical girls means they eventually become witches by saying "Why didn't you ask?" Like who will ever make that jump in logic to ask? That's like giving a little kid a bomb and telling them that the timer counting down is a clock, which technically it is, and when the bomb goes off, the dying kid asks why you didn't tell them it was a bomb and you respond with, "Why didn't you ask?" And the final nail in the coffin, Kyubey doesn't just offer, he coerces and takes advantage of and manipulates. How many times did Madoka turn him down, only for him to repeatedly come back when she's in distress or in danger or emotionally vulnerable and try to coerce, even emotionally blackmail her, into accepting a deal from him? So he's not just placing a deal on the table and giving them the choice whether to accept or not, he's intentionally being forceful and deceptive. These things are what push him out of the morally gray area and into true villainy, because he has ways to fuel the universe that wouldn't cause others to suffer, but he willingly chooses not to take them, is deceptive about his actions that allows him to use people, and coerces into forcing these tragic fates on others.
To be fair we don't know what the other best ways are, they might take up more resources and time than making magical girls does, and so methods of energy collection that are less demanding and that help to (in part) fuel other methods of energy collection are necessary to do, as well. We also don't know that these other methods don't cause suffering, in fact it's despair that seems to be the most potent source of energy. Also, Kyubey pursued Madoka the most because of her huge potential, he wanted to harness all her energy. Plus he follows any girl with potential anyways. Kyubey doesn't tell the girls about the consequences and ramifications of the contract because he doesn't have to, it's not at all logical to sit there and list them all. The only reason we would want them listed is because of our emotions. All Kyubey needs to achieve his goal (universe preservation) is the girl's wish and their resulting energy. He's not thinking about whether or not the contract's effects are fair to them personally or if it'll emotionally affect them or their loved ones. All that Kyubey knows is: 1. Find and follow girl with potential and offer her a wish in exchange for fighting witches (he needs to tell her about fighting witches because she needs to fight them to collect the grief seed and give it to him when it's full). 2. Grant her wish if she makes one, leave if she says no. Come back if she changes her mind. 3. If wish is granted, collect her energy until she dies or becomes a witch. That's the whole of madoka magica from Kyubey's view. All emotions removed. It's our emotions and the character's emotions that make the story so compelling. His actions are scary, but he doesn't remotely understand the emotional weight of what he's doing, he only understands the basic logical outcome. Having said that, the incubators do impressively consider human emotions to the best of their ability; They don't threaten the girls into making a wish. They simply follow the girls with the most potential. Instead of causing a disaster that a girl would desperately wish their way out of, they'll wait for one, like with Mami. It might seem devious to us that they take advantage of desperate situations, but it's because we are emotional. He is simply being logical with no ill intent. Sorry for the novel, lots to explain and consider. 🤍
....VERY NICE POINT OF VIEW,FROM POINT OF "PEOPLE ALWAYS RIGHT" ....WHILE ACTUALLY........NOT QUITE ....SEE,THERE WAS LIKE always A CHOICE......LIKE LEAVE IT be OR TRY TO CHANGE AND HAVE consequences AND HAVE A FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR them .....LIKE.......YOUR MOTHER IS DYING BUT YOU'RE GIVEN A CHANCE TO SAVE HER LIFE.......WILL YOU DO IT AND HAVE CONSEQUENCES OR LET IT BE????????...........OR another stuff???)))) ...YOU'RE SAYING LIKE THERE WOULDVE BEEN SOME CHOICE))))WHILE AT REALITY YOU WOULDVE MAKE THAT CHOICE ANYWAYS REGARDLESS OF THE CONSEQUENCES THAT WILL FOLLOW,ARENT YA???SO of course THAT STUFF IS UNNECESSARY TO KNOW)))) .....OR LIKE YOU'D EVEN DECIDE TO NOT KNOW THE STUFF LIKE AT 1ST PLACE BECAUSE YOU'D DO THIS ANYWAYS SO NOT KNOWING WILL MAKIE THINGS BIT EASIER SO YOU WONT SUFFER OF POSSIBLE REGRETS AS LONG AS YOU WOULDNT WANT THIS BY YOURSELF)))) .......SEE, *_EVERYTHING IS EXPLAINABLE_* ............
"He literally says the energy from the girls is ONE of the best resources." No, it doesn't. "who will ever make that jump in logic to ask?" I would. "he coerces and takes advantage of and manipulates." None of which is inherently evil. "because he has ways to fuel the universe that wouldn't cause others to suffer, but he willingly chooses not to take them," "Source: It came to me in a dream."
My theory is that Kyubey and the other incubators are familiars for an immensely powerful witch operating behind the scenes. Their core function is to gather energy, with a specific preference for energy generated by negative emotions. We see this with the grief seeds where once they absorb a certain amount of negative/curse energy the witch in them revives, but the incubators helpfully dispose of them when they’re almost full, and then in the altered timeline when the incubators are gathering the wraith cubes from the girls. While they’re not immortal they’re replaced easily when destroyed, in the same way a witch can generate new familiars, and they are established to have a hive mind, as if some single intelligence is controlling them. This would fit with Madoka being a deconstruction of Sailor Moon, since that series featured enemies looking to harvest energy from humans in order to supply a much more powerful enemy. Madoka seems to invert this by having Kyubey harvest energy in order to hold off entropy, but that also assumes Kyubey is telling the truth in a series that shows repeatedly he’s willing to massage the truth to make it sound more appealing. Then again he could be right from a certain point of view, perhaps this witch is like Madokami and Akuma Homura, a magical girl who overcame the limits of being a magical girl in order to rewrite the rules of the universe and that by continuing to perform whatever function she does the universe keeps existing. If so I expect consequences to the ending of Rebellion.
Everything is fun and game until the cows starting wearing emotion-powered exoskeletons and emotion-powered railguns and start conquering everything, i.e. when human goverments get their hand on Kyuubei tech. Or probably more relevantly, until one of the cow become a universal constant accelerating entropy because another cow became a universal constant fighting off entropy in a way the first cow didn't like.
It seems to have a gap with humanity like humanity has with other animals which is the most horrific part. How do we fight against or reason against something when we know we can't know all that it knows? If we're just livestock to them, how could we even consider fighting back? Ugh this story is so good 😻🤩

Kyubey did nothing wrong going by the Kyubey standards but going by human standards Kyubey's goals were unspeakable and unallowable. And he was misrepresnting his goals and actions when he was explaining himself. The objectively observed universe does not agree with Kyubey's explanation of it. Against this we only have the assurance that he contends he is right..
Assumedly the advanced alien species that can grant wishes and have some kind of space travel knows why they have to do it more than humans can. Of course what Kyubey does is evil but to them it's totally justified.
@@daledrinnon7307 Then ask yourself, why are humans the highest priority of life? And if your answer amounts to "I don't want to die" or "I'm human, so I don't want other humans to die", then you're objectively no different from Kyubey. As like Kyubey, you're also prioritizing your own kinds' survival over those you have no attachment to. Throughout history our survival instincts have never been stable lands of black and white, but raging oceans of gray. Someone or some group always had to lose in some manner for others to prosper or just to see tomorrow's dawn. Kyubey and their species are the same, just on a cosmic scale. Wait. If she stopped them from turning into witches and that's it, than all that ton of power going into making magical girls wouldn't have any return for the investment. Universe shrivels that much faster, a shorter lifespan for everyone, and they've 0 reason to make ANY more magical girls at all, so would search for another solution.
As neutral as Kyubey seems to call himself, I feel like he's still hiding real emotions or goals. He has a tendency to say things out of tone, whether it by sinister phrasing, or little "peeks" of emotion through his responses. There are elements that contradict himself. He does say he always asks first, but the problem is he's so persistent it can be seen as a problem, one can argue that it's manipulative to a point where he pressures them until they agree. He also throws consent out the window once rebellion hits and starts poking with homura and madoka both just to get the old system back. The tone of his voice combined with specific phrases also hints at a less neutral attitude, as if he gets enjoyment out of it, this is seen especially at the end of Rebellion and with various interactions with Homura in general, as well as the story behind Nagise before she became the sweets witch. Hell, you can even argue that at the end of Rebellion he learned what fear is, even attempting to bail even after his efforts. Honestly Rebellion is the point where his true colors show a whole. Ultimately, as much as the incubators claim that humanities short term suffering is "not their problem", one could easily say the "heat death of the universe" is not humanities problem. It's also made super vague about how real this is, or how the incubators are the universes sole saviors of this. This could easily be another masked truth, but it's left too ambiguous to really trust. While I don't really agree that Kyubey is as indifferent as they claim, I feel like there's truly not enough known about their goals beyond what we are told. The incubators are also very flawed by having a system that overwrites them, especially with how they don't even have contingency planes for what their wishes could do (rewrite the universe, change time to a point they don't even remember what their own "clients" are capable of). TL:DR, Kyubey is like an Army recruiter for magical girls.
Great analysis, he really is a perfect villain, certainly from humanity's perspective. But even as the villain to us, I've never disliked Kyubey and never thought of him as evil. Some of his actions are very scary but he isn't evil. The incubator race are simply completely incompatible with humanity. Incubators are 100% logic and 0% emotion, so it's understandable they can't comprehend emotion or treat those with emotion fairly. It's not their fault. And it's understandable if humanity want them to leave and never come back.
I think its possible but its extremely rare for a boy to have the most emotional energy that the magical girls do (plus brotherhood and all that for guys)
Before rebellion I thought incubators were going to use boys for avoiding madoka role. The point if I remember well girls at least on earth are choosen for becoming witches because education and social expectations. In few words incubator choose girls because they are allowed to be emotional but not handle their emotions. A theory I read long time ago magical boys would work also because male boys are the more who eliminate themselves, making possible they eliminate themselves before turning in witches. In few words souls are pretty much same, but how society raises the gender making them prefer the girls.in another planet would be only magical boys oe planet incubators use both
If they did, I would imagine they would keep the 'dark reflection of Sailor Moon' motif going, and instead of being a noble protector figure who arrives to lend a crucial moment of aid before disappearing, they would be either obsessive stalkers the magical girls are actively looking to avoid, a predator preying on Magical Girls, or some other 'negative' stereotype of an adolescent boy, and potentially being an adversary or unwanted 3rd party rather than a loose ally.
@@KBWanime They don't because boys are less emotional and less likely to fall into the despair state needed to become a witch. With some never doing so. It would be useless for them.
Also, Kyubey states that he doesn't even understand what deception is, but that's not true. When Kyouko asked Kyubey if there's a way to bring Sayaka back, Kyubey just answered that he wouldn't know, but that it might be possible for magical girls. However, after Kyouko's fall, when Homura asked him if there really was no way for Kyouko to save Sayaka, he said "Of course not." And when Homura asked him why he didn't stop Kyouko, he answered that it's better to get her out of the picture
If he doesn't know what deception is then he wouldn't understand that what he did was deceptive. I also think both of his statements are true. Saying, I don't know of any way that's possible and then saying it's not possible in another situation still seems consistent to me.
The wishes have limits. He can only grant certain wishes. Madoka was a little more of an exception because she had so much magical energy. The other girls couldn't do anything like that.
Because of the restrictions on wishes, although yes, he can alter reality to make a wish happen the level of which you can alter is entirely dependent on the girl and how much potential for good they have, pretty much magical girl had the potential to simply wish away entropy
He may have done nothing wrong but he still screwed up by messing with human emotions. And we all know those are very viotile (especially teens) Also who do you guys think is worse Kyuuby or Shockwave (Transformers Prime) both are only logic
Shockwave, because shockwave doesn’t have a pure goal that has benefit to the large scale, well, Kyuuby at least his end goal and his purpose for doing all of this horrible stuff is a net positive for the universe
Even if you asked he'd just gaslight you or leave important details out. An example of this is iroha sister and friends from magica records asked him all the important questions and he still left out what the consequences were. So really this is just victim blaming. They do undestand those emotions on a smart and logical way but are incapable of feeling them
I think homura ended up using her Power to make them feel emotions After she bêcome a demon

From the perspective of the entire Earth the cat needs to he stopped.
They may not be evil but their goals are completely different from ours and it's very clear that they do not care what happens to humans or Earth as evident from this slightly paraphrased Quote from kuybei "I estimate it will no more than 10 days for her to destroy the entire planet.
Being evil requires a conscious choice to hurt just because.
And again, we are talking about the literal death of the universe. More efficient is reasonable.
@Nparalelo No. Moral relativism is itself an evil.
@@OokamiKuro39Ch That's why he asks Middle School kids and not you >.>
It's not Personal Benefit, Kyuube is just fulfilling their job of keeping the Universe Going, if the Universe doesn't keep going people die anyways, so is it the Many or the Few who you want to save here?
It's due to their emotional nature and the greater likelihood they will 'witch out'.
Not sure if it's in the Manga, but in the Anime Kyuube mentions that giving boys a wish are very rare, as their emotional states aren't as easily as manipulated as girls are and they rarely become witches as a result.

Well in the movie rebellion he gets to experience fear as well lol
Remember, being meguka is suffering
All that Kyubey knows is:
....VERY NICE POINT OF VIEW,FROM POINT OF "PEOPLE ALWAYS RIGHT"
....WHILE ACTUALLY........NOT QUITE
....SEE,THERE WAS LIKE always A CHOICE......LIKE LEAVE IT be OR TRY TO CHANGE AND HAVE consequences AND HAVE A FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR them
.....LIKE.......YOUR MOTHER IS DYING BUT YOU'RE GIVEN A CHANCE TO SAVE HER LIFE.......WILL YOU DO IT AND HAVE CONSEQUENCES OR LET IT BE????????...........OR another stuff???))))
...YOU'RE SAYING LIKE THERE WOULDVE BEEN SOME CHOICE))))WHILE AT REALITY YOU WOULDVE MAKE THAT CHOICE ANYWAYS REGARDLESS OF THE CONSEQUENCES THAT WILL FOLLOW,ARENT YA???SO of course THAT STUFF IS UNNECESSARY TO KNOW))))
.....OR LIKE YOU'D EVEN DECIDE TO NOT KNOW THE STUFF LIKE AT 1ST PLACE BECAUSE YOU'D DO THIS ANYWAYS SO NOT KNOWING WILL MAKIE THINGS BIT EASIER SO YOU WONT SUFFER OF POSSIBLE REGRETS AS LONG AS YOU WOULDNT WANT THIS BY YOURSELF))))

Kyuube is my favorite character right behind Homura.
Good picks! Homura barely beats out Kyubey for me.
true he was quite well writen that his flaw is just the fact that life suck
Ugh this story is so good 😻🤩
I actually love Twist Villains and i don't understand when Antagonists are hated
Sometimes the reason is (he betrayed/killed/something else this character!!!)
Generally I don't like twist villains because instead of making an interesting character, they rely on the shock of the twist to make the character work. They aren't all like this, but I'd say most are.
Wow, how many yrs has it been since I wat hed the anime. Thx for reminding me how good the story was.
It's such a good show! It's really good on a second watch too!
@@KBWanime Means nothing, we can't trust anything Kyubey says and his results are he is preying on humans. It cannot be justified.
It's them or a small number of humans from what we've been shown. Utilitarianism is flawed, not because it's "wrong", but because no individual could ever truly comprehend the many.
Kyubey can be defeated, however another will that it's place.
There is a finite amount of them, is just that by killing Kyubey, the only thing one can achieve is saving the girls while condemning the universe future.
The universe is meant to be destroyed and replaced with a better one. You should fear those that try to prevent it in the first place.

At this point I think kyuube is the singularity who connects Madoka Magica with Made in Abyss in ways like a parallel twisted universe of a future dystopian
Totally agree
Wait. If she stopped them from turning into witches and that's it, than all that ton of power going into making magical girls wouldn't have any return for the investment. Universe shrivels that much faster, a shorter lifespan for everyone, and they've 0 reason to make ANY more magical girls at all, so would search for another solution.
Magical girls now fight a different monster that appeared after Madoka rewrote the rules of the universe and defeating those creates energy.
That's actually true if you look at it objectively... No I choose to view all sides and then judge.

Heat death of the universe. That’s a promise from God that must be fulfilled. For he hates the state of it all.
@justice8718 The issue is the incubators aren't gods, the only god here is Madoka overwriting them.
@@RavenVI Since when is God in need of resources?
@justice8718 Realistically, never. Though I don't get what point you're saying, though.
Thanks! He really is an awesome character. Just the concept around his existence is so incredible!
I would just wish that boys shared the same burden of becoming magical boys and that Kyubey would seek out boys as well.
Maybe there is a different alien group that makes magical boys XD
I think its possible but its extremely rare for a boy to have the most emotional energy that the magical girls do (plus brotherhood and all that for guys)
Before rebellion I thought incubators were going to use boys for avoiding madoka role. The point if I remember well girls at least on earth are choosen for becoming witches because education and social expectations. In few words incubator choose girls because they are allowed to be emotional but not handle their emotions. A theory I read long time ago magical boys would work also because male boys are the more who eliminate themselves, making possible they eliminate themselves before turning in witches. In few words souls are pretty much same, but how society raises the gender making them prefer the girls.in another planet would be only magical boys oe planet incubators use both
When entering puberty, teenage boys actually suffer from a big drop in empathy due to the testosterone.
They simply wouldn't be good energy sources.
Imagine if he discovered how to make magical boys
From certain conversations in the series, I think he could, he just doesn't want to.

If Kyuby is rigth, then why he didn't just make someone wish for the complete energy quote?
The wishes have limits. He can only grant certain wishes. Madoka was a little more of an exception because she had so much magical energy. The other girls couldn't do anything like that.
Because of the restrictions on wishes, although yes, he can alter reality to make a wish happen the level of which you can alter is entirely dependent on the girl and how much potential for good they have, pretty much magical girl had the potential to simply wish away entropy

Not for being cute
He just gave them what they wanted, and they could've asked if there would be consequences
Exactly! Unfortunately that's how most of life works. You don't always have someone to warn you of consequences.
Even if you asked he'd just gaslight you or leave important details out. An example of this is iroha sister and friends from magica records asked him all the important questions and he still left out what the consequences were. So really this is just victim blaming. Remember his victims are children and teens.
@@inavderhexo dis they ask about the repercussions and the effect it'll directly have on their lifespan? And at the end of the day, they still bought what some magical talking cat sized monster was selling. Kids or not, that's something innately uncanny and highly suspicious. Thing is, his deception work by telling them that yes, of course there's a downside to the whole system. You have to fight witches for the rest of your lives! That's hard! And dangerous!
And even if you ask the right questions, doesn't matter! He still has some answers ready that are technically true (such as "oh, witches are born from cursed spirits") while leaving out the actual relevant details. - and will only start telling the full story when you're already *in* the system and knowing that will bring you maximum despair (thus hastening your demise).
Finally, to sweeten the deal, he can show you a magical girl like Mami as a front - a nice, heroic girl who's been at it for a while, who can attest that the wish is totally legit and urges you to think things through so you don't have regrets, and can show you the ropes if you decide to join in.
